Very common FAQs / removed topics

  • [insert item here] showed up on my farm, what is it? It could be a a few different items that are relatively rare but have a high enough spawn rate that they are included in our removed topics. Check out our list of removed topics here

Game updates

  • What was in the last update?
See release notes for PC, for consoles, and for mobile.

See also a table of which version and features each platform has.

  • Are future releases planned?
A Stardew Valley 1.7 update is currently in the works! No information about a release date or new content is currently available.

  • Does every platform get the same content/updates?
Mostly yes. Updates are developed for Linux/Mac/Windows first, then ported to other platforms. There are customizations for each platform (like tap to move on mobile), but otherwise content is identical across all platforms. See also a table of which version and features each platform has.

The exceptions are PS Vita (which won't get any further content updates due to platform limitations), and Android/iOS (which will continue getting all updates, but doesn't fully support multiplayer.

  • Is Stardew Valley on XBox GamePass?

Stardew Valley is on XBox GamePass as of December 2, 2021. See here for details.

Multiplayer

  • How does multiplayer work?
    See Multiplayer on the wiki.

  • Is crossplay supported?
All PC players can play together, whether they're on Linux/Mac/Windows or GOG/Steam and crossplay is supported between mobile and PC. Console crossplay isn't supported.

  • Is split-screen supported?
Yep, split-screen was added on PC and console in Stardew Valley 1.5.

  • Will Android/iOS get multiplayer?
Multiplayer on Android and iOS is currently experimental and hidden by default. To unlock multiplayer you can follow this guide. Note: The Apple Arcade version (Stardew Valley+) does not have this feature.

  • Will the 1.6 update apply to my current game?
Yes! New updates always apply to existing saves.

Other

  • Can I transfer saves between devices?
You can transfer saves between Android, iOS, and PC (Linux/Mac/Windows).

Consoles unfortunately don't let you access the save files. The Switch version also has a different format that's not compatible with other platforms (the format used by other consoles is unknown).

  • My save got corrupted/won't load. What can I do?
On PC/mobile you can try loading your back-up save file! See here for instructions on how to do so!

Unfortunately, consoles don't allow access to save files so they cannot be recovered.

  • How do I take a screenshot of my full farm?
See this guide to taking farm screenshots.

  • If I buy the game on one platform, can I get it for free on a different one?
If you buy it on PC, you get the Linux + macOS + Windows versions; if you buy it on PS4, you get the PS4 + PS Vita versions. Otherwise each platform is a different edition with separate development, so you'll need to buy it again if you want it on a different platform.

  • Where can I report bugs?

    1. If you use mods, see the troubleshooting guide first.
    2. If you use mods and the bug disappears when playing without them (by running Stardew Valley.exe directly in your game folder), report it to r/SMAPI or see Modding:Help.
    3. If it happens without mods, report it in the official bug report forum, which the game developers keep an eye on.
  • How do I use or create mods?
See the pinned thread in r/SMAPI for more info, and feel free to ask questions in r/SMAPI!

Can anyone tell me how I might be able to fix this? My cat walked across my keyboard the other day and my energy bar ended up super tall. I've already tried messing with the UI zoom and settings in game. Me and the cat in question thank you in advance.

Design My perfect farm.

This is my first farm and I finally reached perfection.

I discovered Stardew Valley because it was one of the monthly free games included with my PlayStation subscription. I downloaded it because it looked simple and relaxing, basically the kind of game you play when you have nothing else to do.

I never expected to be so wrong. I discovered that it was an incredibly vast game, carefully crafted down to the smallest details and I had an amazing time playing it (although I have to admit that sometimes it was anything but relaxing).

It really pulled me in. Sometimes I stopped playing because I felt overwhelmed by all the things there were to do, but I always came back because I wanted to finish it.

A few days ago, I reached perfection on my birthday without even planning it that way.
This game will always have a special place in my heart and I also love its fan base and this subreddit.
But I still have a lot to do before I can platinum it, so this isn’t the end yet.

Bonus: the inside of my slime hutch. I hope you like it.

Achievement Get! After over 2000 hours of playtime I got my first prismatic shard from a fishing treasure chest. It's ten times rarer than an iridium band at a 1 in ~8300 chance.

I've played this game for at most 5yrs and have never seen this fairy on any of my playthroughs. I'm currently teaching my daughter how to play and her *very first night*, this cheeky little thing shows up. And immediately just grows her garden for her.

Discuss When you forget something on a new playthrough...

So I'm on late Spring Year 2,

Got to Floor 100 of Skull Cavern ages ago, expecting to get the Qi cutscene, and didn't. Googled it, was reminded you need the Secret Note first. Well that's annoying, but I'll get it eventually.

Played hours and hours. Still haven't got the note. Just now, suddenly realised I didn't have any notes...

I forgot you need to get the magnifying glass first.

Time to grind for Secret Notes I guess!

Achievement Get! I slept through Spring 1 year 2…

I spent days prepping to hit the ground RUNNING and in my haste I accidentally clicked to go right back to sleep when I woke up on the first day of spring! I had been prepping sprinklers, making fertilizer, hoarding seeds, etc. All to just sleep right through the first day hahaha.

This isn’t a major inconvenience but it was definitely very funny to me as I had spent so much time in winter mentally preparing. And of course you can’t just restart the day as it saves when you sleep, so I got to start this year with all my animals annoyed with me.

Just needed to tell people this happened lol, here’s to a profitable and successful growth year as I try to finish the community center

Discuss I always end up with way too many chests

Post image
116 Upvotes

Every save file, I tell myself I’ll stay organized. Then a few days later, I have chests everywhere, all full of random things because I might need them “someday.”
Where do you usually put all your chests? Do you keep them near your house, in a shed, or just wherever there’s space?

Discuss I love substitution cyphers :)

The moment I got this I translated it. I had no idea what a Junimo was at the time so I spent a lot of time scratching my head on the 3rd word lol. I also didn't know that the translation was just a couple of scenes away. By the way, the wizard provided translation and the actual text are actually slightly different! Turns out, being one with forest magic and having a knack for substitution cyphers are rather similar.

I always see those pretty farms and the house is placed somewhere else but why does it feel like a crime to move it 😭
