Second time visiting Taiwan and Taipei, first time hiking Elephant Mountain. Tomorrow I go back to my home country after a week in Taipei. I will miss all of it dearly!

Is there anyone here who can advise if there are any shoegaze club nights or events that happen regularly in Taipei?

This might be a bit of an odd question, but I've really enjoyed riding Youbikes since coming to Taiwan. Unfortunately I'm heading home soon, but for a bit of nostalgia I'd like to buy a bike as similar to the Youbike as possible.

My daughter wants to do this as an activity and I’m having trouble locating a spot in my internet searches. The afternoon tea at the Jade Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental would fit the bill but it only allows children 12+ which won’t work for us. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Hey everyone, I'm hoping to get some real-world perspective before I commit serious time to applying.

A bit of context: I'm a Dutch student in my final year of European Studies and I did an exchange semester at Soochow University in Taipei about two years ago. I'm half Taiwanese, but that exchange was actually my first time properly living in Taiwan, and I speak decent level of Mandarin, both speaking and writing.

My academic background combines digital & tech laws, policy analysis, sustainability, strategic communication, and public affairs, and I'm currently doing a placement in Corporate & Legal Communications at a mid-sized company in the Netherlands, focused on internal communication around AI-driven organizational change.

Professionally, I have several years of marketing and PR experience across international settings, so I'm comfortable with stakeholder engagement, content strategy, and cross-cultural teams.

I'm now looking at whether it's realistic to line up a 6-month (or longer) internship in Taiwan, ideally in marketing, brand communications, ESG/sustainability, or something adjacent to policy-facing corporate communication.

From what I've read, the Netherlands and Taiwan have a reciprocal working holiday agreement, and I want to make sure I understand this correctly. It sounds like this visa technically counts as an employment permit on its own, so no separate work permit application would be needed, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has actually gone through this process rather than just read about it.

So my real questions for this community are:
- is it actually realistic for a non-local student to land a legitimate 6-month internship in Taiwan, especially applying from abroad rather than already being in the country?
- Has anyone here applied cold from their home country and successfully gotten hired before arriving, or did most people only get offers after they were already physically in Taiwan networking and interviewing in person?

My (by then) husband and I are doing a long honeymoon in Asia.

Seeing my family and friends in Taipei, then HK, Okinawa, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, then Shanghai. 3 weeks total. And we plan to do a lot of shopping.

Our longest leg is Taipei, where we’ll be for 6 days, and I’m wondering how we can offload some of our purchases.

Is there a decently-priced way to send stuff back to the states?

Went to a mall and visited a Taiwan Mobile store there. I found a Macbook Neo 8G/256GB on display and its being offered for NT$2900 (NT139 monthly installments) for existing customers that pay NT$1400 in monthly subscription. We checked with the store employee and they comfirmed this.

Has anyone taken this kind of offer ever? It sounds too good to be true.

I’m super excited to be coming to Taipei this September to do a fall semester exchange at NTU, and I’m looking for advice on where I should stay!

Ideally I’m after for a single room however am more than happy to share communal spaces, would also love to be relatively close to the uni or within cycling distance. Anything less than 19,000 NTD a month would be of the most interest to me but I am open to anything really.

Any info you think might be helpful would be much appreciated🙏

Hi Guys, would it be worth it to go to xitou monster village and eduacational area from taipei? We’re planning to go there on a day trip and thinking if it would be worth it with the long travel time that might cost half of our day.

If not, where do you recommend to go within the taipei or somewhere close.
