Announcement: We've made a Discord + Future Plans

Hello /r/TunbridgeWells members!

We're please to announce we'll be making an active effort to grow this subreddit, and engage with the community in an effort to bring Tunbridge Wells together online, and in real life.

To start, we've created a Discord:

https://discord.gg/WV2WcWQMCn

The reason we've done this is to create a community where members can chat more directly with eachother, easily coordinate and plan events, amongst other things.

More plans are on the way, slow and steady steps to begin with.

Schools

Hello! We are a Spanish family and our 14-year-old daughter, Manuela, is coming to Tunbridge Wells for one term. We are trying to decide between Kent College Pembury and Beechwood School. We'd really appreciate hearing from parents or students with experience of either school. We are especially interested in the atmosphere, pastoral care, support for international students, and how welcoming the schools are. Thank you very much!

Question For anyone looking for an architect in Tunbridge Wells — a bit of guidance

Thumbnail alexbryla.com

I’m currently working with a client on a house extension in Tunbridge Wells, and it got me thinking about how many people here run into the same issues.

After 15 years as an architectural designer, I keep seeing the same patterns — dark kitchens, awkward layouts, and rooms that could be great with a bit of thought.

What’s the one thing in your home you wish you could fix or redesign? Flow, light, storage, or maybe a room that just makes no sense?

Always interested to hear what others are dealing with, and happy to share ideas if it helps.

If you want to see some of my past projects, I’ve got a few examples at alexbryla.com

Lost Car Key

Hi there all, I’m sat on a bench under a tree just over from forum (Sainsbury’s side in front of the parking road) and I’ve discovered someone’s car key.
Going to wait 10-15 and if no one comes, I’m going to put it safely at The Cake Shed, on The Pantiles to be collected, failing that I’ll take it to the police station when I’m not at work.

To come collect it, just pop in and quote the car make that’s on the key, avoiding putting that on here in case someone random turns up! I’ll wait a week or so before giving in to the police, please spread the word! I hope someone sees this that knows the person who lost it!!

Question Commuting

Hi all,

I am thinking of moving to Tunbridge Wells from central London as I just can't take the intensity here any more. I'd need to keep my job - it is not well paid - but I am not a specialist in any particular area, I work in administration in universities and also in academic publishing, and I think it highly unlikely I would find a job. The pay cut would also be too much for me to live on compared to London salaries.

I'd like to now what y'all think about the potential of commuting to London from Tunbridge Wells once a week. I can currently get away with going in once (though must bear in mind that they could turn round and be more strict on enforcing 2) and can avoid peak times, travelling after 9am, and back at around 4pmish.

My planned route was Tunbridge W - London Bridge, change on to Thameslink and get off at City Thameslink, then a 40ish minute walk. I prefer the walk, but could also have gone originally to Charing Cross then only a 10 min walk.

I know it's a personal choice question as to whether this commute is too long for me (1 hr 40-2hr), but I'd still like any thoughts on this journey and what it is like. Seats available on trains? Would the interchange at LB be delayed and I'd miss it every time?

Any experience from you would be great please!

I feel like the pay-off for I think a better quality of life in TB might be worth it. It's a place I am fond of for various reasons, closer to my family, and property is also cheaper for a lot more.

Thank you :)

Question Sunday Pub normal menu

Does anyone know any good pubs in the surrounding areas to Tunbridge wells that do a normal Sunday menu alongside the roasts?

The family are visiting and we need a family friendly place but we aren't really a roast dinner family.

Puppy training

Hello, can anyone recommend a puppy trainer or puppy classes near the town centre. I don't have a car but could get to Calverley Park/Dunorlan/Grosvenor and Hilbert relatively easily. My new puppy (M, 11 weeks, small breed) is training well with me but could do with some additional advice and help, especially with recall when there are distractions. Feels like other puppies being distracting is going to be the best place to learn and practice!

Question Irish/Folk session in Tunbridge Wells

Someone on this sub has already posted about this, but I would like to start one or find others who play session. I'm in my mid teens and play the Tin Whistle and I'm thinking of taking up the flute. If anyone would be interested in this, just let me know!
