Found this in a novel by George Orwell, Keep the Aspidistra Flying. I wonder if the writers of The Young Ones took it from here? Obviously more than one person is capable of putting the words rickety and chair together - but made me wonder.

I have young relatives I would like to show them 'The Young Ones'. I showed some friends a few years back but they didn't really take to it. I think they were too old for first time viewers. I think you have to be young to really get the humour and develop a love for the show. I was maybe 5 or six when I first saw the show. I was so young when I first watched 'Nasty' I didn't really know what a virgin was. I thought it was like a star sign or something.

How old were you when you first saw the show and what do you think is the ideal age for a first viewing?

I Feel a lot of People didn’t like Mike that much in the Years and felt he was a bit of a dud. I’ve known people who thought he was actually meant to be cool but came of as lame and try hard. but to me that’s actually why he is great. He and the other Housemates think he is Cooler than he actually is. for example when he is trying it on with Cinderella he is just as clueless as the others.

he also has some of my favourite bits in the series like ‘You already know that and we don’t care’ and I’ve just nailed my legs to the table.

What are your thoughts on Mike?
