I signed up for an apparent HEB-TXU collab from a couple of salesmen in HEB earlier today where they claimed the plan comes down to 10 cents/kWh (after a combination of credits) if I sign up with them while in-store.

Since I signed up today, I have until Monday (7/27) to rescind the contract if I choose to do so.

My current plan with Champion is their Saver 12-month fixed rate plan with an average rate of 12.9 cents/kWh.

According to the Energy Label for the TXU plan, the contract rate has a much higher average rate of 17.2 cents/kWh, so I'm wondering how the salesmen figure the rate goes down to 10 cents/kWh after discounts/credits.

There's supposed to be a $100 gift card for switching and the plan has special conditions free nights and a Summer bonus.

Anyways, I'm hoping to get an understanding of the potential costs before next week so I can choose to stay or cancel.

Folks, electricity rates are wildly cheap right now. I'm shocked... because it's the middle of the summer. Generally, rates should be at their highest of the year.

In this file, I've taken a full download of all the plans listed on PowerToChoose.org and filtered out all the BS...

• No minimum usage fees
• No tiered rates
• No base charges
• No bill credits
• No time-of-use
• No required connected thermostat
• No credit card processing fees
• I've also removed Energy Texas because those are just duplicates of Rhythm. They're the same company with the same plans/rates now.

What you're left with are simple plans with Energy Charge + Delivery Charges only.

Rhythm has some additional savings where if you can connect your smart thermostat for additional $5 monthly savings per month. Has anyone used this -- document find it annoying or just something that happens seamlessly in background and you don't even notice it?

A few specific questions:

1. If you have 2 units in the house can you sign up with just one of the 2 thermostats? Or does it have to be all of them?

2. What is the range of temperature changes you have noticed Rhythm make during peak times? I don't want them changing mine drastically, say from 74 to 78 or 79, though small movements would be ok. What has been your experience?

3. Do you have to keep your thermostat to always ON I.e. on Cool setting? Or can you still manage as you want and Rhythm intervenes during peak hours if they need to.

Any help regarding these questions or even sharing of your personal experiences would be very helpful.

Has anyone found an easy way to link up and display Smart Meter Texas data in Home Assistant? I am new to both and looking for ways to get a nice visual depiction of my smart meter data in realtime. I thought home assistant may be a good place to start.

It's got live load vs forecast, real-time zone and hub prices, day-ahead vs real-time spreads, and fuel mix for every grid, plus daily coincident-peak forecasts.

Considering between these 2 EFLs (both companies are unknown to me) - which would you choose and why?

Rhythm says I can call in and get a referral credit (have a friends referral code) manually added after choosing the PTC plan. That will be a one time $100 credit. Dunno if Budget Power offers any sign on bonuses/referral credits.

ANy idea why there are only 2 3-month plans in the centerpoint (Houston) area?

Normally there are a dozen or so.

Is Tuesday the day everyone changes their plans? Maybe plans just are not posted yet.

Parents are nearing end of their contract with Reliant and want to switch. They own their house.

I researched into these 2 companies.

Abundance 36 months has the clearly lower rate and would save them ~$400 over 3 years based on past recorded usages.

However, BKV has the $100 sign up bonus ($50 referral + $50 code) and loyalty bonus. I also heard they can notify and switch you to a cheaper plan without an early termination fee, so that could bridge that price gap. BKV also seems to have good customer service?

Alternatively, I can also sign them up for the 12-month, but I’m afraid prices won’t be as good next year when renewal comes.

Just want to hear some thoughts?

If you’ve been shopping for electricity lately, you may have noticed that both residential and commercial rates seem to be dipping compared to the past few weeks. If your contract is coming up for renewal, don’t just roll it over for another year without checking. It’s worth taking a few minutes to compare plans, especially based on your actual usage, not just the advertised rate.

Has anyone paid Rhythm Energy or Energy Texas (or any other REP) with the PayPal Debit Card? Does it earn 5% under the Fuel category?

Alternatively, please share if you have been successful in receiving 3% or more cash back on any other credit card, if not on PayPal debit card.

The best fixed rate plans with no credits, discounts or gimmicks, are at about 12-12.5¢ per kwhr currently.

I need help deciding wherever to sign up for 6 months or 12 months at these rates. If signing from 6 months, renewal will come up in mid January. I am hoping to collect some data / wisdom from those who signed up in Jan/Feb of 2026 -- were you able to lock in better than 12-12.5¢ prices in winter?

Hey folks, longtime lurker, chronic energy nerd. The Smart Meter Texas site is great data but kind of miserable on a phone, so I finally wrote my own app to see my usage the way I actually wanted to.

What it does: pulls all your meters, charts daily/hourly kWh and estimated cost, lets you compare periods and drill into a single meter, basically so you can see your real usage patterns when you're deciding on a plan/REP.

I'd love a handful of people to kick the tires via a beta before I think about a wider release.

New to electric plan shopping in TX. I am currently on a month to month plan: Can I switch mid month or does it have to be at the end of the billing cycle? Also, what is the process -- do u simply sign up with the new provider (say GEXA or APG&E) and they will take care of switching you over on a predetermined date?

Also, for those using GEXA and / or APG&E, do both these providers allow for credit and debit card payments at no additional cost?

It is many years that I am using Gexa. No issues. This year I checked other providers. Based on my consumption I found Energy Texas and Octopus offer really better rates and I may change. Does anyone use any of these providers? Any issues?

Every year I'm astounded at the jump in my June electric bill despite never lowering my a/c below 76, aggressively price shopping for better rates, regularly changing my filters, running a dehumidifier, and trying not to be wasteful in general. My house is 1250 sf and my bill for june was $175. It is an old house with poor insulation but I really do make an effort to keep my bill down. Anyway, what did y'all pay last month? And if your bill is low, what are your tips?

I'm reluctant to sign up for 1:6 BS net metering contract .... but I can't find one that is truly "fair" and offers 1:1

My Gexa contract is up 7/15. Obviously their renewal offer was ridiculously high so I started on powertochoose. While also looking in here for tips (really appreciate the energy shopping wiki!)

After seeing how many here said spring/fall renewals are cheaper I looked up 3 month plans. There’s only 1 available, from Infuse Energy, first picture attached. 8.662 rate + $2 base charge.. but it’s only 3 months.

For comparison I found the best 12 month plan from APG&E, other picture. 6.308 rate.

We use over 2,000 kWh/month year round. The AC really only stops running if it’s below 60 outside (I have a heat intolerance sadly).

I’m not very experienced at reading the facts labels so I could be missing something on either of these. But is the electricity rate in October good enough to bother with the 3 month plan or should I just go with 12 month?

Especially considering all the AI centers being built, new grid rules & all the other click bait in the news about electricity in TX.

Also.. all of the companies offering lower rate plans had 1-2 stars. On the first page anyways. Does their star rating matter that much?

A big thank you to this sub for helping me find a plan that works for me. As you can see by my 1st bill, the total comes out to about 9 cents per kWh. That's fantastic, compared to my previous company. Now, about those delivery charges to Centerpoint...

Oh, I signed up during spring. When I checked for this same plan recently, it was quite high. It does pay to shop during winter and spring. As you can see, I signed up for 3 years. Figure that prices only go up from here.
