About My Synesthesia synesthesia effecting daily life
hello! i’m 20 and have a neurological condition that effects just about everything in my body. i experience synesthesia so such an extreme degree it effects my daily life, also schooling.
TLDR: i have extreme synesthesia that effects my day to day life, anyone else have this?
this is quite simple but in highschool i was insanely bad at geography because certain countries had certain colors that meant the went certain places. example, i didn’t know spain was in europe until 9th grade because spain is such a red country (yes the flag is red, that’s unrelated) so in my mind, that put it down in south america. italy was also in south america, i can’t exactly remember my struggle ones anymore cause it was a while ago.
i sat in front of my mail box for 2 minutes before i could find mine. the number was 213, i was actually looking for the color yellow on the mail box. before i realized, its a number not a color. there are many many more examples but its too much to explain, but it has genuinely effected my ability to do certain things.
it’s been frustrating recently while trying to talk about music. because i see music in such abstract ways that no one else can understand. i can physically see the breakdown of the notes, it moves in a certain shape and certain colors push the song into certain shapes. ex is the picture ive attached.
scars by akugetsu has a hopeful inspirational tone. i tried to explain that i really enjoy that part of the song, and had to explain it was a cream line pushing the song upwards. the shape is 3d, it’s a slope angled away from me, imagine rainbow road from mario, it kinda looks like that??
basically wondering if other people experience it to this extreme, there are many instances where it effects me i just can’t put them all down. lemme know
