i know this conversation has happened over and over again, but this credit card shit is abysmal. i just started working at Marshall's 3-4 weeks ago, and i'm already over it. i live in a very touristy area, so the store is busy in the summer. they have me working register, and i feel like i rarely get even a few minutes where i'm not ringing someone up, even on slower days. i'm also definitely the fastest one, because i don't dilly dally.

i barely ask if anyone wants to sign up for the credit card unless a manager or CEC is around because i think it is beyond stupid. i'm simply too aware of the state of the economy to ask people to fuck up their credit score or go into more debt. a senior coworker even "warned" me that the store manager takes the cards very seriously, and if i don't get enough sign ups, they could take it to CORPORATE! the only sign ups i get are when an assistant/floor manager comes up and asks the customer in Portuguese, and even though she got the sign up, she writes it down as me. i'll only ask once. most people i ask aren't stupid enough to fall for it.

one of the assistant manager's is always on my ass about it, telling me i have to ask because "it's part of my job". no it isn't! i am a cashier not a bank teller! this wasn't in the job description when i applied. if it was i would have tried to find another job. and she'll call quick meetings after closing and tell everyone we have to ask, and i know she's mostly talking to me. she tells us we have to engage with the customer and then ask them about the card. yes, let me make this person feel seen and have a friendly conversation with them, just to turn around and ask them to sign up for a credit card. do you see how fake that sounds!!! i know i'm just more introverted than other cashiers, but i don't want to have a conversation, and most people don't either, they just want to pay and leave.

the main thing that irks me is the assistant manager or CEC complaining about the long line, but then having a 5-10 minute conversation with a customer that SOMEONE ELSE is ringing up (so we just have to stand there awkwardly), and just holding the line up even more because they can't stop asking about the credit cards, despite being told no no no. and don't even get me started on the fact that they keep getting people who just moved to this country to sign up, or J1's who are literally only here for the summer to work before going back to their home country where they don't even have any TJX stores. it's so stupid. i feel like it's because they have no idea what they're even signing up for, they just hear that it's a 10% discount, which by the way, they barely make clear can only happen ONCE.

Just a quick rant..I don't HATE kids at all, infact I'm rather good at working with them, but I'm tired of parents taking their kids that don't know how to behave at all into my location and just letting them run around and do whatever they want! And it isn't usual disturbances like crying babies/infants.. you can't blame a parent for having a crying baby in public, that's just what babies do. It'll be children above the age of 6 just flat out SCREAMING at the top of their lungs and running around! And their parents will never tell them to stop or be quiet. I'm usually the person who closes up front and I swear I'll hear kids scream over anything and everything from halfway across the store! How do parents not feel embarrassed when this happens?? Do they just tune out every little thing that their kid does? I don't get it! Like please either gently correct your child's behavior or leave them at home with a family member or caregiver. Don't make the employees and customers deal with it 🥲

Whether you’re a customer, or an employee it doesn’t matter just anything and everything you like about the store/stores.

Today I picked up a cashier shift usually I’m on the men’s floor most of the time and sometimes the backroom but I decided to pick up a cashier shift since I’m technically a cashier (if they need backup they’ll call me it happened twice). It’s easy I know the basic steps and everything during the second week of my training I was trained to be a cashier for a week. Today was normal as usual and of course we have to ask every customer if they were shopping with the store card and if they want to apply. But I was asking the wrong way instead I would say if they want to apply for the card after I greet them and the coordinator let me know what I was doing wrong and reminded me that I didn’t ask the last two customers about the card. I’m going to be honest sometimes I forgot to ask I know that’s not an excuse in any way but it’s true sometimes I forget to ask customers about the card. She also said that she’s not always going to be there to help out and that I may need to be trained again. Later on, she brought the big training book and I was learning to do the store card application part again. After that, I resumed being a cashier and a few minutes later I got called to the backroom to help out and later to the women’s floor. Throughout the rest of my shift, I was bummed out because I felt embarrassed I was thinking back to what the coordinator said back during my training how if we’re only good at one department then we’re not useful and if we try to ask for more hours they won’t give it. Also, I was thinking back to when she said during my training that she would always be here and if we need any help or have questions, and that there are no stupid questions just for her in my eyes to contradict herself today. Maybe I’m just exaggerating thinking like that but now I’m worried because my anxiety was going up when she was letting me know of my mistakes and I fear if I keep making mistakes I’ll get fired even if it’s minor and now I’m afraid I won’t get more hours every time I see a shift I pick up just to work more hours. I feel useless because I can’t do cashier an easy job with some demands I can do everything else perfectly because I've been doing it for years.

I don’t know if anyone else has had this problem. There’s a coworker who I texted a few months ago and told her that she couldn’t text me anymore. And I told her to stop texting me because she would say she had so much going on and needed to talk to me. All she would do is talk trash about coworkers and the managers. Whether it was in a text or a phone call. Now when we work the same shifts she looks at me like I shouldn’t be allowed in the store. Another thing. She would text me while she was at work on my day off and complain about coworkers and the managers. And she was always complaining about how she doesn’t want to be there and she wants to curl up in a ball and cry. And that no one treats her like an adult. She talks back to on of the managers. She ha autism but honestly a lot of the time she uses her autism as an excuse to try and get people to feel sorry for her and she uses it to try and get out of doing her job when she’s at work. She left TJ Maxx in December 2024 and worked at Publix for a few months then came back in summer of 2025. From what it sounded lIke, she left because she didn’t want to do what her managers there asked her to do. Even though all of her coworkers had to do the same task as well. I’m definitely tired of being looked at like I shouldn’t be allowed in the store. I’ve been at TJ Maxx 6 and 1/2 years. I’ve never had any problems with any of my managers and I do what they ask me to do without complaining. I know we have open door policy. But I don’t know if I should talk to the managers about her attitude towards me. The managers ask me to cover her 15 minute break in the fitting room and when I go to cover her break she looks at me like she’s pissed that I’m the one covering her break even though I’m doing what the managers asked.

I’ve been working at tj maxx since the end of may and this is my first job. I wasn’t trained on register for like the first month. Today I had to write my name in the book for the first time today and it was for like a little over a hundred dollars missing from my register. I’ve been told not to worry but idk that’s Lwk a lot of money idek how that happened since I’m pretty good at counting. Should I start looking for a new job or nah 😭
