Live mystery Rewatchables coming Monday afternoon

Sometime in the afternoon (PT) on Netflix. Bill said he will announce it over the weekend but "there's a really, really good chance you've seen it." Looks like one of the big ones may be coming off of the board.

Craig is right: King of Queens rules

I listened to the episode on Hitch last night - fun if not somewhat chaotic due to Bill, Van and Mina talking over each other way too often. There was a point during Hottest Takes when I had to hurl my headphones off my head due to how unpleasant it was listening to them crash their words.

Anyway … I really enjoyed Craig bigging-up King of Queens on more than one occasion during the episode, and here my’s Hottest Take: KoQ is the most underrated sitcom of the last 30 years.

That may not be the case in the US but it certainly is in the UK where very few people have heard of it, let alone seen it. That has been my experience anyway from speaking about it with friends, family and work colleagues. Genuinely, my brother aside, no one I know/come across has any relationship with KoQ whatsoever, and everyone should given how great it is. Funny and also dark in a way that you don’t see in most/all similar shows: there is an episode in which Doug, Kevin James’s character, tries to get his wife Carrie, played by Leah Remini, drunk every night after work because he prefers her that way. James and Remini are also two members of a fantastic cast, the star of which is no doubt Jerry Stiller as Arthur. Truly, one of the great sitcom characters of all time.

Anyway, well done Craig for giving KoQ its flowers on The Rewatchables. My sense from listening to the Hitch episode is that Bill, Van and Mina don’t have much of a relationship with it either. They, and everyone, should.

Is Kevin James the most successful actor to have never been on the pod? Or I guess was until Hitch

Also could be viewed as the Kevin James Award for leading man who only makes bad movies award. Let me know who else you think fits into this category

Apex mountain: tom cruise running scene...

Probably has been debated already... but saw some fan discourse suggesting the ultimate collaboration of nolan and cruise in the future and I thought...

When was tom cruise running at its apex... when did it look the best and have the most juice??

These recent episodes got me to start running it back from the beginning...

Movies they have to do before the pod wraps

If they don't ever do at least a few of these movies, the pod will ultimately be a failure, IMO (you may not love all of these movies, but they are ALL insanely rewatchable, objectively so):

  1. Tootsie

  2. Boyhood

  3. Carrie

  4. The Squid and the Whale

  5. Little Miss Sunshine

  6. Juno

  7. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

  8. Almost Famous

  9. Dog Day Afternoon

  10. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

  11. Thirteen

  12. 500 Days of Summer

  13. Class

  14. Slumdog Millionaire

  15. Crooklyn

  16. Short Cuts

  17. Welcome to the Dollhouse

  18. Into the Wild

Hypothetical rewatchable... won me over month

This hypothetical month is about those movies that you think are awful at first but upon rewatch or second thought you realize that these films are far more redeemable than you thought... you were late to the party on this

The primary example to use for this is Bill's infamous story on Rounders... black hat works too

Wow. Interstellar is on Bill's crosshairs for The Rewatchables!!

Next ‘new release’ Rewatchable?

What do we think will be the next ‘new release’ rewatchable in the same vein as when the guys did Sinners, F1 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood? Will it be The Odyssey or maybe Project Hail Mary?

Swashbuckler Month

These would be my picks for a swashbuckler month. All these movies came out within five years of each other. We used to be a country that swashed buckles. What happened? It seems buckling swashes is a lost art. I’d love to see these films celebrated. Where my buckleheads at? Swash up!

The “Best Road Trip, Worst Roadtrip” Award for Character You’d Like to Drive Across Country With and The One You’d Not

I spent time workshopping this one in my brain a while ago when I saw the end of movie drive in Good Will Hunting, and decided that Will would be a terrible travel companion.

1) his car is shit. No need to re-hash this, we all know it. Moving on.
2) he’s got to be a “no need to stop, I’ll just pull over to the shoulder, you can piss in those trees” type of guy. Not for me.
3) he’s driving across country to see about a girl, who you just know is going to be talking to a guy, and Will will get 6 months for the beating he puts on that guy
4) you’ll wake up and see him staring at a notepad solving some math equation while driving on the other side of the road
5) he’s broke. You’re going to the bar and you’re paying. Or you’re not going to the bar because he spent his last five on a pack of cigs and you’re paying for gas the rest of the way.

Best car ride is Chucky for obvious reasons. You are going to town to town portraying Wall Street bros to get into the nice hotels à la Axel Foley, and then being a guy’s guy at the bar in case you run into the local ponytail guy.

Done in August 2019 by Bill & CR, so might as well have been another century.

The rare (only?) evil Tom Cruise film, great LA vibe, good soundtrack (something rarely discussed on the pod) also Mark Ruffalo as a That Guy role. It's a good time.

Would love a more thorough pod with the new categories and Van
