If you live in Toronto Centre, this is the candidate NOT to vote for if you want a safe cycling network.

He just released his campaign launch video (which I screen recorded as I don't want him to get engagement).

And man it feels so scripted, so uninspiring, and reminds me of those video projects I was forced to make back in high school.

Don't forget the Toronto Sun and National Post (american owned btw) share the same views as Tate.

TL:DR: If you love cycling, RapidTO lanes, and pedestrianized streets, keep Tate out of City Hall!

Just discovered that Cody MacRae is running in Etobicoke-Lakeshore against Amber Morley. Not a big surprise that the front guy for the "Balance [sic] on Bloor" anti-bike lane group, and supporter of the lawsuit against her and the City is trying to defeat her.

Putting him on Council would be a huge blow to the city. I notice that Ted Opitz is also running. He was Conservative MP for Etobicoke Centre 2011-15 (and failed candidate last year). Haven't found any bike info about him, but given his previous riding, wouldn't be surprised if he's anti.

Has anyone looked or started looking into possible bikepacking routes along future stops on the Northlander Train? As someone who doesn't really like driving at all, I am actually pretty excited to start seeing what bikepacking routes emerge from this train service. Cant wait to start moving around Kamoot curser to see what sort of loops could be made.

As the title says, am considering getting a hitch mount bike rack for my car. I understand that when I am carrying bikes on it, it will obscure my rear licence place, and that this is illegal. But as we all know, there are plenty of laws broken on the roads of our city that our police force appear to turn a blind eye to. And I see lots of cars around with rear-mounted bike racks. Has anyone ever been busted by the cops over this? If the risk it significant, should I look into getting a bike rack with a space where I can mount a supplementary licence place on it (i.e. so the plate is not illegally obscured)?

Hi all, making the trip from NF to Toronto this Sunday (would do the whole route from buffalo, but Buffalo to NF is kinda boring at this point). Anything to specifically check out while I’m there? probably arriving early afternoon after traipsing through Ontario all day!

ETA: going to try and hit the downtown Fix Coffee and make our way to Bikes on Wheels in kensington market, but that’s the extent of our plans.

Hello all!

Im planning to get my partner a bike for his birthday, Ive done a little bit of research on bikes already but Ive read that bikes are pretty personal, and that it’s better to take him to a shop and let him choose one himself

He used to have a mountain bike, but I know he mentioned cycling bike (thin wheels??) and that it’s expensive.

I didnt want to ask too many questions and make the surprise obvious

My budget is around $1000 with tax and all and ideally somewhere in North York, but downtown is fine too. Any bike shop recommendations?

Also, how does it usually work if we buy the bike on the same day? We have a sedan, so I’m not sure if we’d be able to take the bike home with us or if we’d need to arrange delivery or bike rack

She had her bike stolen outside of Woodbine Station on Sunday. It’s a well-loved commuter bike, nothing flashy (details in her original Facebook post in the image). I’ve been watching Craigslist but haven’t seen anything yet. If you have any advice on how to find it or see it listed anywhere, let me know!

This happened last evening at twilight. Putting this out there for comments and insights. I'm riding here eastward on the MGT and come around a sweeping corner to confront head-on a rent-a-cop pair driving westward in the middle of the MUP, no lights or hazards.

I confronted the driver; the brief exchange--I was pissed--went something like this:

Me: This trail is not for cars, get off it.
Garda: We're just checking on something.
Me: Doesn't matter, get off the trail.
Garda: We've been hired to check on some homeless encampments (I was dubious)
Me: You're private security and this is not private property. You have zero jurisdiction.
Garda: We're trying to keep you safe (WTF, duh)
Me: How? By crashing into me?!

After which, I rode on. It was a rough day and the exchange was going no where. I assume he cont'd westward to exit at Regatta Road but there are restrictive gates there. I could see Unwin, the street proper paralleling the MUP, through the foliage, it was 10 meters away. The MGT bridge Mr Garda drove across to keep the world safe from encampments is on the left. (Context: like most places in TO, there are a few homeless amongst the greenery).

Anyone else encounter such stooges? What would be the best way to deal with this?

A really cool way to actually see how much progress has been made on increasing cycle trips in Toronto.

1998 Trek 820 stolen from bike pole at College and Robert ~July 20th later in the day. Not worth a lot but it works well, I put some time into it, and its recognizable. Please reach out if you see it around anywhere. Red/Orange, taped seat, milk crate, red and black brake lines.

Not surprising considering anti-bike IntegrityTO wants her to win.

But more reason to campaign against her if you live in this ward.

Didn’t she learned about Christine Hogarth’s fate? The incumbent MPP who was the most antibike and lost her seat as a result?

If she’s elected it will be very bad for drivers. Because more bikes = less cars which means a faster commute for drivers.

I was going to pop into MEC as well and see what they have.

I don't mind spending up to the almost-$1000 area for a good bike.

I'm also kind of wondering, do I want a single speed? I appreciate it for what it is, but sometimes I do think I want options when going uphill, etc.

To be clear, she's not just talking about e-scooters and e-bikes. I'm sure its more about e-motos, battery-powered motorcycles. Kids (like early teens) are bombing around on these things at night in groups of 1/2 a dozen or more, no lights on, doing wheelies, one-handed wheelies, going the wrong way, running red lights, no helmets or safety equipment. Someone is going to get killed. I just hope it's not an innocent bystanders.

We're not going to be there long enough to do much proper exploring and we've had some good bike tours in other places, and would love a guided tour of Toronto. Anyone have any recommendations on guides or services? Anything in particular we should avoid?

This was today at Riverdale Park. The most work on the trail than I've seen in a year.

My place has a shared driveway where it can be difficult getting our bikes out from storage in the backyard. We ride near daily so access is critical.

We don’t have sufficient space on our front porch for our two adult and two kids bikes.

I’m considering taking over some of our front garden to install a couple of bike posts/racks (affixed to poured concrete or something) for ease of access.

Does anyone have tips, experience or recommendations?
