Does anyone have a mobile home for sale for $3,500 or less?

Hello anyone in any part of Central or southern Illinois? Have a mobile home for sale for 3500 or less? I’m relocating from Georgia. I honestly don’t care where the mobile home is located as long as it’s in the state of Illinois. It would just be me I’m 30 years old, and my dog who’s two years old he is a pit-bull terrier he’s a rescue, he’s neutered. He’s the sweetest baby in the world, and he stays on a leash every time he’s outside.

Looking for Wild Crabapples

I'm trying to build native wild habitat. I want to gather a half-dozen wild crabapples to grow my own seedlings at home. Anyone know where I can find some fruitful non-ornamental crabapple trees near Carbondale? I'll protect the seedlings from deer.

Hidden Gems of Southern IL

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m from the Metro East and recently launched a free app called Platypass to help people discover local businesses, events, and hidden gems instead of the same chain places.

I joined because I know Southern Illinois has a ton of amazing spots that deserve more attention, and I’m looking forward to discovering some new favorites from this community.

What’s one place in Southern Illinois that everyone should experience at least once?

Two dogs with collars headed south on the shoulder of northbound 55 at 7-7:15 am this morning, July 19. One medium size, black and gray, pointed ears; the other a smallish beagle. Mile marker 54.

I’m not local so if anybody here lives near Carlinville and can post this to Facebook groups or more relevant subreddits etc, please do! These babies need to get home!

Looking for honest opinions on O'Fallon, IL, Des Moines, IA, and Fort Myers, FL for an interracial family

Hi everyone!

My husband (White) and I (Black woman) are starting to think about where we'd like to settle down in the future. We hope to have children, so we're looking for a place where we can build a long-term home and raise a family.

Right now, the three places we're considering are:

O'Fallon, Illinois

Des Moines, Iowa

Fort Myers, Florida

I'm originally from the Caribbean, so I haven't really had personal experiences with racism. To be honest, the idea of being treated differently because of my race feels strange to me, and I'm not sure what to expect. Since my husband and I are an interracial couple, I'd really appreciate hearing from people who live in or know these areas. Are they generally welcoming? Have interracial families felt comfortable there?

Lifestyle is also very important to us. We enjoy suburban neighborhoods with a strong sense of community. We love taking long walks, hiking, visiting art museums, exploring local coffee shops, and spending time outdoors. We'd also like an area with good schools, family-friendly activities, and a reasonable cost of living.

We're currently on the East Coast, so we don't have much experience with the Midwest or Southwest Florida. I'd love to hear the good, the bad, and anything you think someone moving from the East Coast should know.

Thank you so much for any insights!

25 student-grade violins ready to donate

My 90yo father-in-law refurbishes violins to student-grade for southern Illinois high schools, and has a surplus inventory of 25.  He prefers donating in person and will drive most anywhere from his house about an hour east of St. Louis, but fears driving to Reddit-posted places near Chicago.  Any suggestions? Thanks!

Why is Illinois cool?

Hello everyone! I'm working on a project trying to learn more about the states! here are all the questions I have with their category feel free to pick and choose or answer them all if you want! Any info or help on this state will be greatly appreciated! And thankyou!

culture and tradition:

  • What is a local tradition or festival here that outsiders rarely know about?
  • If I want to experience the authentic culture of your state, where should I go?
  • was there a local myth or urban legend that a lot of the locals know who grew up there? if so tell me a little about said myth/urban legend.
  • how do different regions of this state change?

food & drink:

  • what is the most famous state food? where can I get it?
  • is there a regional dish that you grew up with but tourist always overlook?
  • is there a local delicacy in your state/town? do you hate or love it?

geography & environment:

  • what is your favorite time of year to live here, and what makes it so special for you?
  • how does it differ from other places/states in your opinion?
  • what does the landscape look like? does it affect your everyday life in anyway?
  • if I were to visit for 24 hours, where should I visit? where do I explore if i want to see scenery?

lifestyle & identity

  • how would you describe the personality of people who live here?
  • what is your state known for? how do you feel about that stereotype?
  • what do people here do to unwind on the weekends or afterwork?

No AI was used to organize this I promise.

camping in shawnee national forest

hi all! i saw a version of this question asked and answered about 4 years ago, and just wanted to see what the status is now.

i am planning to drive into shawnee national forest from far away in the middle of next week. if i arrive at 4 or 5 pm, what are the odds on being able to find a first-come-first-serve tent campsite? i was reared up in jackson hole, WY, where you have to arrive at the ass crack of dawn to get a nonreservable site, but my impression is that things might be different in shawnee. any insights (or reservable camping recs) would be very very helpful!

Looking for camping and hiking recommendations!

Headed to Garden of the Gods and Bell Smith Springs this weekend. Does anyone know any other cool spots or trails or places to camp? Open to driving a few hours past as well. Preferably cool views or waterfall/swimming hole! Looking to set up camp off the beaten path not at a campsite. We are able-bodied and can hike long distances. Thanks in advance!

Edit: would love some urbex recs too!

Advice on the Mount Olive area

My husband and I are planning on purchasing a home in the Mt.Olive area. He is black and I’m Hispanic.. we know of the “sundown” past but should we be super concerned?

We’ve visited and drove around the town a few times and so far people seem friendly. Its seems like a normal small town.. we can handle ourselves, our concern is when we have kids and they eventually go to school..

The property is beautiful! And an amazing price.. we‘ve done so much research and cannot find anything aside from micro aggressions from some folks but that’s always going to be a thing.
