General Question morning energy supplement for steady energy and gut support

Upvotes

my doctor said my gut health might be why my energy is all over the place i mean i knew they were connected but i didnt realize how much until she explained it. i lean on coffee way too much and by 3pm im crashing plus my digestion has been off lately which she said is probably stress related. she suggested probiotics and maybe adaptogens for stress then i found a few options that combine greens, probiotics and ashwagandha in one powder which sounds perfect cause i hate taking a bunch of pills every morning

but theres so many out there im getting overwhelmed. some are just greens, some have probiotics but no adaptogens, others taste awful from what ive read. i want something that helps with both energy and gut stuff without the jitters. anyone found something that covers all this in one? something thats drinkable and not like lawn clippings?

46 years old, need help?

Upvotes

I am 46-year-old male who is starting to run and work out some. I wanna get back in better shape. I’m not overweight, but could stand to lose 10 pounds or so. I need advice on what supplements/stacks to take as I move forward. I prefer liquid over pills but will take pills also. I avoid gummies altogether.

I have heard that a multivitamin is good, but what brand should I use? Also I’ve been advised from a friend to take garlic, biotin, D3 & K2, and fish oil. I start every morning with optimize minerals so I get all of my minerals I think. Any help or suggestions is welcomed.

Recommendations How do I get what I want from my doctor?

Upvotes

For months I’ve had terrible trouble sleeping, have been constantly exhausted, out of it, unable to focus or concentrate, having vision problems, low mood, low motivation, irritable, among other mental and physical problems.

I’m a 21 year old man living a healthy lifestyle and there’s just no reason I should be coming apart at the seams like this unable to do the most basic human functions, like sleeping for example. I surmise there must be something physically off with me right now and I’ve done all I can to fix it, experimenting with different supplements, altering my routine, doing this or doing that, for months nothing has worked. I’ve seen multiple different doctors who all just try to push some weird prescription on me no matter what I do or say to them I always just get stuck with no help and a script for some weird mild altering drug or random muscle relaxer or something. It’s stupid and it’s bs and I just need help and for all the time, money, and effort I’ve dumped into seeing doctors and blindly testing supplements I have absolutely nothing to show for it and I still feel like crap.

I think there has to be something and instead of helping me figure it out, doctors just want to give me drugs, so I have to figure it out myself. I made a doctor take my blood a few months ago and I don’t know what test they ran but nothing came back out of the ordinary. I have no idea what the problem is and blindly trying supplements hasn’t helped. I need a medical professional to help me and given my previous experiences with that in the last 12 months I feel as though I need to give my doctor VERY specific instructions as to what I want him to do/what tests I want done in order to find my solution. Does anyone have any experience with this or any advice? I’m at the end of my rope here and I know there’s a solution but for the life of me I can’t get anyone to help me.

Anyone using ashwagandha long term? Curious about cycling or just taking it daily

Upvotes

Been taking ashwagandha for about four months straight, KSM66, 600mg in the evening. The stress reduction and sleep improvement showed up pretty fast, maybe two weeks in. But I keep seeing conflicting stuff about whether you should cycle it or if taking it daily indefinitely is fine.

Some people say 8 weeks on, 24 weeks off. Others say they've been on it daily for years with no issues. I genuinely can't find a clear answer, and the studies I've come across mostly run 812 weeks, so there's not much longterm data to go on.

The reason I'm even questioning it is that the effects feel slightly blunted compared to when I first started. Not gone, just not as strong. Could be tolerance, could be that the initial jump felt bigger because things were worse back then. Hard to tell.

Anyone who's been using it for 6 months or more: did you cycle it, and did that actually change anything? Also curious if switching brands or forms made a difference for anyone who felt like it started working less well.

If you stopped magnesium glycinate tomorrow, would you notice a difference?

Upvotes

I’m curious because magnesium is one of those supplements where the effects can be quite subtle. It’s not usually something where you suddenly feel a dramatic change when you start taking it.

For those who have taken a break from magnesium glycinate, did you notice anything was different, or did you feel pretty much the same without it?

Recommendations carbs really helps keep my muscles full by storing store glycogen to them, problem is once i reduce carbs, my glycogen drops so quickly.

Is there anything I can take that will prevent my glycogen from dropping so quickly without having to eat so many carbs? My muscles get so flat when I reduce my carb intake just for a couple days. It's like I have to continuously eat carbs to make my muscles look full.

Experience I built a tool to figure out if my supplements are actually doing anything

I created a website that might be helpful to some of you.

I’ve been taking supplements for a few years now, and every time I started something new I’d write down notes about how I felt or whether I noticed any benefits. After a while, those notes became a complete mess.

So I vibecoded a simple web app called Signals.
The idea is simple: instead of guessing whether a supplement is actually doing anything, you can run a personal experiment. You pick a supplement, track a few things that matter to you (like energy, sleep, focus, recovery, etc.) with a quick daily check-in, and after 30, 60, or 90 days you get a summary of your own data.

It’s not trying to tell you that a supplement works or doesn’t work. It just helps you answer the question:
“Did I actually notice a meaningful difference while taking it?”

I realized I spend hundreds (probably thousands) of euros on supplements every year, but if someone asked me which ones genuinely made a noticeable difference for me, I’d struggle to answer anything besides magnesium.
That’s exactly the problem I’m trying to solve.
I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Is this something you’d actually use? What features would make it genuinely useful for you?

It’s completely free so feel free to test it:

What happens if you don't cycle on/off adaptogen?

I have started holy basil regimen to fix my 3am wakeup which I suspect to be due to high cortisol. So far it definitely has made a notice able difference. However I know a lot of people recommend cycling adaptogens on and off every so often. What happens if you don't? Anyone who just takes it everyday can chime in with their own experience either on holy basil or ashwaghanda and not doing the cycling?

NR - physically and mentally sedated?

So, I started using some NR I had lying around (250mg per cap). First 2 days @ 375mg I was so exhausted I was basically dragging myself around (I have to travel around the city at work to work sites). I thought to myself, this is what nurse ratchet was handing out to Jack Nicholson. To note - I am an extremely healthy (far as I know), athletic and primed individual. I get great sleep, am lean and overall strutting w the peace of Christ.

So, after the 2nd day, I thought that at the cellular level maybe things are happening, right? Even if fatigue, something has to have dramatically changed my energy level. So, day 3 I dropped to 1 cap @ 250mg and I've been fine all day. Increase in focus and energy??? Idk, feeling how I was prior to poppin those 350mg on mon and tues. And no, before someone chimes, I didnt have an illness or "virus".

Dr. Huberman recommended based on animal or rodent studies, but he's a jacked up testosterone trt monkey and he takes 500mg a day. So for me, someone w a more basketball, baseball, football body, I figured why not run 1 cap i stead of 2.

I will try and update here if I continue the run and see what plays out on 1 cap and maybe if good ill nuke myself w 2 and see if I get all run-down.

Also, im only 1 smalllll cup of coffee deep and the 2nd midday may send me bonkers (or nahh). Lets see!

Recommendations Any Liquid Vitamin D3 rec's since Thorne got bought out :-(?

Hi all,

Any recommendations for Liquid/Drops Vitamin D3 without K2 (not good for people with G6PD)? My go to was Thorne Vitamin D3 but ever since they got bought out by L Catterton (LVMH has a 40% stake in them!) the quality has gone down. The old bottle had 600 doses in a bottle (each dose was 1000 IUs). The new version has 30 doses (each dose is 4000 IUs). The new version is 4 TIMES more expensive per dose and you have to replace the bottle 5 TIMES as often.

Recommendations Opinions please

25years old, moderately active lifestyle (3.5hrs of outdoor physical activity per day)

I don’t eat as many vegetables as I should, about one serving per day, but every day I have raw goat milk with ghee, at least 1 cup raw oats with goat milk, and drink 2L water. Open to dietary suggestions.

Supplements:
Choline, creatine (5g), ubiquinol+PQQ, B complex, and magnesium.

I’m hoping to address joint pain, fatigue and brain fog. I’m looking for recommendations on supplements to help with OCD?

General Question Calf cramps with creatine

I just read a comment that indicated that calf cramps may result from inadequate hydration while taking creatine. I take creatine and have had some severe cramps in my calves and feet - and have been told I should increase my water intake. Is there evidence supporting the link between creatine and calf cramps from inadequate hydration?

Is superfood powder as good as the real thing?

My 9 yr old daughter can't eat vegetables due to ARFID so she drinks a mixture that contains a bunch of naturally derived vitamins & minerals obtained from veggies.. Is it as good as actual vegetables? Her blood work came back "perfect" & her fibre comes from other sources.

Our GP is still trying to get her to eat vegetables though claiming they're better. I'll continue to encourage her but in the meantime I'm assuming all's good?

General Question Thoughts on the caffeine and L-theanine ratio in Neurogum?

I've been reading more about caffeine and L-theanine since they seem to be one of the more researched nootropic combinations. A lot of people say the combo gives you the alertness from caffeine with fewer jitters but the recommended ratios seem to vary.
I recently came across Neuro gum which uses caffeine and L-theanine in gum instead of a capsule or drink and it got me wondering about the science behind it rather than the product itself.
Questions for people who know this stuff better:
Is there an ideal caffeine to L-theanine ratio based on the research?
Have you noticed any real difference between caffeine + L-theanine and plain coffee?
