So, I was playing on the NA Galactic Assault servers yesterday when the subject of private bot servers came up. To my surprise, multiple people expressed that they didn't know how it worked - odd, considering it's one of Kyber's most powerful features (in my opinion as someone who just started playing and needs to practice a lot). When I typed a quick explanation in chat, people said they were screenshotting it - so, why not type up a guide that doesn't have to be?
A quick note before I begin: I have, so far, only used this feature for solo practice matches. However, I'm pretty sure that this is also how you set up a room to play with friends.
Step 1: Create a mod collection. By default, servers will be created with no mods. At the bare minimum, your private bot server will need the Instant Online Improvements (IOI) mod to function (thank you, [u/Spacecor3](u/Spacecor3), for making me aware). The easiest way to quickly configure mods for your bot server is to have a collection ready to go. For most gamemodes, Battlefront+ has just worked for me (IOI is included in the modpack), but for Ewok Hunt matches, I need to set a specific AI mod that directly conflicts with Battlefront+ (this replaces IOI for Ewok Hunt only).
To do so, navigate to the "Mods" tab at the top of the Kyber launcher, click "Create New Collection", and then add the mods you want by clicking the Plus icon in the "add" column. Then, name your collection and save.
Step 2: Configure the server. This is, thankfully, the most confusing part.
In the "Host" tab of the Kyber launcher, click "+ | New". This will open the configuration menu. From here, the New button will have been replaced with a toggle between "Rotation" and "Mods." "Rotation" is where you select your gamemodes and maps. Select gamemode first, then add maps. Multiple gamemodes can be added at the same time.
Once you have your maps/modes, click on "Mods." This should open a tab where your mod collections are visible. Click a collection, make sure its mods show up under "Active Mods," and you're golden.
Then, look to the rightmost third of the Kyber launcher. This is where your server-specific settings are. Give it a name, and if you want it to be private, make sure you set a password. You can also configure the number of players/spectators you allow in your server. For solo practice matches, lower the player count to 2, and the spectator count to zero. If you're playing with friends, set however many people are gonna be in the match.
Once you've done all that...
Step 3: Launch the server. There's a start server button. Click it. Wait for Battlefront II to launch, just like you would when joining a normal Kyber match, and look for the character selection screen.
Step 4: Inject bots. Upon getting to the character selection screen, the game will say "Players Needed: 1-5". This is normal and correct. Tab out of Battlefront II back to the Kyber launcher, and you should see a "Moderate" tab. If you don't, navigate back to "Host", click on your newly created server, and then click "Moderate Server" in the rightmost third of the launcher.
Here, you should see a number of different options, including "Event Log", "Light Side", "Dark Side", and a tab on the right side of the screen with "Autoplayer" settings. If you want to switch from light side to dark side, hover over your player name and click the icon that looks like a refresh button.
Now, depending on gamemode, injecting bots will work differently. For most, the team 1 and team 2 slider can be set equally with no issues, but for Ewok Hunt, you want 2 bots on team 1 and 18 on team 2.
Set the sliders for team 1 and team 2 to your desired number of bots. The more bots there are, the bigger your computer's processing load will be. I usually do 10-13 per team to keep my mid range setup from blowing up, but if you've got a supercomputer, send it.
Once you've made your desired changes, click "Update Server." This will instantly inject the bots (and switch teams, if you did that).
Step 5: Play! The match should start automatically once bots are injected. When the match ends, it should cycle to your next map/gamemode just like a normal Kyber game does. You will need to re-inject bots each match, but it's the same process as before - tab out, set bots, inject.
And that's just about it. Your game MAY chug a little more compared to an official server match because it's handling the server processing locally, but that can be easily managed by changing bot amounts. Hopefully this helps someone!
