Repairing this lampshade was such a daunting task but it ended up turning out SO well!!! I’ve been doing glass for ~6 months and I learned so so so much from jumping right into the deep end with this project as it was my first repair. I took it to my classes to ask opinions on things if needed.

Despite the challenges I faced, such as the filigree and copper foil coming off the non-broken pieces, they ended up not being as big of a deal as I had thought. The filigree especially turned out great considering two out of three of them were snapped. I am going to try glueing or using silicone to joint them back together before I give the shade back to my stepmom.

There’s points where I tried to take pics and I looked at it like…“where the hell did I repair it??” Hahah. So I guess that means I did a good job, so happy with myself with this!!!

I got this glass from a friend who used to do stained glass, but in all my perusing of websites I don’t know that I’ve seen it before. Although as a newcomer to this hobby I probably haven’t seen a whole lot.
It’s such a pretty blue - I just want to get more of if I can!

Found at an Antique Markey for $390

I recently stopped by this antique shop to browse around, and ended up finding this piece hidden. So I held it to the sun and loved the colors and had to buy it.(last pic is what it looked like in the store)

I think it was a decent price, size; about 3’x2’ (including the frame)

I’m definitely not thinking of selling it, but I was curious If anybody can give a good estimate on age and if it was a good price?

I tried to make it as hard as possible while still being fun. It was way harder than I thought it would be with all those curves but I learned a ton by the end of it. Hopefully the next one is better.

Hello. I am working on a piece and I was just going to solder the rings to the outer corners (see photo) but I'm not sure if the zinc frame will be strong enough to hold it. It isn't a huge piece - only 7.5" tall, 6.5" wide at the top. I am using the thinner "bendable" zinc though because that is what I had.

Do you think the corners will be okay? Or would it be better to use the edges of the clouds on the sides (last photo). I feel like the chain might hit into the edges with that but I guess I could make the rings kind of oblong to try to avoid that. Thanks!

A friend of mine has a booth at an art market and offered to let me use some of the space for selling my glass. I would probably be selling simple photo strip frames like the ones pictured, and maybe some small sun catchers. I am still fairly new to the hobby (6 months) and I’m wondering if my work has reached the level of quality where I would be able to sell it. Some friends and family members have said that they would pay for my work/can see someone buying it at a market, but none of them have any experience with stained glass or selling art. If I do the market, I would price around $20-30 per frame, and it would be more for fun and to declutter some pieces than to make an actual profit. Does $20 seem like a reasonable price for something like this, and is it even something I would be able to sell? Any other tips about preparing for markets or what to bring would be appreciated. Hi! Some of you may have seen my WIP post with this piece of yellow glass last week. (close up on the second slide) The shop owner I rent studio space from took it back from me yesterday because it's "too pretty" to be used in a project like this. Personal thoughts on that aside, I built the whole project around the specific characteristics of this glass and would like to source my own. She will not tell me where she got it or who her supplier is, just that they're in Westchester NY/in the Poughkeepsie area. All pieces of glass from this supplier are kind of thick and have these funky curvy edges like this one. If anyone knows who makes them or where I could source a replacement, please let me know!!

l've received a few questions about how it's going to attach/ hang from the lamp base so I re-edited old footage of fabricating the vase cap, l've since drilled a hole in the top and when all the pieces are done it will get soldered in place and reinforced.

I made this kitty for my friend, based on her cat. This is my fourth piece ever, and the first that I fully made my own pattern and didn't base it on anything else. My soldering definitely needs work, but I learned a ton through this process and I'm excited to keep going!

Used half-round copper wire for the whiskers and eyebrows and enamel paint for the eye and fur details.

Someone sells 7 kilos of solder for 25 euros, but the person inhereted it so he doesn't know what kind of solder it is. Normally I solder with 60/40. What is the worst that can happen, that it's for example 50/50 and I have to practice with different solder?

Had a lot of fun with this one. First time doing came, cement and making a pattern larger than the Cricut sheet!

I think next time I would have use larger H-came pieces. I felt that the 3/16th was pretty unforgiving and maybe a bit too malleable for my liking?

Each time I think - working with lead free could not be that bad, I do it all the time, other people do it. And then I start soldering something big and IT. IS. THAT. BAD 😭

I've been doing stained glass just long enough to feel like I'm finally getting it. I'm feeling confident in my cutting, grinding, and soldering skills. I have a lot of room to improve, but I'm feeling good.

Like many of you, when I look for patterns I get irritated by the obvious AI generated nonsense that often has impossible cuts (at least without a saw). I've been doing CAD and vector graphics for long enough to make me feel very old, so I want to take a crack at drawing patterns.

Instead of drawing the typical flowers and geometric shapes I want to draw strange stuff. Let's get weird with it. This is why I'm making this post; I want your requests for patterns you can't find anywhere else. If I use your idea I'll send you the pattern when its done. Everybody wins!

tl;dr: I want to try my hand at drawing weird patterns. Give me suggestions please.

I’ve been working on this on and off for the past year for my husband. He loves frogs and reading so he asked me to make him a frog that is reading!
I feel kind of silly with how I broke up the brown glass. I should have combined some of the shapes to be one piece, specifically the 4 pieces right below the frog and 2 pieces on the right. Oh well, live and learn. I’m already itching to design my next piece!

I had the absolute joy of working on this commission that was a surprise for a lovely silks performer. This is definitely some of my most delicate painting to date with the itty bitty piercings and fine lines for the face and I'm so damn proud of how it turned out. 😍

I managed to clean out the broken pieces but the copper foil was horrible to try and separate from the no -broken pieces and I ended up just ripping it all out. So I ended up foiling the new pieces as well as the boarders they touch.

I am VERRRRY happy that I managed to find glass that matched nearly perfectly. There was some trial and error but I only had to find new glass once.

I was going to re solder the entire lamp to thicken the lines but…I don’t really feel like doing that. The copper foil towards the top of the shade would have to be replaced and it’s going to be covered by the fixture anyway, which wouldn’t fit flush with beaded lines.

As for the overlays. I think those will be the hardest part to restore. Two of them are snapped in one place and one also has a piece broken off. I am not really sure how to fix the overlay or go about adding it back on. It’s made out of some kind of stronger metal and patching it with a copper foil bandaid wouldn’t look right. Is there a place I could buy these sorts of metal lamp overlays? I know things like this are hard to find or simply aren’t in production so I’m not holding out hope for places that would sell that sort of thing.

I'm curious if anyone has seen similar or exact matches in their homes. Finding others would really help me uncover some more history on my farm house and date it properly. I have only seen one similar to the first picture and it was another Victorian home within my town. So whoever made these was definitely contracted/well known. The green and pink are more pronounced than pictured. I'm told it's not a Sears house either as they weren't established in Canada at this point and my province was only the size of Jersey when it was built now its just smaller than Texas.

I'm making this piece as a present for someone special to me, it's an original design of a place called Paxton's Tower in Wales, it's where my granny's ashes are scattered.

This is not finished yet and I am very much a beginner (this is pretty much my first piece), have soldered the front but will go back over it to smooth it all as much I can, then solder the back, add a lead came boarder and then patina it black. Actually really happy and proud of it so far, very excited to see the finished result.

I don't really have any idea what I'm doing and feel very much like I'm winging it but it's safe to say that I have absolutely fallen in love with stained glass!

Just finished this sick collab with a welder friend.

For vibration skepticism: I have silicone fit in the exterior zinc frame to try and keep vibration to a minimum. I have a glass buddy who did a sissy about 6 years back @ the start of her career and used a thick rubber band border in her frame. Her glass pieces are bigger, so more susceptible to breaking, and it's still going strong!
We're raffling it at a shop party, so assuming whoever wins it rides frequently, we can test out its durability and see how we can approach future orders!

I love how the glass started bringing the piece to life. The blue glass is from the late 1800s/early 1900s and was a pain to cut but it’s coming along!
