😠 Rant 😠 Bagel Freakout

Upvotes

Okay, so this happened like a week ago, and I kind of forgot about it until the customer came back in today and was being rude again, so I figured I'd share the bagel freakout incident at my store that pissed me off.

Basically, this guy orders a bagel with cream cheese. I'm cutting the bagel (as I normally would), and he shouts from the register, "Excuse me!" I turn around, and he says, "Did Starbucks ever train you how to cut a bagel?!" I kind of look at him, dumbfounded, because I have no idea why he's shouting this or even yelling at all in the first place. I tell him, "Yeah, I guess? But I'm just cutting the bagel like I normally would..."

He basically interrupts me and starts getting even louder and more mad: "You're cutting the bagel completely wrong! And you're getting the bagel everywhere!" Mind you, the only thing that's "everywhere" is the seeds from the everything bagel I'm actively cutting.

This is where my manager steps in because he can see that this guy is getting upset over literally nothing, and the customer proceeds to say, and I quote, "I come to Starbucks because I expect better service and employees than a Dunkin' Donuts."

Sir...what the fuck are you talking about? I'm literally standing here staring at him like he has 3 heads because I genuinely cannot understand why he was getting so upset, so angry, at the way I was cutting his bagel.

My manager tries to de-escalate by saying, "Would you like us to get you a fresh new bagel?" to which he responds, "You guys probobly don't even sell anything fresh here, probobly all frozen." UHHH yep, you're correct, so why tf are you here then at Starbucks if you have a problem with the food?

I genuinely cannot believe this happened to begin with, but I proceeded to make him a new bagel after my manager de-escalated the situation and whatnot, to which he was staring at me the entire time, and also to which I proceeded to cut the bagel the EXACT same way I did the first time, and he says, "Much better," when I hand him the bagel.

Istg, I don't understand how some people function in their day-to-day lives. It's beyond me that shit like this even happens, and how you can even show your face at the store again after basically being stared at like you're crazy by other partners.

And I still, to this day, have no idea why he was yelling over a bagel.

Shout out to the nice people who come to drive thru

I can be having such a bad day with back to back rude customers and it seriously means so much when someone sweet comes through. I had a lady yelling at me and the next car was a girl who pulled up and said “what was going on with her?!” And so I ranted and she totally had my back and we both complained and it was just so nice and saved my mood so fast. I also love when people compliment me it really brightens my day. Shout out to the sweethearts!!

Employee food and drink policy change

My friend works at Starbucks and was recently told that food and drink mark-outs must be consumed in store and can no longer be taken to go. So in order to use their free food/drinks, they have to consume it during breaks or stay at the store after their shift has ended. They can't even use to-go cups for drinks anymore and have to either bring their own personal cup or use the in-store drinkware. This seems obnoxiously restrictive and I'm surprised it hasn't been discussed on this sub since they were told this is a company-wide policy now. Have other stores experienced this?

For the first time in all my life I like fr hurt myself at work I literally was on the floor in the office calling Sedgwick because I strained my back really bad , my Gm said I’d have to use sick time even though I went to the hospital and they said I should take the week off , and I’d have to take a LOA. To me it kind of sucks because my Gm is saying I won’t get workers comp ( not that that really matters to me ) but I just don’t wanna use my sick hours . But it is what it is ig

Nervous about fall launch as newbie

Hi guys!
I’m not technically fully new to starbies since I’ve worked there before but I’ve never worked there during fall (or Christmas) launch

I’m restarting my employment with Starbies in the next few weeks and I’m so nervous about the PSL craze

My fiance worked for Starbies when fall menu launched last year and everyday he came home so tired and overwhelmed from it

I’m working at a store less busy than his was this time around but… is it as bad as people say? I’m so nervous

I Quit! I Quit and here’s why

At the time, I was working two jobs. During the day I worked with special needs kids, and I also worked at what was considered the busiest and highest-performing Starbucks store in our district (not bragging—that’s just how it was). Because of that, I was constantly put on the busiest bar. There was almost always a queue of 10+ drinks, and I struggled to keep up with the volume. It was incredibly stressful.

At one point I broke my ankle. I told my supervisor what had happened and explained that I wouldn’t be able to work for a while. Instead, I was still expected to come in. I wasn’t even able to wear my walking boot during my shift, so I tried to get through it with a lidocaine patch. I barely made it through the shift because of the pain.

Later on, I ended up being hospitalized just two hours before one of my scheduled shifts. My sister called the store to let them know I was having a medical emergency, but I was still marked as a no-call, no-show. I was then told to apply for a leave of absence, so I did, but it was denied.

My supervisor told me that I shouldn’t have been denied if I was really in the hospital.

I showed her a picture of me in fact in the hospital. With a date and time to prove it.

After that, my supervisor told me she thought I only worked there for the employee discount. She also cut my hours and refused to give me more shifts, even after my availability opened up. At that point, I was relying on that income to pay my bills, and having my hours reduced put my financial stability at risk.

My doctor later told me that the amount of stress I was under was contributing to the health issues that landed me in the hospital. Between the physical demands, the stress, my hours being cut, and feeling like I wasn’t being supported during a medical emergency, I felt like staying there was putting both my health and my ability to keep a roof over my head at risk.

So I quit on the spot.

I wanted to get some outside opinions because I’ve always wondered if I was justified in quitting.

😠 Rant 😠 Do you customers actually care about cup writing?

This is a barista speaking and a question aimed at customers. This has probably been talked about often. Do you actually care if your cup has something written on it? It doesn't change the taste or quality of your drink. If anything, if there's no writing, you get it faster. Does my scribbled "enjoy!" on every single cup make your day better? Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy writing on cups...of my own choice when I can say or draw something silly in my down time and not with the threat of getting written up hanging over my head. If everyone's forced to write something, I feel like it makes it much less special. It may take only 5-10 seconds to scribble on something, but that adds up so much over time. Was coached on cup writing by my DM today by one single cup I missed, so im just *slightly* upset.... it just feels so useless to me when we should be focused on quality and actual customer connection

Iced coffee refill policy

Post image
332 Upvotes

Hello friends! This may seem like a silly question, but I’m asking it anyways. I had a customer come up for a refill on their iced coffee. Their original order was a venti iced coffee with coconut milk. For their refill, they wanted a venti iced coffee with coconut milk and sf caramel syrup. I rang it in as a refill, and added the syrup, and it wanted to charge for the syrup. So I said to the customer, it’s going to charge for the syrup, is that okay? And he’s like “I thought with the new CEO you stopped doing the up charges on refills” or something like that, so I just say “okay we will have that right out for you” and just type sf caramel in the ask me instead of charging for it. I don’t have it in me to argue with a customer about an 87 cent charge, but can anyone tell me what the actual policy is? I very well may not know what I’m doing or how to properly ring up a refill, even as a SSV. Is there a way to ring up syrup in a refill in a way that doesn’t charge for the syrup?

Can someone help me find this cup?

Can someone tell me if this is a knockoff starbucks cup? I can't find anything online about it.

The closest I can find is the Starbucks Mexico soft touch white tumblers, but they don't have these bow toppers.

Does anyone know if these are legit? The sku is 011175867 and the barcode is 762111604194, I've tried to look both up online but found nothing.

Policy Question Managers clocking in and out

I’m current an assistant manager, and I’m looking to promote/move at the same time to Washington state. My previous manager said that (a few years ago) managers in WA had to clock in and out and were restricted to 40 hours per week. Does anyone know if this is still true? Google results told me no, but my DM said yes.

Taylor farms outbreak and our lunch items!!!

So how does everyone feel about the recent parasitic outbreak and Starbucks keeping our chicken wraps in stores?

I personally won’t be eating them, I think they taste like shit anyways, but if customers knew they were TF I’m sure they wouldn’t feel comfortable buying them either until everything is figured out

Policy Question Redeeming stars for sale merch?

I’m in Canada and I’ve always been able to redeem 400 stars for $20 off merchandise in store, even when the merch is on sale. Just this week, however, I tried to redeem my stars for a cup that was 50% off (ends up costing less than $20) and the cashier was unable to complete the transaction because the system wouldn’t allow it. Is this a recent change in policy? Or just a one-off?

2 person rule at Starbucks

Upvotes

So long story short I went back into the store as a keyholder because I forgot a key task and I honestly didn't know If it was done or not so I ran back back in while the other barista was his in his car. Now my sm heard about it now I'm under investigation. What is my outcome looking like by chance. Termination, write up, warning. Mind you I'm a new keyholder who only been with the company for 3 months 😪. Had no past experience once so ever. Also I was only in there for less then 3 minutes 🥲

Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi all, I’m UK based, having issue getting a brown sugar shaken espresso from my usual place like the photo. This is how it always used to look and tastes AMAZING! I had the one in the photo from a different store at the weekend, But every time I get one at my local store it is all mixed there’s no layers, just looks like an iced latte and doesn’t taste anywhere near as good. Is there a certain way I should ask the baristas to make it, so it turns out like the photo? It always used to look like this at my usual store but doesn’t any more no matter how makes it, it’s not just my usual store its most places, it’s rare to get one now that’s like the pic. Thanks!!
