Do I get an award for posting the 1000000th Shiv hate post?

Just finished my rewatch of the show. When I first watched through the show in 2021-22, I came away thinking that pretty much everyone in the show is a scumbag. Shiv really struck me as the worst though because of all her backbiting, entitlement, and blatant disrespect to her husband.

And I tried, I mean really tried to have a more nuanced opinion in my rewatch. Kendall’s a bipolar drug addict who should be nowhere running a company, and Roman’s a lost puppy, but these two don’t consistently treat their partner like absolute garbage the entire show.

A note on Ken though, cause he’s not innocent whatsoever: Rava does say in season 1 how Kendall snorted a line off the kids iPad, and he also threatened a court order when they were leaving the city in season 4, but overall he at least tried with his ex wife. In the final episode you can also see exactly why he shouldn’t run the company: he’s an arrogant jackass that thinks he entitled to his dad’s company and can bully Rome to get his way. Genuinely insane he says he false memoried the death of the waiter kid.

Back to Shiv. Over and over, Shiv says shit to Tom that shows she sees him like a servant whipping boy. She wants an open marriage on their wedding night, is fine with Tom going to jail, fine with Lukas potentially firing Tom, says to his face she doesn’t love him, and drinks champagne in his face while she’s carrying his child.

On top of all this, she’s so entitled that she spills the beans to the Pierces that she’ll be the next CEO, and then can’t even realize Lukas is playing her in the final season. Tom tells her that it’s going to be him, and her response is “fuck you, he went for an empty fucking suit!? Good fucking luck.”

When I first watched the show, I was somewhat disappointed that Kendall lost. But considering how the family and especially Shiv treated Tom, him winning is the perfect ending.

Mine has to be Kendall’s press conference at the end of Season 2. The buildup the music the silence before he speaks and then that final bombshell… I genuinely had to pause the episode.

What’s your pick? No “best episode” just one specific scene that made you realize this show was on another level. I’m curious which moments stuck with everyone the most.

Kendall is definitely David Ellison and the utter incompetence and stupidity regarding the lawsuits and merger is exactly something straight out of the show. It's unbelievable to see shit like this creep out into the real world. It just shows how great Jesse Armstrong is at writing real life.

I feel the strong hand of Fate in many points in the plot of the show, so part of me essentially thinks "there is no version of Logan who would have recused himself, nor any version of Logan who would not have found someway to beat Kendall's attempts at a mutiny, etc." But even along those lines, I often wonder if some other vestige of Logan's influence would have made it in even in a world where, for whatever reason, he hadn't been there to directly intimidate them. Roman specifically. Like if he perhaps felt unwell that day and called in instead, like Illona did. Do you think Roman would have gone through with voting against Logan in that case, or still chickened out? Furthermore, do you think that a successful vote of no confidence might have just fallen flat afterwards, considering how impervious Logan seems to be to laws and regulations otherwise?

I learned today that in 1969, Ted Kennedy had a car accident which resulted in the drowning (or suffocation) of his passenger, which he failed to report until 10 hours later. Very similar to Kendall's accident. Probably not news to some of you, but I thought it was interesting to read about how this played out in real life.
