I, Borg.

I’m in a rewatch of this episode and I am at the scene where the officers are discussing the moral dilemma of destroying the Borg. I felt as though Picard was right the collective needed to be neutralized, but I also understood Beverly’s point. Any thoughts? Also as a side note Jonathan del Arco did a wonderful job portraying the Borg survivor. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks folks.

Subliminal? Remotely.

My son called round last night and, while waiting for a brew, he said, "I see now why every time I call round, you are watching Star Trek."

I said, "Oh yeah, why is that then?"

"Because there's an Enterprise hidden on the face of your remote." He said. Once he'd pointed it out, it was difficult to argue with. 🤣

Negotiations for the wormhole

S3 E8 The Price. Representatives of various entities including Starfleet and the Chrysalians are bidding for control of a supposed stable wormhole in Barzan space. The Chrysalian's representative, Devinoni Ral, manipulates the Caldonian rep to drop out. Riker (repping Starfleet) immediately tries to initiate a trade agreement with the Caldonian to add their proposal (trillium 323 deposits)to his offer, but Ral has already done so.

Every time I watch this episode the logic of that seems a little awkward to me. First of all, why scramble to grab that specific Caldonian resource? All the added bureaucracy and logistics would seem an unnecessary snarl. If it's a trade agreement, it's not like you're just getting something for free. Why not just increase whatever it is you were originally offering, or add some other valuable thing you already control that was not on the table? How about a few pallets of biomemetic gel? And for that matter, why try to raise the bidding at all? When someone drops out of the bidding for something it's not like the price goes up. It's not as if Premier Bhavani was expecting to receive everything that had been put on the table in the end. They would just be getting whatever the highest bidder was offering, and everyone else goes home with their toys. Everyone else could have just kept their mouths shut. But now the bidding war just got a lot more expensive.

(I'm just going to ignore the fact that basically anything can be replicated (including Trillium 323 whatever that is) I'm assuming in industrial quantities.)

Edit: I'm happy to presume in fact Trillium as well as some other things that have been established as such cannot be replicated. ☺️ Anyone have any insight regarding the rest of it?

Share your signed Cast Photos if you've got 'em!

Was really stupid lucky. In 2006, the 6 TNG actors all did a little convention in my area and Brent only charged $20; so they all felt obligated to do likewise! I got everyone but Stewart at one shot for next to nothing cost wise.

In hindsight I should have gotten 2 or 3 or 8 more signed but I didn't. LoL.

I later was able to get Stewart, and even though they're not pictured I added Denise Crosby, John de Lancie and Dwight Schultz to it for the hell of it. I'll add Wil Wheaton if I ever get to meet him, too.

Curious to see anyone else's signed cast shots if they have them!

My Fan Theory? Did Yesterday's Enterprise actually happen, was it the true timeline?

Has anyone else speculated that Yesterday's Enterprise is the TRUE timeline? Maybe by sending the Enterprise C back in time most of Star Trek beyond the scene where Kirk is lost on the Enterprise B is an alternate timeline like the Kelvin.

Because we know the Romulens had a special obsession for Captain Piccard, they created Shinzor specifically with him in mind, they emerge from isolation to greet the Enterprise D after decades (centuries?). Sure it's the flagship, but maybe it's because..... We know that Tasha had a rough life with her captors, developed Stockholm syndrome, had a half romulen child... The Romulens are badass in TNG. One random warbird is a match for the Feds Flagship. Maybe it's because Tasha had given them futuristic knowledge and weapons tech. Probably even better tech than the federation because the federation she came from had pulled out all the stops to win a war. Push comes to shove, Starfleet builds warships, look at Defiant. We've seen what the Dominian war did to Starfleets perspectives, imagine what they could have come up with in two decades of an existential war against the klingons. Maybe Earth and the Federation fell in 2366. I wonder if the Founders would have considered the Dominion war an acceptable risk if the Klingon Empire ruled the Alpha Quadrant.

Show Talk Watching "The Wounded" again, and I saw something I hadn't picked up on in past viewings...

When Gul Macet and his two aides beam over, Riker and Troi are there to greet them with Chief Miles. After the introductions, O'Brien gives a small nod, but at the same time, in the background, Deanna's head snaps around to look at Miles, like she senses his animosity. It continues after they all leave, and Deanna is the last one out. She stares at Miles for a few more seconds.

Just something I hadn't put together in my many, many, many past watches.

If she'd stayed on the show with Geordi moving down to Engineering, what should have changed on the bridge? If anything.

Fan art The Enterprise makes first contact with Howard the Duck.

HOWARD THE DUCK: For the record, I didn’t mean to insult the Klingon. He asked if I lay eggs. I panicked.

CAPTAIN JEAN LUC PICARD: Mister The Duck, you will be granted diplomatic protection. Starfleet’s mission is exploration. We are eager to learn about your species. We are only armed for defense.

HOWARD: Sure. Like my lawyer.

PICARD: What can you tell me about your civilization?

HOWARD: It's regret-based.

PICARD: Every culture has value.

HOWARD: Does that mean I get free drinks and nobody judging my life choices?

PICARD: We only serve synthetic alcohol on this ship.

HOWARD: Then this is the most depressing. spaceship I’ve ever been on. And I once rode in space in a washing machine.

PICARD: Nevertheless, Starfleet will show you the same courtesy we grant to all new species.

HOWARD: Great. Then I’d like asylum, a shuttle, and for you to tell the Klingon I wasn’t calling his mother a hat.

PICARD: Mister The Duck, apparently you value candor a great deal.

HOWARD: That’s the perk. You have to be polite. I don’t.

PICARD: …You are enjoying this.

HOWARD: I have never been treated with this much respect in my life. I plan to abuse it.
