I’ve been collecting Tyranids for about a year and a half now, and i have never played a game before, and do not own any dice. Is there a margin to go off of for how many dice I should buy?

I know Warhammer for two years now, and I plan on starting the hobbie in October, because I will come back from a dream trip and I honestly want to start painting Tyranids, any tips on how to paint them? Best prime Collor or some fun fact about the minis that I should know before starting this new path?
(Photo from Pinterest because I find it beautiful and get attention!)

ART CREDIT/SOURCE: Codex: Tyranids (6th Edition)

BEST: Another unit of dedicated infantry killers. They have Stealth and project a Stealth aura for all allies within 6" (as of the 2026 July balance dataslate). Can ignore terrain and obstructions with flight.
WORST: Asides from Anti-Infantry 2+, Toxic Lashes stats are largely weaksauce against anything heavier than light infantry. 4+ armor save and no Invuln save make them rather fragile even with Stealth. Slow movement speed. Also competes with other dedicated infantry killers who can arguably do the job better (such as Toxicrenes and Haruspexes).

RECOMMENDED DETACHMENT(S): Invasion Fleet, Assimilation Swarm (so that nearby Harvester units can heal them), Synaptic Nexus (so that Synapse range can buff them further), Subterranean Assault (for tunneling deep strike)

Your thoughts about this Best & Worst? What changes (if any) do you hope to see for this model & datasheet for a future 11th edition codex?

It took me two years to finally paint them. I changed the color scheme a little bit and had to go all over them three times. But now they are based, finished and ready to go!
Sadly their Combat Patrol was dropped by GW App and now I have to paint the Vardenghast Swarm😓 Hope it’s still viable in two years.
But I am very happy with the stealthy nids😊

I love me some horseco...uh 'Strangleweb' yeah that's what its called.
The pistols are also pretty cool.
The shardlauncher I think looks better on the Barbgaunts.

130 pts (+15) is a crazy price point for the neurotyrant, and the zoans already bounce very often. Is this the end of the zoan brick? Total cost now sits at 330 for a unit that dies to small arms fire and inconsistent damage profile. On average, on a +2sv target, this unit does around 7 damage per activation.

Hey Guys,
I just got into 40k and bought the 10th Edition starter box last year. I have only played the scenarios in that box so far and now I wanna upgrade my Nids Army to 1000 points. I bought the Armageddon Box so I sit on roughly 1300 points of mixed Space Marines and I want a small collection of Tyranids so play against them with my friends. I won't play in our LGS and vs other players for now, just some trial and error games at home. Picture is what I have at home right now.
Now finally my question. What other models would you suggest buying? I really don't need to have a good Meta army, just an allround one. So far I bought the Horrors of the Hive and a Winged Hive Tyrant because they look fucking cool. Are there any must have units? Do I need that anti tank artilly bug thing or gargoyles? Would be cool if you could give me some suggestions or maybe even just some units to avoid. I love big models so I thought about getting a norn emissary. I can spend around 100€.
Sorry for the wall of text and thanks in advance!

I’ve been painting my army for a year and I’m about ready to start playing but I was curious what items or accessories does everyone recommend. Obviously there’s dice and measuring tape, but are there any other items that people recommend that are either necessary or make the gameplay easier. Some things I was thinking are those modular trays for moving armies? Any wound counter? Perhaps a specific type of notebook that keeps track of unit stats or anything like that. Thanks

- dont Prime in Grey seer when you want to use pallid wych flesh. But later i will do a wash with Seraphim sepia

Bought on Saturday, varnished on Wednesday using my roughly 1 hour of free time a day! (Im a dad with kids and other stupid responsibilities)
I’m stoked with it. My main painting goal is just getting it done and on the table, and now I’ve got my leviathan method dialled in it’s real easy to roll out 🫡

Just when I felt that melee warriors were being kind of cool with the detachment and all, they do this, I really do feel like the rules were not op enough to deserve a change like this.Im not smart enough to call this a nerf but it does feel like it.

I love the Tyranids as a concept. They are probably one of the most fascinating factions in 40k because they are basically a galaxy-spanning superorganism, constantly evolving, adapting to new environments and creating whatever organisms they need to consume a world.
But I feel like there is a huge disconnect between what Tyranids are supposed to be in the lore and what we actually see most of the time.
We keep seeing the same classic bioforms, gaunts, Tyranid Warriors, Genestealers, Hive Tyrants, Carnifexes, Neurothropes, etc. And most of the time, the only differences are the weapons they carry, their size, or the color scheme of their Hive Fleet. I understand why this exists from a tabletop perspective, since armies need recognizable units and models need to be produced, but outside of that, especially in artwork and stories, I feel like we rarely see the truly alien and almost limitless adaptability that makes Tyranids so interesting.
I would love to see Tyranid organisms that are completely specialized for different environments, like massive aquatic creatures hunting in the oceans of consumed planets, Tyranid lifeforms drifting through space and attacking ships directly, organisms adapted to gas giants that absorb their atmosphere and use it as a resource, Tyranid "plants" spreading across worlds or space and harvesting energy from stars through photosynthesis or radiation, microscopic Tyranid bacteria, parasites, fungal networks and countless other forms of life.
The terrifying thing about the Tyranids shouldn't only be that they have bigger monsters than everyone else. It should be that they are an alien ecosystem capable of creating any possible form of life needed for survival.
Instead, they often feel like we are only seeing different versions of the same evolutionary path, basically variations of gaunts that go bigger, more armored and more specialized, rather than an entire alien biosphere that has evolved over millions of worlds. All of them have the same claws, the same face and teeth etc...
Maybe I'm wrong and there are examples I haven't seen, but I really wish we got more of that side of the Tyranids, the truly weird, unpredictable and almost incomprehensible biological horror aspect of them.
