Community Rule Update: AI-Generated Transcriptions Are No Longer Allowed

Hello everyone,

We want to let you know about an important change to our rule regarding AI use in r/Transcription .

What the rule used to allow:

Previously, our rules permitted the use of AI or OCR tools as long as the user disclosed their use and manually reviewed and corrected the results before posting. This was intended to allow AI as a supporting tool, not a replacement for human transcription.

What is changing:

Effective immediately, AI-generated transcriptions are no longer allowed in any form. This includes: OCR output, Handwriting recognition software, Generative AI produced transcriptions, or any other AI assisted transcriptions based primarily on machine output.

Why the change?

We feel that our community has grown to a point where we no longer need the limited assistance AI transcriptions may have once provided. r/Transcription now has a strong base of knowledgeable members who consistently offer fast, accurate, and genuinely human interpretations of hard to read text.

Any transcriptions that are clearly AI will be removed, and we encourage users to report any transcriptions that you suspect is AI.

Thank you.

- Mod Team.

Hi! I got this cool artwork at a flea/antique market in Switzerland. It looks like white acrylic paint applied on white paper in a very interesting way. The signature is only visible under black light, and it's very hard for me to tell for sure what it says. I love it a lot and would like to know more about it. Please help me to solve the mistary :)

I can make sense of most, but need help with the first and third word in line 5. the First should be a Family name (Grüttal maybe?), the second one a profession.

The entire text says:
Der arbeitsame Junggesell
Wentzel deß Jacob Schreijer Häuß
lers ehelich Sohn Gilschwitz
XXXX Magdalena deß Valentin
Grüttal(?) geweste GXXXXXXXXX
Ehrliche Tochter in Gilschwitz

I can't make out one word in this note written in the year of the USA's bicentennial, to be read in the year of the USA's tricentennial. I have included the entirety of the note in case the other letters help you decipher the single word.

Transcribed✔️ Marriage Register entry from 1802

I need help with this entry documenting the marriage of Jakob Adamczik and Catharina. Both of them were from a town called Gilschwitz (the name appears both under his and under her name). I‘m assuming the entry also states his profession, underneath his name, and possibly Catharinas Maiden name (des Jakob Sonnek), but I am not sure about either.

this came across my desk today and I was trying to figure out what unit of measure the prescriber was using. it was either 4 pre-filled pens or 4 ml. lucky for me I was able to pass this particular deciphering on to someone else. if it hadn't been past office hours I would have just called the doctor.

I found this document among my grandfather's belongings, but I have no idea what it is or what it says. It appears to be an old handwritten document in Portuguese, and I'm having a hard time deciphering the handwriting.

I'm currently researching my family's history and trying to build my family tree, so I'd really appreciate any help transcribing it. If anyone can also explain what kind of document this is and whether it contains any relevant genealogical information, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you in advance for your time and help!

Não sei se há brasileiros ou outros lusófonos neste grupo, se puderem ajudar seria ótimo. Obrigado!

English Transcription Request Help with World War I named box

Hello,

I bought this WWI US victory medal and Captain bars for $10 this weekend.

It came in a box with a name inside.

I am trying to research it and I believe the name is Jean Elizabeth Ohannesion but I have found nothing on the name. I’m not sure if I’m reading the last name correct if anyone can help me verify that.

I believe it may have belonged to the daughter or wife of the soldier.

Any help on deciphering the name is appreciated!

I think it is 1800s or early 1900s cursive, but I'm not sure what the language is though, it could just be ill-formed English. I enhanced the images because the writing was rather faint.

The name would likely be 17th century European. I was told it could be a partial abbreviation and anything from French, Latin, English, Flemish Dutch, Russian, German..... I have no clue.

English Transcription Request What surname is this from an 1836 deed?

Post image
18 Upvotes

These are all pictures of the same name from the same document. It’s a deed from 1836 and this is the seller’s name, which appears repeatedly.

We thought the name of the seller here was clear but when we cross reference it in the deed book we don’t see his purchase and who sold it to him. The deed books goes from the 1600s to 1900s so it is definitely in there.

We’re researching the history of our home and are currently tracing back the ownership. Our town was founded in 1664 and no one knows when our house was built.
