News Steam now lets you switch between even MORE accounts
Before this update, the limit was 5, but now it looks like it's 8.
Edit: I tested it, and turns out the limit is 8, before I thought it was 7 because the system automatically added 2 accounts that I didn't have there before.

This is useful for the Steam Machine in particular.
It's not uncommon for living room consoles to be used by everyone in a household and visitors. This is just a good feature to help it realize its purpose.

how not?

some app the most common one is ASF (this does not farm game case but card by "launching" the game)
everything is done with an API on steam
for cs case I think you need to be in game so just reimplements the game network protocol and you can "play" without having the game launched

LMAOOO, reminds me back when TF2 iding was a thing. After awhile, someone came out with an idling program that 'logged you into a server' via command prompt. There was even colored letters depending on what you got.
After about like... half a year to a year; they yanked it and told people to not do it again or theyre get vacced.

Bot farmers have more convenient account management system than Steam could offer. Just imagine operating 1000 accounts with official Steam client...

yeah no sht, cs2 already filled with farming bots in comp, deathmatch, etc. they have their own farming panel for armory passes / weekly cases.

u/Us3fullness 9h ago
I have 3 accounts with different regions each. Mostly because I’ve been moving out between countries several times and didn’t want to loose said regions

I didn't even think that there would be a meta game in Steam Account Creation.

Cool, I guess, but I wish they fixed some other stuff instead. For example, achievement timestamps are still in 12 hour format even if you set Steam to 24 hour format.

It's at least 8 or prabably more because my icons are even smaller than yours, it seems to scale.

u/beealeaf 9h ago
I tried adding more, and it turns out the limit is 8. After reaching that limit, one account disappeared.
5
u/Knight-Jack 9h ago
I... didn't even know you can do that. How does that work? Can I share my games with others this way? Are all the games shared between users?
3
u/beealeaf 9h ago
No, you can just switch between accounts without entering the login details every time. When you want to switch accounts, you just press "Change account" instead of logging out, and this screen will appear.
If you want to share your games with family, you need to create or join a Steam Family. After that, you will be able to play each other's games.

"the system automatically added 2 accounts that I didn't have there before." no, it didn't/shouldn't... - do you know those accounts? who they are? or are they random?
i'd question the others who have access to the computer about them....

u/beealeaf 8h ago
Those are my accounts, but before this update, the limit was 5, and I already had 5 other accounts added. So it just added accounts that I haven't used in some time.

u/Tank_stealer 6h ago
Does this mean that family sharing may also increase, so that everyone has access to the same games?

u/Responsible_Food584 6h ago
this is actually goated cuz i got 7 accounts in a game i play i need to switch daily to complete tasks, i hated having to remove 2 and login 2 every day

Why would you ever need this
17
u/boglets 10h ago
When multiple ppl share the same pc, or have multiple accounts for different reasons eg ; games
6
u/TLo__ 10h ago
7 people sharing one pc seems a bit far fetched, but games for accounts I can see. Weird to me people don’t just have it all on one account, but that’s just me
7
u/LovelyOrangeJuice 10h ago
yeah, sounds all wonky. I guess it can make sense if a household shares a steam machine though

Steam Machine is probably the reason. It's designed for a console like experience in your living room. People coming and going, using their own account, is much more common on a console than a PC.

It's a brand new, popular thread bro, I just happened to click on it same as you. Would be very impressive if someone got their friends to brigade you within like 2 minutes of you making your comment.

Nice, sometimes buying a game on a account is like a couple bucks. Nice to give it a real try before buying the game on my main steam
18
u/Steven2597 10h ago
I dont understand this line of thinking. Why buy it on a 2nd account to then buy it again on the main account?
2
u/AtomicBombSquad 9h ago
If you're not sure you want to drop full price on a game and it's the type of game that takes longer than 2 hours (the length of the return window) to get going in earnest. Buying an account with just that game preinstalled basically acts as an unlimited length demo, and often costs 75% less than getting it from Steam or a key site for your main account. For some people, throwing away a little bit of money to avoid throwing away a lot of money makes a lot of sense.

No wonder that why player keep pay more for less with buying on one and then bying on another account. And they blame why copro are shit and scammy when player enable this buying on two account .

u/PokerSvk 9h ago edited 9h ago
You buy the account that has the game on it. For like 20% of the price of the game. You have no idea how that game got into that account, could be stolen card etc.
Then you buy it for your main account in case the 2nd account with the game gets banner or has that game revoked/refunded
Edit:
Downvoted for explaining, love it6
u/Steven2597 9h ago
Why not just buy it for your main account, play under 2 hours and refund it if you don't like it?
1
u/PokerSvk 9h ago edited 9h ago
Its not about liking it or not. You might like it but dont want to/cant spend that much money on game for example.
Idk every reason one might have to buy an account and not a game.
Ive bought one account with game on it because i didnt read what iam even buying (i was 15)

I remember playing Dragon Age Inquisition a while ago. Just finishing the "tutorial" took me about 4 hours, and that is just to get past the intro cutscenes to the open world, not test mechanics.
Arknights Endfield is a free game, but it took me 4 evenings and about 8 hours just to get to the actual factory gameplay which was the part I was most interested in.
2 hours for a $5 game is enough to check it out, but I won't feel bad about losing $5. 2 hours for a $60 AAA game is often barely enough to finish tutorial, and I'm definitely gonna be pissed if I don't like it.
What games used to do in the past was releasing demo versions that show a fragment from the middle part of the game with no plot spoilers but all gameplay spoilers. Then they decided it's better to pay for good reviews but not let players see for themselves.

Because if the game is good, I have no problem paying full price for the game.
If I can get the game for a couple bucks and get to play it for 5/6 hours and still wanna play more, I'll get it on my main.

Wow, you hid your avatars so no-one can hack into your accounts because of that 😁

Probably an improvement for desktop mode (which was limited to 5 accounts), but regression for big picture mode which no more allow me to choose between my 11 accounts.

Yeah, I noticed this recently. I wonder if it's a cube-related quality of life improvement, since you'd expect a bunch of different people to be playing games on the same television.
