So I recently had a training about opening different types of accounts, and I was really taken aback. The HR trainer, who kept mentioning her 20 years of banking experience, said that the bank doesn’t make any profit from CDs and actually loses money on them.
I understand the point she was trying to make about how checking accounts with direct deposit help build relationships, and that part made sense. But when she said that CDs aren’t profitable, I was honestly disappointed in the quality of the training. It even made me start doubting myself for a moment.
Is this a normal situation?

I’m a licensed banker with series 6, 63 and insurance license. However I would like to not be a branch banker anymore, the next best role is to be an FA. How do you compare FA or similar roles at WF, Chase, BofA, Merill, Schwab, Fidelity etc? Which firm offers the best base and incentives? My base is at 100k and my bonus is about 40k so it’s not bad but I’m not the top performer either.

My bank will not sponsor series 7 and 65/66 because they’re not needed for my role, but I would like to get them and move on to bigger things. However to even be considered to be an FA you have to already have series 7 and 66 so I don’t really know where to begin.

I just took a job offer as a Teller (CSR) and I was curious what are some ways people have spruced up their station to be more home-y or a unique representation of yourself and what you like!
I remember my first teller job a lot of people swapped out their keyboards for fun colored ones, interesting mouse pads, customized note books and calendars.

As I cam getting back into the office world, I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions of what they do to enjoy their space while at work. :)

Edit: Wow, I am realizing hardly any branches allow personalization of their stations. How sad! I hope since I am returning to the same company I once worked for they will be okay with it!

Currently a 2yr branch Merrill FSA in NYC, receiving lots of support and exposure from managers, but constantly being micromanaged while also continuing doing banking service due to the dual role responsibilities as field advisor.

I’m interviewing for Chase PCA role in NYC as well, I’m well aware of sales pressure at Chase but my understanding is that there’s better opportunities to grow a book of business as well as focus only on being an advisor and better base salary.

Does anyone have experiences to share and give some insight/advice? Thanks.

I recently accepted a Relationship Banker role at Chase, and compared to my previous RB position at Bank of America, it’s a significant upgrade in base salary. The role is also more focused on banking and relationship management, with much less teller work, and there are incentive opportunities on top of the higher base pay.

That got me wondering, what keeps people at Bank of America as an RB?

Is it the benefits, culture, career progression, the relationship with your FCM, or something else?

I’m not trying to criticize anyone’s decision. I’m genuinely interested in understanding why some people choose to stay at BofA rather than move to another bank if the compensation and role seem stronger elsewhere.

I was hired and am training on universal banker job functions. Im a float. I was at a different branch than my manager today and I heard the acting manager say "im fine with taking it slow" with regards to my schedule working on the banker side.

I think if she had her way, I would only be a teller. Im going to have to fight to prove I am capable of opening accounts, doing CDs, credit cards etc. Whereas at the other branch I can see the manager really coaching and investing in the RM and UB to push them into growth.

I can't make waves im brand new to the industry. Just want strategies to ensure that one person's opinion doesn't hold me back in perpetuity.

I work as a contractor with cash at a Big4 bank, one of my personal credit cards is with them. I’ve called cardholder service phone number from the back of my card and told the associated person that I’m filing for chapter 7(I haven’t, it’s just credit card debt).
My manager within a short amount of days, out of the blue, asked if my parents are outside of the country (I moved to US alone a couple of years ago).
Are these things related? ChaptGPT is saying they can’t know, my intuition feels different. I’ll close my debt within a year or two but don’t think I will pass the credit check if they give me an offer. It will get rescinded 1000000%,

Hi everyone, I started working at a bank as a teller about 2-3 months ago & I’m about to pass my probationary period however I’ve accepted another offer from another bank (temporary position because I’m a student) how do I go on about resigning? Since I’m about to pass probation and it feels kind of awkward quitting now. Do I talk to my manager and how should I go on about that conversation? I also don’t know how transparent I should be

I went from serving in a restaurant to a customer service agent work from home with US Bank and I honestly don’t think I like it. I’m only 3 days in. I get it. Give it time. But the metrics and call volume and micromanaging sounds terrible.

previous job was 18 months as a manager, currently been pt teller at the horse bank for two months and i despise it. main manager is up my ass, both managers constantly contradict each other, there has been frequent issues with machines (huge delay in repairs bc manager negligence,) sales referrals are incredibly pushed, and it’s all super hard to balance as a new teller; it’s a struggle to please everyone and make sure i follow the procedure correctly.
i recently learned that almost all the staff quit because of the manager (which is why i was hired.)

honestly, i was super excited because i thought it was a more refined job, a pay raise, but honestly im not sure if it is for me. every time i wake up for work i feel a pit of dread in my stomach. I understand that it’s a financial institution which requires strict rules and perhaps i am overreacting or maybe im demanding too high expectations from this job but every time i try to look at it objectively…im still unsatisfied and hate going to work.

like everyone hates going to work and that’s life or whatever but like, i hate going to work, i get so insanely anxious (which is a pretty foreign feeling for me.) anyways, thanks guys

My bank’s procedure does not let us go straight to the product people request without going through a whole path and asking a whole bunch of questions. Lady was already getting pissed after sitting down for 0.6 seconds and demanded to know the rate immediately. Why are people always in a rush, in a hurry and pissed when at the bank? And the truth is bankers are salesmen so don’t expect to get what you want. You don’t know what you actually want and I’m here to tell you how wrong you are so I can sell more bank products and make more money for the bank. That’s what they pay me for so just let me do my job 😭

I’ve been a banker for 5 years and just switched FI. I am 33 years old and married. Last week I was opening an account for this guy in his 60s and he suddenly asked to take me out to coffee to “discuss banking business” during bank business hour. Like just leaving my job right then and there to go get coffee with him. I said no I could only work in the bank but he pressed a few more times. So I didn’t want to make a big deal so I just brushed it off and continued opening the account. Then asked me for my personal phone number. I said no just call my business phone. Then he asked if he could wait for me because it’s near closing time. I was uncomfortable and in the end told my manager about it. Apparently it happens a lot in this bank so it’s not a big deal. Maybe I’m just overthinking it lol. This has never happened to me after 8 years in the bank, the first few years I was a teller and helped 100 people per day and no one ever said anything like this.

So I’ve only been a care consultant at a credit Union for about 6 months. I’m already completely over it. I’ve worked in customer service for 20 years. Call centers for 6. This is one of the worst experiences of my life. I have would’ve never guessed financial illiteracy is this alarming of a rate. I get paid crap to be berated by people who don’t understand NSF fees and overdraft protections. It’s the same people who call everyday for the same problems. Instead of teaching them how to log in to their mobile app, we are made to just log them on remotely. How is that helpful? So guess what? They call 3-5 times daily to check their balances instead of us just teaching them how to do it? This is my first time ever working in banking and I’m already looking for a new job. Kudos to you guys for doing this! I have a new respect for tellers and customer service in banking that’s for sure.

i have an interview for banker at pnc in ohio. i applied 1st week of june and heard back from recruiter last week and did the phone pre screen and she scheduled me for an interview with the branch manager and told me I’ll be meeting with the leadership team and to dress up business professional.

few questions:

1. leadership team? will there be more than one person in the interview?

2. how long does the interview process usually take? (interview to getting offer letter to working) i asked the recruiter but she didn’t respond back to me in regards to that

3. the pay, they said anywhere between $19 to $25, ofc I’m shooting for the higher end but wanted to see what others were getting paid

4. any tips for the interview?

So I have a 3rd interview scheduled for an ABM position with beacon bank.

I currently work at a banker at a large regional bank. I was a grocery department manager prior to my banking. I am experienced in operations as well and am a notary.

Besides the obvious, stress operations, leadership skills, etc does anyone else know what areas I should emphasize?

My Branch Manager did my 60 day evaluation. He said I’m still slow in grasping banking. He’s not gonna transfer to fire me. But said I improved but my progress still slower than he expected. Also said my manager and my assistant bank manager said I’m book smart but struggle operational aspects . So I’m a bit frustrated. I don’t know what to think about it so far as a Bank teller.

I'd like to apologize if I ramble here. I have a horrible headache, and I'm exhausted.

I've been working for a credit union for about 4ish years. I've recently been "promoted" to the loan processing division to do auto loans and Home Equities. However, I think I may have screwed myself. My experience working in the branches was less than satisfactory, so I was looking for any reason to get out of there at all costs. This included taking a "dry promotion" without an increase in pay because I was already making more than their starting pay. Being that we no longer get the production bonuses on our paychecks from meeting branch goals, this means I have essentially taken a pay cut. Lesson learned the hard way on that one. Should have negotiated harder or refused the position if I was going to take on new responsibilities without being compensated for it.

I've been in my new position for a couple months now, and feel I should be more proficient than I am. The training has been less than satisfactory to say the least. It starts with sitting at the desk of your burnt out coworker to watch them do their loans and talk you through it. The next week that coworker will put aside their own workload as they sit at your desk and talk you through your own loan apps. Nobody checks on your progress, so on week 3, you are working on the apps by yourself, and just expected to keep asking questions because "Oh you'll just figure out most of it as you go." If there are any standard operating procedures out there, they are years out of date so it would be useless to follow them.

Once we started on HE products, it was the same training format, but they for some reason teach you the process completely out of order, because you are just supposed to figure it out as the apps come in through the queue. I expressed my frustration at this because learning this process out of order is keeping me and the other new guy from being able to build any solid foundation of knowledge and a solid workflow. There are mistakes of course, and the manager is trying to seem patient about it but still makes little snarky comments. I catch my own mistakes and own up to them immediately. I ask question as to how to avoid them in the future and get vague answers with an additional, "Yeah well you did that twice last week too." I was getting fed up and finally requested to get scheduled for some specific training classes so that I can finally feel competent and confident that I'm doing good work. However on my drive to work, I was told I was being pulled from the training class to help the department catch up on the weekend workload. This really made me angry as I've been trying so hard to get into that class, learn what I need to, and absolutely ball out on any future apps that come my way. After a heart to heart with another couple coworkers, I find out that this is just how this department runs. Disorganized, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants, no procedures to fall back on other than "Well this person told me to do it this way once," and now not getting access to the training I've been begging for. I'm almost starting to want to go back to the branch, which I hated, but at least I was less stressed out there. Otherwise, I'm thinking about finding something else and jumping ship so I don't give myself a heart attack.

I just can't figure out if I'm in a mismatched, underpaid role, being a big whiny baby, or if my department really is just a disorganize hellhole. I am just wondering if anybody else can provide some extra perspectives I haven't considered yet.
