Our most requested feature since launch has undoubtedly been the ability for players to create and share their own Multiplayer and Skirmish maps to play in Tempest Rising. We are very excited to finally deliver our Unreal Engine-based map editor!

Whether you are experienced with using Unreal Editor or this is completely new to you, we have prepared very in-depth documentation to walk you through every step to start creating your very first Tempest Rising map.

Thank you to everyone for your passion for Tempest Rising and for requesting a map editor over the last year. Your feedback directly led to the development of this tool, and we can’t wait to see what you create!

Community Maps πŸ’€ SKULL [TR Horde Mode Map]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all :) My first time posting in here.

Figured I'd share a custom map I've made with the TR map editor – it's a 1-4 player co-op horde mode map. I did a bit of custom blueprint scripting to spice things up. It's intended to be a bit more of a casual base defense experience.

The goal of the map is to survive as long as you can. I've seen some players (shout out to Intresocs) make it past 3 hours, which is pretty insane. And pushing Tempest to its limits, of course :D

Some notable features:

  • Enemy waves spawn from 4 directions, spawn amount scaling infinitely over time
    • Spawn locations can be adjusted with Modifiers (see below)
  • Defeated enemies grant Credits to everyone on Team 1
  • Once in a while, a Boss unit spawns with a wave, with X% more HP, granting X% more Credits when killed (also scaling infinitely)
  • Everything scales with amount of players / bots in the game; so co-op shouldn't be too much of a steamroll. And solo-play should still be viable. Hopefully!
  • Difficulty settings (Casual, Easy, Normal, Hard, Insane)
    • Difficulty impacts stuff like spawn rate/amount of units spawned (slower scaling), Credits recieved on kill, prep time before waves start, Boss % scaling, slower tech scaling for enemy waves
  • Modifier settings (Default, Aggressive, Defensive, Adaptive)
    • [Default] – No modifier. Waves spawn from random locations (standard setting).
    • [Aggressive] – waves ALWAYS spawn from all 4 directions.
    • [Defensive] – waves ALWAYS spawn from South-East.
    • [Adaptive] – waves ALWAYS spawn from both South-East, and South-West.

Let me know what you think!

If you have any feedback, or encounter issues, I'd love to try addressing it.

If anyone wants the project sourcefiles, I'd be happy to share those, too.

Link to steam workshop (includes an in-game lobby set-up step, since you need a bot in Slot 5 to be able to adjust difficulty / Modifier): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3766944216

General Haven't played since the game came out, is it worth?

So I played a couple missions of the game when it came out and then dropped it. I grew up playing all the C&C games, from the OGs to Red Alert 1 & 2, Yuri's Revenge, Zero Hour...

My biggest gripe of tempest rising was that a lot of the units had individual abilities which included a lot of micro management in fight. From what I remember, at least in Zero Hour for example -- individual unit micro management wasn't a thing unless you had the one hero unit from every faction. Otherwise for any battles you could just CTRL+Click at the enemy and they'd fight and that's it, the fun of the game for me was less of the battles but more of building an economy and manufacturing empire to simply dominate.

I'm no stranger to micro managing individual units, I played Dota 2, Starcraft 2, but for some reason Tempest Risings implementation scared me away

Has it gotten better since release?

Product Question Linux version

Hi all!

Hi all, first of all thank you for putting out a demo version for people to try. Do you plan on making a linux version or officially support the platform on one or more compatibility solution? (i.e. proton)

I'd like to buy the full product but as i gave the demo a try it CTD right after the starting cutscene, which gives me a bit of a pause on the purchase. If there are some linux users around I'd welcome their feedback too if they got the game running.

Thanks in advance and thanks to the devs for making an exciting strategy game (and having a demo)!

Tip/Guide On the insane campaign

After finish the campaign on insane, I have to say that the campaign is not balanced for this difficulty. Enemy throw a lots of things at you and you have low income which force you to play defensively and make mission last forever. Beside that many mission is impossible if you don't clear the map before getting your base because once you get your base, enemy will come from all side of the map with about 200 or more pop each wave and you don't have anything to do about it. Luckily the enemy is stupid and just attack move to our base so we can abuse that to win.

Some of the mission that feel imposible is 4th and 8th of GDF and 3rd of DYN. And coincidenly all of them are timed defense that don't have a proper prepare time and I hope the Veti campaign don't have any mission like that.

So if you are going to do campaign on insane there is something to notice:

-In many map enemy is passive before you finish the quest that give you the base which make clear them easier.

-Clear the map before doing the main quest and processing is advised if possible because it reduce the number of enemy that will attack you in some mission and make side quest much easier in other mission. Also you never know if triggering the next quest increase enemy spawn rate or not so always prepare.

-Elite unit (max tier veterancy) can regen which mean you can use your unit to clear a camp, regen then continue until you clear out the map which out the need of a base.

-Some mission enemy attack allied base which in those case get the base soon is better than clearing the map first. But those mission are rare.

-If you have spare technician or engineer, capture a enemy rig or refinary help you have money to deploy ability if you don't have a base

-Always use high ground if possible because enemy don't have vision force them to move close before start shotting.

Now come to the guide for each faction:

*GDF: Many people say GDF is easier, but I don't think it is entirely true. They have more tool but there tank is paperthin and get oneshot by Porcubine and melted by Voltatic make some mission hard.

-Importance Upgrade: Regen for Infantry and Vehicle armory upgrade is importance if you want to clear the map before getting your base.

-Defense: Trebuchet, Laser Turret and Engineer is the combo here. You may add Tempest or Haywire to add debuff on the enemy but not really neccesary. (2-5 Treb depend of mission with 5-10 Laser Turret and you can safely ignore that chock point, remember to replace Engineer if he die).

-Elite team (The one you should focus on level up first in no base mission): Sniper and Drone Assassin are strong specialist, Hunter Tank and Trebuchet is good vehicle, and for Infantry anyone use drone is good.

-Infantry: Drone Operator and Drone Mauler is both good as enemy focus on drones. Other isn't good in campaign so just ignore them or you can play them for fun.

-Vehicle: Hunter Tank is decent but GDF don't have other option. Trebuchet is tougher, deal more damage especialy to infantry and have siege mode but move super slow, still the best tank. Scramble is good as attacking squad with micro, fast, stealth, high damage and long ranger, down side is they are super fragile. Other is sitiational.

-Aircraft: Drone Command Unit outshine all other airplane in campaign, they are basically Carrier in Starcraft and one you have enough, nothing can stop you. You can also put Drone Operator in Skycrane as a replacement before unlock Drone Command Unit if you really want to use it.

-Specialist: Sniper is really strong anti infantry and scouting. Drone Assasin is strong anti vehicle. Riot Medic is healer and can also be used as tanker. Other 2 is situational.

-Note: It is good to steal DYN Construction Yard to get the plans even if you don't use enemy's unit.

*DYN: DYN don't have as much tool as GDF but some of their tool are strong. Also you might want to build 3 Contructions Yard at some point to get all 3 plans active.

-Good Upgrade: Improved Reliability is good as it make your Vehicle tankier.

-Defense: Even though DYN doesn't have as much tool as GDF, 1 or 2 deployed Savage Center with enough Rocket Turret and Security Plan will stop anythings (don't worry about Trebuchet as AI don't know how to use them). Though you need to micro them when attacked by Drones. You can add Voltaic Railgun to the defense if you like. SAM is situational as Rocket Turret is good enough against air already.

-Elite Team: Operative, Commando and Machinist. Then Voltaic and Boar Tank. DYN don't have passive regen but they have ability to build a healing building for infantry and their tank is more tanky than GDF to compensate.

-Infantry: DYN infantry is only good at one thing (anti infantry or anti vehicle) and they are not super good in insane campaign. Assault Gunner is decent anti air if you don't want to play Havoc.

-Vehicle: Voltaic Tank is super good, high damage, high health, AoE but they are unlocked late in the campaign. Boar is a good tank, less range but more tanky than the Hunter of GDF, fully upgraded boar (doctrine and armory) can 1 vs 2 Hunter, they lack damage to infantry but can run over them anyways, and also as most GDF units use rifle, they can't pierce boar armor at all. Porcupine is good artilery that shot hard and don't require set up. Havoc is a good additional that help DYN deal with air unit. Savage Van is good at repairing and can be deploy as Savage Center help you build defense anywhere on the map.

-Aircraft: Really situational. Not as good as GDF and no aircraft that can both attack air and ground. Maybe if you want to bomb something then return.

-Specialist: Both Operative and Commando is good stealth unit that can hit both Vehicle and Infantry. Machinist can repair in area like Savage Van but cheaper and have strong attack. The other 2 is situational.

Eventhough finish insane with all sidequest is possible with the strategy I said, if you still feel insane is too hard with side quest, you can do it without the side quest and replay on easy to get that quest.

It has been a while since I played TR. I think there was no way of saving and sharing replays. It is very difficult to create a community without it for obvious reasons... Is this feature still not available? And in that case, are there any furture plans to include it?

Bug Report Tempest Rising Map Editor Error

SOLVED (It seems...): See my comment below.

Anybody have any idea what is generating this error? Followed the steps in the map maker guide and got to the part where you enable the MapInfo in the Mod Content Folder.

If I enable "Use Map Info" under LevelSetup\MapInfo I get the following error and cannot find a good guide on this error:

Path does not start with a valid root. Path must begin with one of: /BloodyPath/, /Bloody_path/, /ZooExampleMap/, /SetdressingExampleMap/, /NavGrid/, /ConcertSyncClient/, /MetaHumanProjectUtilities/, /BaseCharacterFXEditor/, /ObjectMixer/, /LightMixer/, /Paper2D/, /AnimationSharing/, /MediaPlate/, /MediaCompositing/, /Synthesis/, /WaveTable/, /ResonanceAudio/, /RigVM/, /AudioSynesthesia/, /MeshModelingToolset/, /Metasound/, /GeometryScripting/, /GeometryProcessing/, /AudioWidgets/, /ToolPresets/, /PythonScriptPlugin/, /GeometryCollectionPlugin/, /MeshModelingToolsetExp/, /ChaosNiagara/, /GeometryFlow/, /FullBodyIK/, /SequencerScripting/, /Dataflow/, /ChaosCaching/, /ChaosSolverPlugin/, /Takes/, /GLTFExporter/, /DatasmithContent/, /MeshLODToolset/, /UVEditor/, /Interchange/, /SpeedTreeImporter/, /ModelingToolsEditorMode/, /GeometryMode/, /BlueprintHeaderView/, /IKRig/, /ControlRigSpline/, /ControlRigModules/, /ControlRig/, /ACLPlugin/, /NiagaraSimCaching/, /GameplayCameras/, /Niagara/, /TraceUtilities/, /Bridge/, /ChaosVD/, /Engine/, /Engine/, /Game/, /Engine/, /Engine/, /Game/

Any Guidance would be appreciated.

Forum Question Tips for ranked please

I did a few matches on ranked with GDF and did pretty well. After the latest update, it's been nothing but defeats and getting matched with silver players though. I can't seem to keep up. Seems by the time im about to expand on to a second base my opponent already has 3 bases and a massive army. I love the game but losing every single match gets stale quick, and apparently im the only bronze player in the game. Can anyone offer some tips/videos that could help me up my game?

General Petition: Bring Tempest Rising to PlayStation 5! Fill the RTS Void!

Hi everyone,

Now that Tempest Rising has proven that classic, old-school RTS is alive and kicking, many of us who don't own a high-end gaming PC are left looking at the sidelines.

As a massive Command & Conquer fan who plays on PlayStation 5, I strongly believe there is a massive, untapped market for this game on consoles. That's why I started a Petition to show publisher THQ Nordic and the developers at Slipgate Ironworks that the demand is real!

Why Tempest Rising needs a PS5 port:

  • A Massive Void on PS5: Microsoft keeps its RTS heavyweights (Age of Empires IV, Halo Wars 2) locked to the Xbox ecosystem. The PlayStation 5 currently has a severe lack of classic RTS games featuring true, free base-building. The competition on this platform is virtually non-existent.
  • Controllers are No Longer an Obstacle: Games like Age of Empires or Iron Harvest have completely debunked the myth that RTS only works on PC. Modern radial menus and shortcuts map beautifully to gamepads. Plus, the PS5 supports native mouse and keyboard anyway.
  • The PS5 has the Horsepower: With its fast SSD and powerful GPU, the PS5 can easily handle massive battles, destructible environments, and intense particle effects smoothly at 60 FPS.
  • A Win-Win for THQ Nordic: THQ Nordic has shown courage before by bringing SpellForce 3 to consoles. Unlocking the PS5 player base would open up a completely new, passionate audience starving for exactly this type of gameplay.

If you want to see classic C&C-style action on the couch, please take a minute to sign and share the petition. Let's make some noise so the publishers hear us!

πŸ‘‰ Sign the Petition Here: https://c.org/pxnYCqfh8V

Thanks for your support!
