Discussion about Winnipeg
Listened to the recent pod and just got to the part where they’re discussing whether Winnipeg will be relocated in 5, 10 years. While I get the reasons, and understand that there are several massive markets in the US that are chomping at the bit to get a team, I don’t get why it’s always them when there are probably 4-5 other teams in similar boats. Along with Winnipeg, Ottawa, Buffalo and Columbus are in similar or worse financial positions. I’d argue that the jets might have the most stable owners of that lot. So why is it always Winnipeg that gets the relocation speculation?
Also in the same conversation they said the league is looking to expand to 36 so that should cover the remaining big dogs of Houston, Atlanta and Phoenix + wherever else they decide to go.
To be clear I’m not from Manitoba, but still want all these Canadian in the league. My choice for the 36th team if they go that route would be Quebec City or Hartford, I mean how could you not?
Anyways let me know what you guys think on this. Also is it just me or is Yands anti Canada? I get that vibe from him.

How is MAGA Keith going to Defend this One?
Recently been very turned off by Keith and his political stances. He’s really just an oaf who happened to play hockey. Now his golden boy Donald who he brings up every episode is making hockey equipment 50% more expensive. How are kids going to afford this in the US? $400 sticks will now be $600, even worse, bottle of crown goes from $30 to $45. Think of the kids. Can’t wait to hear Keith spin this into “I actually love this move by my all powerful leader, it will weed out the weak poor people I hate because I played 1000 games in the show”.

Soccer is a joke!
I’m sure the guys are going to talk about the World Cup again next pod. I guess I understand how people in Third World countries or no athletic abilities can support this sport, but how can guys that played in the show like this shit? I just don’t get it. Nonstop players rolling around on the ground crying over barely being touched. This sport is such a joke. I have always hated soccer, but I have zero respect for this sport or these players after watching the World Cup.

Turns out the seriously perverse and sick The Box show Grinelli attended was also attended, funded, and invested in by Jeffrey Epstein!
Way to go Grinelli, you're one cool dude.

Enough of Biz talking income tax
Just absolutely fed up with a man who had zero tax knowledge talking no state income tax. Firstly, you pay taxes on away games, secondly states like Florida gave overall high cost of living that comes out of your after tax income which are effectively just taxes that everyone just won’t consider, finally players like marner who live in Canada in the off season (plus play games in Canada so they work in Canada too) will owe taxes in Canada as a part time residence. Sure the players might be making decisions based on someone telling them about no state income tax, but it boils down to very little difference when it comes to overall tax burden, cost of living spending power, and if and only if you’re not committing tax fraud,
EDIT: every single one these responses is proving how you’re all just sheep who look at your pay stub and see you net pay and cry a little - 42 home games is not a a true 50/50 split - that not how incomes work whatsoever - you file taxes for the days where you work - there season does not start still the contract is paid and stops in playoffs. Additionally,
All of you just omit huge overall tax burden aspects - no where in any of these tax havens that you all think exist has low property tax, low property insurance, not a single player in the NHL living in Florida will be putting their kid in public school as the education system is ass, you can complain about the wait times of universal health care all you want - the immediacy of quick turn around of hospital visits in the US are astronomical and that’s why NHL players pay astronomical health insurance premiums. Any person who think the US is some sort of tax haven where they have practically no tax tax treaty’s except with Canada so how it works is you have to file taxes in both countries and pay both taxes and then you get credits back - any person here responding are the townies of all townies who go gee whiz I wish I lived Florida so my house insurance will be astronomically higher due to hurricane risk - I stand by what I say because I’m no I’m right - there’s a reason Jonny T still is in court with the government of Canada taxes come due that how it works. Also every single person who goes oh wow 8M USD in Florida untaxed for Brady - 8M USD goes significantly further in fucking Ottawa ontario when you factor in thats 11M CAD exchange alone drastically increases your spending power.

Summer pod episodes are my favorite
I don’t know why, but I kind of enjoy the shows more in the summer when there’s not as much hockey talk. It feels more like they’re just shooting the shit, going off on random tangents, and talking about whatever comes up. Anyone else feel the same way?

London Trip
Whit and the boys should 100% interview the guys going on the London trip. Zetterberg would be a white whale interview. Always loved Teddy Purcell interviews. Would be good to catch up and get some new guests.

RA hate is a little out of control…
Is he a drunk rambling dummy a lot of the time? Yes. Is he annoying? Yes. Would chiclets be better without him? Probably. But Jesus Christ man some the shit people say to him online is fucking awful. If you don’t like him on the pod that’s fine but he seems like a nice enough dude some of the more personal hate he receives kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth. A good old “you suck RA” is fine but making fun of him for being an alcoholic and his wife divorcing him? Come on man😕

No podcast following the draft?
I rarely listen to spittin chicklets but I was waiting for one after that draft and noticed they haven’t made one in almost a week. I’m not a usual so maybe they’re off doing something?

Mike Babcock behaviour detractors vs. promoters
We all know how Babcock is a hard coach and definitely has rode some of his players past the point of what is appropriate. I wonder what the actual ratio of detractors and promoters is.
There is clearly very vocal detractors and evidence of him being weird or a huge asshole. I just feel like with how vocal the storyline is, anyone who appreciated will be hesitant to share their opinion. The NHL is well known for having tighter PR than other leagues and players always look to avoid any distractions.
Like detractors of anything, they tend to be way more vocal than anyone who had average to good experiences.
I’m not defending, the stuff he did, the Johan Franzen was awful.
