Are you doing it with DLC? If you are, stop. Start with the Irish campaign and no DLC. Only add DLC later on once you've mastered the basics.

It looks more complicated than it is, once things click you'll be playing an entire day wondering what the fuck happened and why your sister is also your cousin and wife.

Funny thing about CK3, it doesnt play like a Grand Strategy. Its basically an RPG Visual Novel map game. 90% of what you are doing in CK3 is roleplaying as a character. Combat is just a little more complex than the board game Risk. A stark difference between Europa and Victoria which do lean more on the grand strategy 4X type.

Yeah, there is a lot going on under the hood but it doesn't really matter. Like, there's a whole combat simulation rock/paper/scissors thing going on in battles but just make sure you have more and don't attack across rivers and you'll probably be fine.

CK3 combat seems more complex than it is. In a battle literally the only thing that matters is your special units. If you have strong men at arms and champions with a good commander you can destroy armies with 10 times as many units. All the strategy is before you get into a battle.

That being said, the game isn't simple. Its not hard once you understand the mechanics, but theres A LOT of mechanics. As a new player you genuinely won't know how to even play the game for probably like 20 hours.

On the bright side, once you figure it out theres several thousand hours worth of content to do.

I came to paradox for europa Universalis, had quite a bit of fun with ck3 too. I tried Stella is and found the initial colonisation period fun but after that it felt so so so boring. tbf i have only played for about 20 hours but I don't see the appeal

It's like most grand strategy 4x games. The beginning is definitely the most fun for most people (myself included). Exploring, discovering, and establishing borders is just so damn satisfying.

But, to get past the early game you need to play it a whole lot more in order to figure out the things you need to work on to advance, and the dangers you need to prepare for. There's a lot you can do whether you play a warmonger, or a peaceful united federation of planets 

Stellaris has its ups and downs and not every DLC is great, but the whole experience is unlike any other game in the genre, in my opinion. I think I've been hooked for life on this damn game. I love it so much.

Making custom ships for a fleshed out fleet is very fun! Also meeting a neighbour that's way stronger than you and using diplomacy or attrition wars to buy enough time until you can surpass them feels great!

End game is also fun because something big happens in the whole galaxy and while you're advanced at that point, you never feel sufficiently advanced.

That one's painful, too. I did get a couple DLCs for Sims 4 when they released then took a very long break from it. A couple years ago I looked into how much I would spend to get all the DLCs and my fingers hurt from all the calculating. Turns out I like the house building aspect the most anyway, so I've replaced the game with House Flipper and have been glued to that for a few years now. Their DLCs are far fewer and much more pleasing to me.

Nah Total War is different. All the DLC’s add is new campaigns and new units. No mechanics are locked behind DLC like in Paradox, so you can just play any campaign as a new player and get the full experience. And you get SO MANY campaigns to play in the base game

Atleast you don't have to own heist dlcs to play them, just join other players and be at it. And neither do you need weapon dlcs, even Basegame provides enough meta slop to not struggle at all, so the only reason to buy anything after Legacy pack which is like, 15 bucks on sales for 70% of games content, aka hundreds and thousands of hours of replayability, is if you want even more guns variety, some drip or want to host heists yourself.

Also game is STILL being updated by a 3rd party dev team, Sidetracked games, which consists of people who spent years modding PD2, so they know their shit. In last few months they already did more than Star piss did in last few years, and just recently they released beta branch where game moved to 64 bit (insanely great for performance, stability and modding potential (which also already being fixed to work on 64bit, with Sidetracked games direct help too)) and filesize reduction from 86 to 34 gigs!! No longer do you need 2nd SSD to keep it on your computer.

I'm good with the SCS model, ATS is a ten year old game and ETS2 is fourteen. The team just gets bigger and the expansions more ambitious. The Nordic Horizons map they just dropped for ETS2 is absurdly high quality. If they need to charge $18 for a gorgeous map, that's also part of a larger effort to being the older parts of the map into parity with the newer ones — and for the studio to remain independent and not get sucked up by Zenimax or something — I'm fucking down to pay to keep the lights on.

To be fair as a Train Sim fan I am only interested in certain routes, for me I like the North American ones and don't bother with all the European and other region routes. So while there are lots of routes to choose from and thus lots of DLC, I think most Train Sim fans just buy the routes and locos they're interested in.

Some games feel incomplete if you don't have all the DLCs such as American Truck Sim and ETS2 not having all the countries and states to seamlessly drive through would feel incomplete, but personally I've never felt that way with Train Sim World.

Yeah, and the recent expansion packs were a huge improvement to the old ones. They are shifting away from the $40 expansion packs to $20-$5 smaller packs. I'd say 75% are purely cosmetic items and can be skipped.

Sims 4 is really bloated. It's a super old game (2017 iirc) that they have been tacking additional gameplay onto without massively overhauling the base code. The more DLCs you have, the buggier it tends to be.

Its not like they really can make it easier to build, its a game where rotating parts is quite important and implementing that easily on keyboard would either require 2 rotation buttons and toggles or the 6 neatly sectioned of buttons 100% keyboards have (100% as in whole keyboards and not 50% or 75% designs). rotating things in 3 degrees is just not suited towards keyboards.

I got the deluxe edition on ps5 years back. I remembered enjoying it and got it fir $3 in tbe summer sale on Steam I have since decuded I will wait for an all dlc's sale before getting into the game again as I remember it feeling like every other menu told me stuff I couldn't do when playing on PS5

You're also not really "supposed" to buy all the DLC for a sim like that. Car, train, and plane sims have a lot of DLC to fill the multiple different niches that their sim can cover not because they expect every player to buy ever piece of DLC. Most serious players will find their niche and then only buy the stuff that fits that niche. You also don't buy it all at once, you buy it as you "need" it(when you get bored of the stuff you currently have again). 

Like I'm into train sims, and I'm not going out there trying to buy every DLC for every type of train and every route I stick to mainly commuter trains in the US. I'm buying a few hundred dollars of DLC over several years, not dropping the full nearly $4000 of DLC for Train World 6 day one.

Don't forget the base game roll out has some really good factions. You rack up several hundred hours on just the base game and free content. Buying the other 2 base games gives you 2 different feeling games and different campaigns

The total war sub gets similar complaints a lot so if you want good value next sale buy the base games for warhammer 1 and 2 then just buy the factions you like or who interest you let's buy little bits and not like 400 dollars. The base games go on higher sales than the dlc and if you sign into their account thing you can claim free legendary lords heroes etc. But yeah its so weird to see.
