We've had an influx lately of low effort AI art of watches (why?) and I'm cutting it off here. Any posts of AI slop will get you banned on the first offense.

Joined the Tudor family with this Black Bay 41mm

I picked up this Black Bay (41mm) with the five link bracelet and burgundy bezel last weekend and it's been on my wrist every day since. I went from having very little interest in the Tudor brand to recently really appreciating how they have differentiated themselves from Rolex. I think it's a great value and compliments my other watches nicely.

I loved that I was able to walk in and buy it same day. The T-fit clasp is really smooth too.

Looking for information

Hello all

I am hoping to get some information about this watch. It was gifted to me from my dad - I would love to know a bit more about its history and the physical watch itself.

The serial number is 568XXX and as far as I can tell that means the case at the very least, is from 1966 (as long as the watch is genuine). I am not able to find images from the same year that have similar looking dials/hands, and would also expect more yellowing on the dial itself if it is original.

Is it likely that the dial/hands have been replaced over the years?

The only information I have is that my dad got the watch from a military friend some time in the early 90s, and that it sat virtually unused for about 20 years.

I am not very knowledgeable about watches myself, so any information, or links to information resources would be greatly appreciated!

Questions from a new collector

I am new to the watch collecting hobby and after spending a lot of time looking at watches online I have really fallen in love with a lot of the watches the Tudor puts out and I would really like for one of their watches to be my first major watch”major” watch purchase. I have narrowed it down to either a black bay (most likely one of the GMT versions as I like to travel and that seems like a nice functionality to have) or a pelagos however I wanted to be sure I am picking the right one for me before spending that amount of money. One of my main questions is other than the obvious cosmetic and size changes are there any major differences that I should know about between the different black bay lines and what key things should I be on the lookout for when making my first big purchase to avoid any regrets.

I currently have a Hamilton Murph 42mm and the new Spinnaker dolphin project which is a 40mm. The Murph (in my opinion) fits perfectly on my ~7in wrist but the spinnaker feels almost comically small in comparison even though it should be near to the same size based on the specs. Because of this I am concerned that some of the models that only come in 39mm may not be an option for me because of the size or do the watches feel bigger on the wrist than the measurements suggest, all the pictures of them I have seen on here look like they fit very well on most people’s wrists.

I am planning on visiting the Atlanta Tudor boutique to be sure that I like the look and feel of whatever watch I choose prior to purchasing it however I would like to have a game plan and be better informed about my options prior to going. Any insights/advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Tested out a new gear set up, this one allows me to get most of the dial in focus without having to learn any tricks like focus stacking. Lol

Have a good night ya'll!

Absolutely loving the color and feel of this bad boy. Picture taken on a hike in the Dolomites, timing the hike with the bezel!

Black Bay 58 vs 41

Debating on a new watch. Have not been able to find the 41 on 5 link to try on. The 58 fit great but not in love with the gilt although did look a lot better in person than I expected. I did try on a 3 link 41 but was not as comfortable (no pic). Definitely prefer the look of the 41 in regards to colors. I have found a 5 link 41 to order. I also looked at the chrono but not really what I’m looking for right now as much as I do love the watch. Anyone have both the 41 and 58 that could offer an opinion on the fit comparing I would appreciate it. Have right around a 7” wrist.

For anybody wondering, this is how the new Royal 36 fits my 7.3 inch/18.5 cm wrist. Looks surprisingly good on a larger wrist, and it would be my size choice for this piece.

Seconds per day

I noticed my 54 was losing about a second per day. I decided to get the timegrapher out and run it in multiple positions. Typically I keep my watch in a case at night. The case has the watch sitting at a 45° angle. On the timegrapher at that angle it showed a little slow around -1/-2spd. I put the watch flat in the case and the past few days 0 spd. Just a little PSA for anyone tracking their time. It’s not always the movement it can be simply the angle.

Scratches on BB58 Sapphire - options?

Post image

So I bought this BB58 Blue pre owned from a shop.

Watch has been fantastic and used it for over a month now. Was in great condition when I got it.

However noticed the other day that it has several scratches on the sapphire crystal in several different locations (mainly nearly the 10 and 5’o clock areas). The scratches are only really noticeable in indoor lighting and when viewed from certain angles. In outdoor natural settings you can’t see them at all.

I personally can’t remember me hitting the crystal at any time of wearing the watch to remember it causing scratches. I’ve got many other sapphire crystal watches which I’ve worn for years now and are completely scratch free (have tried to view them for scratches once I saw these).

Is there a way to get these scratches out? Most of them seem quite light hairline scratches but they are annoying me now. And do you think it’s worth taking the watch back to where I got it from and ask them? They have a years warranty but not sure how I’d prove it wasn’t caused by me as I didn’t particularly inspect too deeply for scratches on sapphire when I got it. I’ve attached a picture of probably the most prominent scratch. The others are just hairline scratches. I’ve tried scrubbing the crystal with some dish soap and toothbrush but that didn’t make a difference.

How much crown play/wobble is normal? (1926)

Post image

For all my Tudor owners and more specifically 1926 owners, when the crow is unscrewed into the neutral, winding position, are you able to “wiggle” or “wobble” the crown back and forth? Not like a lot but enough it’s noticeable? I’m assuming it’s due to the way the case tube/stem assembly is designed for the screw down function to actually work. The reason I ask, my Longines is ROCK solid with no play, but my Seikos do have a minor mount of play. My new Tudor 1926 seems to have the most but I know it’s not apples to apples. I would love to hear from you guys or even see some examples if you’re willing to share. To be clear this is still the best feeling screw down crown on a watch I own and there is no play when the crow is screwed down so I just want to make sure my stem isn’t failing where it connects to the crown.

Surprise in Santorini!

Post image

Currently on vacation in Santorini and while walking around today decided to take a look at the watch stores. Didn’t really see anything but my last stop was Tudor as it was farthest from my hotel. When I walked in the associate Dimitris started telling me about Tudor and once I let him know I own a BB GMT and wanted either the pink or blue flamingo he let me know they only had the white chrono. After I let him know I would only really be in market for a Blue or Pink Flamingo he let me know that they didn’t have any in stock. It was slow so he asked me about my trip and my collection and after showing him pictures of my collection and mentioning my wedding watch he said “I have a surprise for you”. He brought out this beautiful Blue Flamingo and told me if I bought my fiancée a pair of earrings from the jewelry store he would be able to let me have it as a walk in. While I hate this practice I appreciated his honesty and jumped on the deal especially with getting VAT being from the States. All in all extremely happy and feel very lucky that I apparently have a good vibe and friendly aura per Dimitris to get this piece haha. Anyway sorry for the long story but just couldn’t want to share my good fortune with y’all!
