Alternate Evolution [OC] True Dragons, a look at a derived lineage of Stenodracine

Context: The Pan-Permian is an alternate timeline from which the Great Dying was less explosive and more drawn out, allowing far more life to survive as they adapted in time.

Within the dense forests of this version of Earth, a flash of colour betrays the presence of a new lineage of dragon: the True Dragons. A lineage of stenodracine dragons that split off early, True Dragons, With this genus being Dracoverus Paene, is a group of gliding dragons. At 1 kilogram, Dracoverus is a small member of the family Paralagerpetidae. This small dragon is the precursor to a lineage of dragons that will shape the course of this Earth’s history. They use 5 ribs to support their patagium, with the rest protecting the vital organs. They raise their young much like the wyverns, with parental care lasting a single year. Mating rituals are usually non-violent, with hundreds of males gathering in specific groves, with those with the brightest colours getting to mate. Young are the colour of dried leaves, and their ribs are underdeveloped, meaning their main defense is staying dead still. Males are the only ones with bright heads, with females having a dull brown. They are primarily insectivorous, but will readily scavenge or hunt other small arboreal reptiles.

So sorry guys I’ve been swamped. Exams are taking up most of my time, and in my free time I learn more about illustration. I’ve been thinking up new, fresh ideas and will try to rapid-fire more posts. The next few will shift focus to dicynodonts. Thx for ur understanding :p

Fantasy/Folklore [OC] Would this creature be able to fly?

I’m attempting to create a dragon that both looks and acts like a dragon and would also be fully functional if you dropped it into reality. It has only 4 limbs, not 6. So you could call it the “Wyvern” dragon build.

The body length is 8 meters from snout tip to tail tip. The Skelton is made up of pneumatized bone, which aids in weight reduction and the flow of oxygen in conjunction with the avian style respiratory system. Due to this, it only weighs around 200kg despite its visually large appearance. It has a large chest keel bone that anchors the enormous chest muscles that are used to power the wings. Speaking of-

For the wings, they span 14 meters and fold up against the body while on the ground. Digits 1 and 2 aid in the grasping for rock/cliff climbing and ground locomotive abilities, digit 3 is greatly elongated and reinforced to act as the main structure supporting for the wing that will endure most of the flying tension, and digits 4 and 5 will aid in stabilizing the membrane, stoping it from fluttering or deforming mid-flight. They however would not aid in the overall flight force resistance and force distribution like finger 3 would.This effectively means the wing functions closer to a pterosaur’s wing but looks similar to a bat’s, which was the goal since dragons are famously depicted with a bat style wing. And while no such wing arrangement exists, I believe this system is evolutionarily defensible.

The membrane would then extend past the hind limbs, not attaching to them like a bat or pterosaur, but instead attach at the base of the tail. This would give the dragon a kite-like silhouette when viewed from below and keep the hind limbs completely free of membrane resistance allowing for less awkward movement during ground walking and roosting.

It would not use powered flight often as that is metabolically expensive at this scale. It would be primarily a large soaring animal that does fly-by attacks with its fire system (that I am currently still refining). It would only use powered flight when it cannot find a thermal or cliff to gain altitude, or if it needs to get off flat ground quickly.

Its lineage starts with Toxicofera-adjacent archosaurs during the Late Triassic to Early Jurassic. The lineage from there developed its unique traits incrementally over time. Proto flight through gliding membrane experimentation in Central Asia highland terrain, gland chemistry starting from mild irritant secretions toward increasingly complex binary liquid fire chemistry, avian-esc style respiratory architecture developing through gradual air sac development, and the modern dragon as I’m making it emerges around the same time as modern humans come into existence.

Are there any issues that stop this creature from flying?

Seed World [OC] Mundeng (Pygmy Hippo Seed World) 128MPE Creature Comp. #8 - Browraffe Relatives

A handful of posthippos, all evolved from the Exelopes of 64MPE, whose descendants are collectively called Exids and include Griffins (see pts.1 & 3) and Sleigndeer (see pt. 5).  However, the species presented are all more closely related to the contemporary Browraffes (see pt. 7) than to the other clades mentioned. They all possess dorsal ventral facial horns found in both sexes and derived from the fused tusks of their hippo ancestors, called execones, which are primarily composed of dentine with variable amounts of enamel found mostly in the lower horn (in contrast to Sleigndeer where analogous structures are primarily collagen, while in Griffins they are a mix of collagen, soft tissue, and mineral deposits). As a result, their horns are far more durable than those seen in superficially similar animals on Earth, and thus can serve a wider variety of purposes. Question/Discussion What would a future species of herbivorous cat be like?

I like cats and am a vegan, so I think it would be cool if there were at least 1 herbivorous species of them.

I was wondering how an herbivorous cat would look like and behave. And what kind of herbivorous diet would they have.

Like would they lose their claws(the sharpness at least), agility, and playful nature? Would they become monkeylike? Would they be grammivores or folivores(grass and leaf eaters, respectively)? Or is it more likely they would become a frugivore? Possibly even a nectervore?

Would it be housecats or wildcats(lions, pumas, bobcats, etc.) that have a 180° degree turn in their diet? Both? One species or multiple converts?

(none of these are my cats or pictures, btw, just want interesting visuals)

Hace un tiempo tuve un sueño bastante raro.

Me desperté en la orilla de un río ancho, con agua de color lechoso que desembocaba en el océano. Al mirar a la izquierda, vi cómo la corriente blanca se mezclaba despacio con el azul salado del mar, como si fueran acuarelas. A mi lado dormía una chica, respirando tranquilo.

El aire no se sentía normal: olía a resina tibia, miel y flores. Al mirar arriba, vi dos lunas fosforescentes ocultándose en el horizonte para dar paso a dos soles. Uno brillaba como oro puro y el otro soltaba anillos de fuego desde su centro. El cielo se llenó de tonos turquesa, ámbar y violeta entre la niebla del río.

Respirar ahí daba una sensación casi eufórica, como si no hubiera ningún tipo de bacteria o toxina. En el cielo volaban unas criaturas enormes con alas. No buscaban presas desde las alturas porque en este mundo ni siquiera existe la idea de cazar; solo comían fruta. Su vuelo era más bien una danza para saludar al nuevo día.

Alrededor había un bosque gigantesco, con árboles diez veces más grandes que las secoyas de la Tierra. De las ramas y enredaderas colgaban frutas de todos los colores y formas. No había espinas, ni mosquitos, ni serpientes, ni miedo. Dormimos directo sobre el musgo.

Al despertar en mi habitación, me di cuenta de algo: la mente humana no suele inventar cosas sin una base. Si metemos en la ecuación la física cuántica y los bucles temporales, quizás este mundo no sea solo un sueño, sino un lugar que existe en alguna parte.

Mientras los multimillonarios gastan fortunas en enviar cohetes de hierro a los desiertos muertos de Marte —importando nuestras guerras y nuestros errores—, yo prefiero buscar otra dirección. La sociedad está cansada del metal frío y la agresión. Por eso quiero desarrollar la idea de una civilización basada en la biología pura, la simbiosis y la ausencia total de depredación.

Llamé a este proyecto Vyriy.

Esto no es solo un texto para leer; quiero estructurarlo como una simulación intelectual donde yo tomo el rol de Game Master marcando las coordenadas iniciales, y ustedes ayudan a construir las leyes, la física y la ecología del planeta. Quienes más aporten irán formando el "Consejo de Ancianos" para guiar el rumbo del proyecto.

Question/Discussion What if human civilization relied purely on genetic evolution rather than cognitive innovation to solve problems?

Humans currently solve survival, social, and environmental challenges primarily through cognitive innovation (language, technology, agriculture, and complex institutions) at a hyper-fast pace. Instead of waiting millions of years for genetic mutations, we adapt by inventing tools and passing down knowledge through education.

I’ve been thinking about a scenario where this dynamic is completely flipped. What if human civilization had relied purely on biological and genetic evolution rather than cognitive innovation to adapt to changing environments?

In our timeline, when humans moved into colder climates, we invented clothing, housing, and fire. In a world driven purely by genetic adaptation, our ancestors would have had to wait tens of thousands of generations to evolve specialized biological traits—like thicker subcutaneous fat, dense fur, or altered metabolic mechanisms—to survive the same conditions. Instead of agricultural revolutions, dietary shifts would require genetic divergence into specialized physiological niches.

How would such a civilization look today? Would human societies have diversified into distinct sub-species optimized for specific biomes, similar to social insects with specialized castes, rather than forming unified cultural groups? How would the concept of 'knowledge' or 'memory' function if traits were hardcoded through DNA rather than taught?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how a purely genetic-evolutionary trajectory would reshape human social structures, physical morphology, and the overall timeline of civilization!

Fantasy/Folklore Biology of my Dwarven Race

—Head:
The head of a Dwarf is broad and heavily built, with a thick jaw, pronounced brow ridges, and sturdy facial features that give the race its unmistakable appearance. Their eyes are much like those of humans in shape and color, although many Dwarves possess irises that catch the light with a faint, gemstone-like shimmer. Among their people, this subtle trait is often seen as a sign of divine favor.
Hair is one of the race’s most recognizable features. It grows thick, coarse, and naturally resilient, most commonly in shades of grey, bronze, silver, and gold. Both men and women are capable of growing beards and mustaches, although female facial hair is generally finer and less common. Male Dwarves, by comparison, usually grow hair far more quickly and develop thicker beards over the course of their lives.
Unlike that of most races, Dwarven hair resists heat exceptionally well. It rarely burns or singes under conditions that would damage ordinary hair, making it well suited to life spent around furnaces, forges, and open flames. Because it continues growing throughout most of a Dwarf’s life, elaborate braids and carefully maintained beards often reflect a person’s age, family, profession, or social standing.

—External Body:
Dwarves are short, broad, and remarkably solid. Most adults stand between 4.2 and 5.3 feet (1.28–1.61 m) in height, yet their dense muscles and heavy bones often give them the weight of a much taller human.
Their skin is thicker than that of most humanoids and commonly ranges from pale stone colors to rich earthy tones. A wax-like secretion coats the skin, reducing moisture loss while offering a degree of protection from intense radiant heat. This natural defense, combined with their unusually thick hide, allows Dwarves to spend long hours working around blazing furnaces, molten metal, and volcanic environments with relatively little discomfort.

—Internal Body:
Nearly every part of a Dwarf’s body is built for durability rather than speed.
Their compact proportions create a naturally low center of gravity, while their considerable weight gives them outstanding balance. Loose rock, steep slopes, and unstable ground rarely trouble experienced Dwarves, who are difficult to knock off their feet even under harsh conditions.
Although they lack the long stride of taller races, they move confidently across rough terrain. Their shorter limbs reduce their overall speed and reach, but they compensate with sure-footedness and stamina.
The Dwarven skeleton is exceptionally dense, making broken bones uncommon even after injuries that would cripple others. Powerful muscles are packed tightly onto this frame, allowing Dwarves to produce impressive strength despite their modest height. Long days of physical labor are routine for them, and they recover from fatigue with remarkable efficiency.
Their hearts and lungs are adapted for sustained effort instead of explosive movement. Whether mining, marching, or fighting, Dwarves excel at maintaining a steady pace for long periods. Their lungs also filter dust, smoke, and other airborne impurities with unusual efficiency, making underground life far less hazardous for them than it would be for most races.
Their internal organs are equally resilient. The liver and kidneys tolerate toxins exceptionally well, while a robust immune system provides a high degree of resistance against disease. Dwarves are by no means immune to poison or illness, but they frequently survive conditions that would kill members of other races.
Dwarves attribute these traits to the Divine Gift of Endurance, a blessing inherited from the gods. More than simple toughness, this gift gives their bodies an extraordinary resistance to change.
Because of this, curses, mutations, possession, and other supernatural effects struggle to take hold. The same resistance also affects beneficial magic. Healing spells, blessings, magical enhancements, and transformative enchantments all require greater effort to influence a Dwarf than they would most other peoples.
Their natural healing reflects this same principle. Recovery is deliberate rather than rapid. Wounds may close more slowly than those of humans, yet bones usually heal correctly, lasting injuries are uncommon, and the body continually attempts to restore itself to its original condition.
This stability has its disadvantages. Dwarves adapt slowly to unfamiliar environments, develop natural immunities at a slower pace, and respond poorly to magical augmentation. Their great physical density also makes swimming difficult. Most sink quickly in deep water and suffer heavier impacts from falls than lighter races.

—Reproduction:
The same stability that defines Dwarven physiology also shapes their reproduction.
Pregnancy lasts close to two years, making it one of the longest among the mortal races, exceeded only by the Elves. Nearly every birth results in a single healthy child. Twins are so uncommon that many Dwarves live their entire lives without ever meeting one.
Newborn Dwarves are sturdy from the moment they enter the world. They possess unusually strong constitutions and dense skeletal structures, though they mature at a slower pace than humans. Childhood is long, but growth is steady, and congenital illnesses or developmental abnormalities are exceptionally rare.
Most Dwarves reach physical adulthood at about twenty-two years of age.
A typical lifespan ranges from two hundred to two hundred fifty years, although a fortunate few live beyond three centuries. Unlike Elves, whose youthful appearance changes little over the centuries, Dwarves visibly age much like humans before the process slows considerably. Even those whose faces are lined with age often retain the strength, endurance, and clarity of mind needed to remain active members of their communities for decades to come.
