Hi everyone! I have a concept for an educational AR (Augmented Reality) game designed to teach children multi-dimensional physics, ecology, and system thinking in a completely intuitive way. I don't have the resources to build this myself, so I'm putting it out there into the public domain. If this inspires you, please take it and build it!
The Core Concept: The Glass Cube
Imagine a virtual, holographic glass cube sitting on a child's desk in AR. Inside the cube, there is a small plant in a pot.
The plant exists in standard x, y, z space, but the game introduces a 4th dimension—Time (t)—and maps it to physical space:
Time Slider: Moving the physical cube (or swiping) to the left rewinds time. The flower shrinks back into a sprout, then a seedling, and finally a seed.
Moving it to the right accelerates time, showing the flower blooming, aging, and eventually decomposing back into the soil.
The Magic: Color Filters (Dimensions of Data)
Instead of teaching kids complex formulas, the game gives them "colored glass lenses" (filters) they can look through. Each lens represents a different physical dimension/property of the simulation:
The Blue Lens (Moisture & Fluid Dynamics):
Looking through this shows water molecules flowing. Kids can see the soil dry up as time moves forward, water evaporating from the leaves, and eventually forming a tiny rain cloud at the top of the cube.
The Red Lens (Energy & Thermodynamics):
This lens visualizes heat and metabolism. The plant glows red when absorbing sunlight. If the child brings a virtual heat source (like a candle) near the cube, they can watch the heat transfer through the glass in real-time.
The Grey Lens (Structure & Material Density):
This visualizes structural integrity. When the plant is watered and healthy, its stem is rigid and dense. If it dries out, the density drops, making it fragile and prone to snapping if the cube is shaken.
Unleashing Childlike Curiosity (The Sandbox)
The magic happens when kids start mixing these dimensions. They aren't bound by strict levels or pre-made scenarios. They can play like "mad scientists" in a safe sandbox:
What happens if I freeze time (t=0), turn the temperature to maximum (Red Lens), and shake the cube?
What if I flood the cube with water (Blue Lens) and fast-forward time by 100 years?
By interacting with these invisible forces visually, children will develop an intuitive, deep understanding of cause-and-effect, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics before they ever have to memorize a single formula in school.
Why AR?
Using AR glasses or a tablet, the simulation can interact with the real world. The virtual "rain cloud" created by the plant's evaporation could escape the glass cube and float up to the child's actual ceiling, or the virtual plant could react to the real light levels in the room.
