Steam opens pretty quick for me and it feels responsive and there's some sort of visual feedback that I clicked something. It's certainly not perfect but on Epic I'll click a game and it just sits there and I have no idea if it's loading or what. Xbox launcher is similar.

This is a dumb post. Adding it on Steam still requires Epic to run so you are essentially running 2 launchers. The only way it would run without Epic is if the game doesn't have DRM, but then you could just run the exe directly instead of adding it to Steam, which doesn't provide any benefits like cloud saves, achievements, etc.

Running it through Steam gives Steam controller support, which is a remarkably amazing feature. In fact when Goat Simulator 3 launched as an Epic exclusive, the devs were telling people to add it to Steam as a non-Steam game when people were struggling with their controllers.

There is so much cool shit you can do with Steam controller support. Strongly recommend looking into it.

This typically happens if the game launches with admin permissions. You should be able to go into the properties of the exe, under compatibility, and make it not launch as admin. Tends to fix it right up.

Step 3: Claim product through store.

Step 4: Install through the multi-store launcher of Heroic Launcher.

Epic accused steam of being a monopoly, and "wanting to compete to show there are alternatives", and then immediately started tossing money around to buy exclusive rights to games.

Steam is a monopoly there's no claim to be had, whether intentional or not gamers are autistic as shit about Steam, GOG has managed to speak in because they took the retro-route - Epic tried to corner a piece of the market to get started competition is good for us not bad but people don't see that as it stands for gamers and devs steam can do whatever they want because they are unlikely to lose their fanbase and it's too big of a market for games to not want to launch of steam, for example Steam take a 30% cut of all sales and Epic 12% - this changes depending on revenue though (Steam eventually takes a 20% whilst Epic don't take anything for the first mil)

I like Steam as much as the next guy (18 years 1000+ Games) but to deny the truth is ludicrous - Also yeah Epic launcher isn't great but Steam has been going for 22 years give Epic time I hope they can compete.

You can argue that they are a 'functional monopoly' because they are so dominant, but the existence of other means to buy games (GoG, Epic, Battle.net, Microsoft etc.) means that they are not in any way an actual monopoly. Unlike consoles, PC gaming is not a closed shop, which is what a monopoly would be. XBOX and PlayStation stores are monopolies on their specific platforms. Steam is not. My buddy lost his epic account.

When it first came out it didnt have a cart, so you had to make purchases one at a time.

His credit card thought it was fraud after the 4th or 5th purchases, and canceled the transaction. And then refunded all the other transactions.

He went to log in the next day and was told his account was banned. Contacted support, and they basically told him there is nothing we can do. Buy the games again and tell your bank not to refund them.

A couple things. First. I kickstarted a game with the expectation of getting it on Steam when it released, which was part of the Kickstarter campaign that was promised to me. And then Epic bought exclusivity rights to this game for one year. Which soured me since that is not what I paid for. I understood why the developer did it. I didn’t hold it against them. But it made me not want to use Epic ever and I think it soured me enough subconsciously that besides playing a prerelease of the game, I still haven’t played it since it came out on Steam.

Second. Back when all of that was happening there were a lot of rumors about Epic installing a bunch of shady stuff on PCs to collect data. Another thing that bothered me is that Tencent (a game company ran by a foreign government) owns a pretty big chunk of Epic. That coupled with the fact that there were rumors about Epic collecting data, made me trust them less after my opinion towards them was already soured.

I will never willingly use the Epic Store. I will begrudgingly use their launcher if it was inserted into one of the games I have purchased without my knowledge. But. I really don’t like or trust them. The only PC stores I want to use are Steam or GOG.

Also though, steam has so much functionality that gives a ton of flexibility to how you can play. Like steam input manages compatibility with basically any controller you want, with full remapping capabilities. And big picture mode is a must-have if you're playing on a tv or handheld where a controller is your primary input method. I could list off at least a dozen more pieces of functionality that make steam an incredibly useful platform, where epic by comparison really doesn't have much beyond buying and launching games.

I use playnite with the store add-ons. All my games from all stores in a single library. Only Steam, Ubisoft, and EA have their clients running when I install, update, or play a game from the respective store. EGS, GOG, and Amazon all have their games downloaded, updated, and played with Playnite only.

I've ended up buying a couple of things I own on Epic again on Steam because I never open it, so it has to update and takes fucking forever to load in general. So I'd rather just pay an extra few quid to own it on Steam at that point

I’d rather not have my Steam library turn into a visual mess of games that were not bought through Steam (you basically have to rename them, then apply custom art/screenshots, etc) just to get it to look like it belongs in your library instead of some no-name branded shat-out code 🤡
