I'm an older teen interested in going into the arts when I'm older and was interested if anywhere teaches older teens art I'm talking like the fundamentals, portraits, gesture, land/seascapes, ect ect ect yet I haven't found any let alone any my age and it's getting frustrating I have a hard time learning online so that's not an option for me I fine with any media I just want to learn even more then just my school lessons

I’m on a total nostalgia kick, and somehow swim team rivalries from the early 90s in State College are part of that! I grew up maybe two blocks from State High, and thus spent most of my summer months at Welch Pool. Welch Pool was pretty awesome at that time, it was the 90s and there was some local radio station that would play all the trending grunge or whatever (they had these comedy people that my dad hated with a passion in the morning) that the people who let you into Welch would blast, but that’s beside the point.

It was all about SWIM TEAM. Welch, being a public pool, was already at a disadvantage. But we somehow swam above our pay grade, and had the best kit which was black and gold (Steeler’s homage?) with lighting bolts. We used to absolutely smoke the kids from Park Forest pool, it wasn’t even a competition. But there was this private pool, Science Park, and those kids were the worst! Swimming against them was a fight for your life, I‘m pretty sure they had a two to one coach to swimmer ratio. You’d be competing in a medley relay and they would have a different adult on each side of the pool shouting stroke advice each lap, bonkers level of investment. I think all the Science Park kids ended up with business degrees from Wharton and are now under house arrest for insider trading.

The best part though was out of town swim meets. We used to go to absolutely out there parts of the state. There were swim teams in Altoona of all places! In between heats you could just go hang with kids from wherever, I remember getting Gameboy Legend of Zelda tips from some absolute savant of a gamer during maybe two matches in a summer and I never saw the kid again. Dude was Google before Google. Hope he is well kid!

Anyway, fun summers in State College in the early 90s. Any Welch / Park Forest / Science Park kids still holding it down out there?

... lest I forget, the Penn State outdoor pool HIGH DIVE. That ten meter monstrosity was bragging rights for the entire school year. No one would forward dive off that except the bravest, it was all feet first pencils.

Some of you may remember our efforts over the past few years with the Centre County Highway Revolt (project video here) to bring rail service to Penn State not only for intercity travel but also local commuting. In the shortest summary possible: existing government-owned tracks to within two miles of campus and historic settlement patterns clustering walkable housing around these rail alignments make shortline rail service from Altoona and Tyrone to Bellefonte and State College not only viable, but a low-subsidy, high-economic-impact, and tantalizingly possible transportation project.

Well, as it so happens, we're apparently not the only ones who think that way! The Centre County Metropolitan Planning Organization (CCMPO) has started a rail access study, beginning with a month-long public comment period until August 17th. Please visit their project webpage and fill out their survey in favor of providing environmentally-friendly car-free transportation to Centre County!

Remember! A single DMU gets the same gas mileage as a large SUV, but can carry over 200 people; DMUs are forward-compatible with electrification and produce significantly less particulate pollution than roads; train tracks take a fraction of the space and material cost of a highway; according to PA's own published budgets, a mile of rail is cheaper to both build and maintain than a mile of rail; and research shows that any dollar spent on rail has a much higher economic benefit than were it spent on roads. A project like this is important for everything from climate change to preserving rural agriculture and forests; improving cost of living and benefitting small town economies and heritage; and even reducing tax burden and improving local tourism! And, with what the SCAC highway is costing now, I think you could even build a high-speed rail tunnel from State College to Tyrone and still come in under the budget of one measly 8-mile open-air car sewer. So please, fill out the CCMPO's survey!!!!

Apartments.com is a great tool, but quite useless when it comes to the State College area. Listings will say “Apartment” or “Studio” and mean room-share.

Must haves:

1. Allow dogs.
2. In-building laundry.
3. Parking (I have a motorcycle and a car).
4. A leasing office that doesn’t use Ai to answer calls.

Nice to have:

1. Studio preferably. Don’t want an unmanageably large place.

Must not have:

1. Any relation to Berger Communities. They have crap customer service, their facilities are always having some kind of issue, and Ai answers all their calls.

If anyone remembers the bar/restaurant Liberty that was downtown from like 2014-2018, my wife loved that place, and her absolute favorite thing was their charcuterie board. They had little bread slices, jam, and tons of choices for meats and soft/hard cheeses

Looking into going out for her birthday soon, and I’m wondering if there’s anything out there that comes close. We’ve tried the ones at American Ale House (expensive, super tiny, came with silly little crackers) and Happy Valley Brewing Co (better, but not as good as the Liberty one in her memory).

We're rolling into town on a Sunday evening with no other plan other than to find somewhere to eat and get dessert at Berkey Creamery.

I am currently off of bar food so no wings or sandwiches with fries or giant pretzels type menu. I saw one taco place that looked great until I saw the proteins for tacos and was underwhelmed; definitely need at least al pastor and chorizo options.

Hey all, well the title says it all but I'm looking to find a group of people to play board games with, and hopefully mahjong too.

A little about me: I'm 30 (M), and I'm into card games of all sorts, board games, and mahjong (riichi, HK, Taiwanese). I used to play a ton of mahjong back in undergrad, but I haven't found a group since then and honestly miss it.

I'm looking for someone to take over my lease at Park Forest Apartments, lease starts early to mid August and runs for a full year.

I've lived in the apartment for few years and I've always found it good, I've just had another living situation offer after I signed the lease.

It's a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath ground floor apartment with a small concrete patio. All utilities are included in the rent except electricity, which has been a steady $20 - $30 a month. The complex is pet friendly, and rather quiet. Right on the N CATA line, on a streak of bike paths to downtown and campus.

Rent would be about $1250 a month. Specific move-in date would be worked out with the office staff when they approve you, it's not a direct sublease with me or anything just taking over my existing lease.
