Tonight, the Troy Public Library and Board of Trustees will host a candidate information session for community members interested in running for the Board. The session will include a presentation on the requirements for potential candidates, the ongoing needs of the library and the board, and a Q&A.

The session will be recorded and posted afterward in case you're unable to attend but may be interested in running.

There are three available trustee seats — two carry full, three-year terms and one carries a one-year term. All terms will commence on November 10, 2026.

The public election will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in conjunction with the library’s budget vote.  

Trustees must meet the following minimum qualifications to run:

• At least 18 years old
• US citizen
• Resident of the City of Troy and registered to vote in the City of Troy
• Not otherwise disqualified from voting under Election Law 5-106 Actions
• Collect a minimum of 25 signatures on a Nominating Petition from qualified residents/voters of the City of Troy.
• Submit petitions no later than Friday, August 21st at 5 PM to either library location.

Interested Troy residents may pick up their petitions at the information session or either library location after July 22nd. Candidates may then begin collecting at least 25 signatures from Troy residents to run for the open trustee Board seats.

Hey, I had a parking garage permit that I had to let lapse for a couple months and now the price is $100/mo. When did that happen?

Would you pay $23.33 for this? Red Oak Farm CSA is a scam. He started 2 weeks late, missed a week, and this is what we get. No apologies, no explanations, nothing. If you look for a CSA for 2027 avoid this farm at all costs. 2 cucumbers, 2 zucchini , 5 green onions, sprigs of mint, some peas, and some mushrooms. It’s been like this all season.

Downtown Troy BID Tourism & Marketing-The Marketing and Tourism Committee of the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District will hold a meeting at 9:00 AM at the BID Office (102 3rd St.) No agenda has been provided for this meeting, though draft minutes of the May meeting may provide some insight to topics of discussion.

Unlike City Council, the IDA, the LDC, the CRC, the Troy School District, the Lansingburgh School District, the Troy Library, or the Land Bank, the Downtown Troy BID neither simulcasts nor records their meetings, so this meeting is in-person only.

Troy Library- The Board of the Troy Library will be holding two meetings at the Lansingburgh Branch (27 114th St.)

At 5:30, the Facilities and Physical Infrastructure Committee will hold its monthly meeting, for which no agenda has been published as of this writing. While there is a listing on the board web page for a June meeting, neither an agenda nor minutes were posted.

Agendas and minutes, when posted, as well as Zoom links for remote participation, can be found here when available.

At 7 pm, the board will host an information session for those interested in running for one of three open trustee seats in the September election, when the library’s proposed budget will also come before voters. While attendance is not necessary to petition for a seat, there may be valuable insight into the process for those considering a run.

Troy Planning Board-Troy’s Planning Board will hold their monthly meeting at 6 pm at Troy City Hall, 433 River St, 5th Floor. Among the proposals before the board is the Lansingburgh Gateway Project, a proposed mixed-use workforce housing development at the site of the former Price Chopper in Lansingburgh, which was met with something less than enthusiasm from both the board and members of the public when introduced at the June Planning Board meeting.

In response to the criticism, the development team has, without apparent update to the problematic design elements, adjusted the renderings (pictured above), showing improved visuals on the facades and trees along the street impeding views of both the enormous parking lots and the river in the background.

Updated plans for the Lansingburgh Gateway, as well as other projects under consideration, can be viewed on the agenda, which also contains links for remote access and an email address to provide comment on projects under consideration.

City Council is chock-a-block with meetings starting at 5:15, when the first public hearing for Local Law #4, amending the City Charter to align the mayor’s ability to declare an emergency with state guidelines is scheduled to take place. If you would like to address the Council on this issue but cannot make the 5:15 hearing, don’t worry, there is a second scheduled hearing at 5:30, for your convenience. (A third hearing will take place on August 6.)

The Science and Technology Committee will meet at 5:45 with two items on the agenda. The first, an update on progress in the City’s review of zoning regulations and fire safety risks of battery energy storage systems (BESS), was part of the agreement reached with the Mantello administration as part of the passage of Ordinance #3, a six-month moratorium on the planning or construction of such facilities within city limits passed in February. The second, an update from the administration on the City web page’s ADA accessibility, was originally to take place on May 21, though Troy’s ADA coordinator, Alex Horton, was not made available at that time. The current deadline for compliance is April 2027.

The Finance Committee’s monthly meeting follows at 6 pm. No agenda has been published as of this time, though it is expected that the mayor will be appointing a new member to the board of the Troy Local Development Corporation, which will function as the pass-through to transfer the One Monument Square property to the preferred development team led by the Luizzi Companies and Velan Studios.

City Council meetings take place at City Hall, 433 River St. Agendas, remote access links, and livestreams can all be accessed in the Notices Page of the City Council Agenda Center.

Good Morning! Are there any cat foster organizations local to Troy?

Looking for a temporary foster for a very sweet 6-7 year old rag doll cat. He is best suited in a home without other pets but he’s great with kids. We are expecting twins and have quickly run out of space in our apt. We are in the process of buying a home, and once we are settled we will take him back. He’s fixed, very loving and we would provided the food and liter while he’s taken care of.

This morning I had the pleasure of ‘literally’ running into a very large group of road bicyclists heading south down the Empire State Trail from Peebles Island. They were riding at least 2-3 across on the sidewalk where I, and MANY others, regularly walk our dogs. Rather than move into single file, or ride in the road (which had zero cars on it the entire time I was out there) they decided to go full speed ride directly at me and my pup and just ring the little bells instead of even saying anything. This continued my entire 30 minute walk, with multiple waves of bikers; at least a couple hundred total. I was under the impression that they should be riding in the street. Does anyone know who organizes this event?

I currently have both a PF Black Card and an ABC membership. I like PF for the cardio machines, tanning, and the separate abs/stretching area. I like ABC because of the overall layout and some of the machines.

Lately I’ve been thinking about canceling both and just getting the $40 VENT membership instead. All three gyms are within a few minutes of me, but VENT seems a lot cleaner and newer than ABC, and I feel like I might enjoy the atmosphere more. At the same time, I’ve been going to ABC for a while, so I’m comfortable there and a little hesitant to switch.

For those who go to VENT in Latham or have been members of both, what are the biggest pros and cons? Is it worth making the switch? I’d love to hear your experiences, especially if you’ve gone to both ABC and VENT. I’ve seen mixed opinions, so I’m curious what the consensus is
