General Question Did sling get rid of sports box on homepage?

My system apparently updated :( and now the sports box score-looking cards that were categorized by league are gone. That was my go-to because I never know what channel my various sports teams are on OR I simply want to browse what’s available and then quickly go tune in. Scrolling the channel guide in sports is definitely not what I want. Is there a way to get it back or is it gone for good?

General Question 21-51 issues

I have had SLING for several years, and my biggest complaint about it has always been the DVR. Every so often Sling makes changes to the the DVR, and screws it up. this has happened a few times over the past several years. Now it has become a hit or miss on whether a recording will play or not.

I have deleted and reinstalled the app on all devices. I have signed out and then back in on all devices (that worked for 1 recording), and I thought that fixed it. NOPE tried the sign out and back in today. I recorded a movie yesterday, and tried to play it today. 21-51 errors.

FIX IT OR I AM GONE

the DVR has become useless. constant 21-51 errors on every device. Sony (android tv) ROKU, iPad, iPhone.

if it doesn’t get resolved soon I will have to find another service.

Technical Question Not knowing how your database works but

The 21-51 error issue.

like I said not knowing how your database works, but could it one of a couple things like.

a permissions issue if the database isn’t allowing read permissions it wouldn’t allow playback.

a messed up pointer to where the program is located in you data base. if it can’t find it, it won’t play.

i have given up on hoping my recordings will playback.

FYI Hey r/slingtv — Helping Introduce u/SlingStevie, your new official Sling Support

Taking a moment from my normal Boost Mobile support to help introduce you all to a new addition to our Reddit support team, u/SlingStevie! We're launching this handle to serve as a Reddit extension of our customer service team for Sling. While our Help Center website and 24/7 automated chatbot can help you solve most issues, complex streaming issues sometimes require a deeper technical look. They're here to bridge that gap by providing direct, human, and plain-spoken support right where you’re already chatting.

You won't find any marketing fluff or advertisements here; this account is focused solely on account escalation, technical troubleshooting, and customer service. Whenever you encounter an unusual UI quirk, an account loop, or a hardware bottleneck, they will do their best to troubleshoot and resolve the issue directly, or collaborate with our internal teams to secure a fix!

What u/SlingStevie can help with

If it impacts your daily viewing experience and you weren't able to find a fix on our Help Center, we can tackle it together:

  • UI & app quirks: Like when the guide layout glitches out or your navigation stack drops state.
  • Device stream bottlenecks: Troubleshooting video freezes, audio out-of-sync bugs, and low-RAM hardware issues (Firesticks, Rokus, Apple TVs).
  • DVR & error codes: Fixing cloud sync failures (like Error 15-12) or checking plan expiration rules.
  • Account & package discrepancies: Straightening out mobile login loops, billing proration math, or add-on activation delays.
  • Sports & blackout clarity: Figuring out regional market boundaries and feed authentication bugs.

Why are we providing support on Reddit?

Our website guides and 24/7 support chat are great tools for quick fixes and fast support, but we know complex, streaming bugs often need a different kind of eye. We want to meet you exactly where you're already sharing those deeper technical questions. Offering support on Reddit allows us to share tailored, platform-specific guides in a format you already trust. Think of this channel as a direct, two-way street: you help us spot real-time quirks, and in return, we take your feedback straight to our internal teams to ensure your voice is actively shaping how we improve the service.

How to reach u/SlingStevie

  • In the comments: I’ll be actively keeping an eye on the feed, but I won't be jumping into every single conversation. If a thread is just a general discussion or if you guys are already helping each other out with a solid answer, I'll step back and let the community do its thing. I’m mostly here to step in when there's a unique technical glitch, opportunity to clear up confusion or an escalation where I can hand you a direct workaround.
  • Via DM: If your issue requires looking at secure account details, billing logs, or device provisioning histories, I’ll ask you to shoot me a DM.

When we're around

Right now, they are a one-person team supporting Sling, on our larger team. They’ll be active on the sub Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM MT. If you drop a thread or a DM over the weekend, they’ll be diving straight into the queue first thing Monday morning.

They're here to build a blueprint for better support and act as your advocate inside the building. Let them know what bugs have been tripping you up lately, and let's get them squared away.

Rant Sling sends me daily emails about a pass I don't have.

Not really looking for a solution. Just adding one more data point to the Sling Database is Messed Up file.

Since mid-March, I've been getting a daily email from Sling welcoming me to my 7 Day Pass. Considering my disastrous 7-day experience last December (long story, covered in an old post), I'm happy to say that I do not actually have a 7 Day Pass, just a $5/month DVR.

The image (always the same) with the Welcome includes promos for college basketball, Dark Winds, Bachelor Mansion Takeover, and Lost Women of Alaska. All of those have been off the air for months.

If Reddit newbie u/SlingStevie wants to show off their abilities, I'll be impressed if they can reach into the database and turn off this daily email without disrupting my zillion Freestream recordings. Otherwise, I'll just keep deleting these with a little chuckle each time.

Technical Question Air TV2 DVR Playback Issues on Laptop

I got an external hard drive and plugged it in to my Air TV2. I did my first recording on Monday and sling says an unexpected error occurs and won’t play it. Sometimes it will play but pause, rewind and fast forward are disabled. It works on every other device including an older Dell laptop with Windows 10. I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows 11 that I bought
less than a year ago. Issue occurs with Chrome, Edge and Firefox including on incognito/private. I’ve tried over a dozen things and nothing worked. Any ideas?

Rant Sling: (over) One Month In

So let me start this off by saying I myself have not had cable in my house since I was 3 years old. The only way I was able to watch cable channels like Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, etc etc was by going over other people's houses and enjoying it there. I'm finally in a position where I have moved out of my parent's place and I have the disposable income to afford cable services after enjoying all I could with things like Pluto TV and other free stuff. I even had a few sites that I used but eventually they got nuked as I expected, so I finally made the decision to get something legit.

As I already have enough boxes and devices, I opted for Sling which I have had some prior experience with the freestream, so I figured if I went Orange+Blue+Total TV and some extras, I'd have everything I'd ever watch or want to watch at a somewhat decent price.

At first, everything was fine. I was getting all the channels I've been missing and watching what I usually would. The problems started when it was time for the second month's payment which was over $40 more than what it was supposed to be. For whatever reason my packages started to glitch and I no longer had the total TV package (it was giving me all of the separate packages billed at a higher rate). On top of that, it has separated my orange and blue into the two packages (which was also billing at higher rate).

So, after literally 2 days of going back and forth with the support (which included things like them saying that my free one month add ones were causing the issues, them trying to tell me over and over again that everything was fine when it definitely wasn't, and that it was "escalated" to higher support), they were finally able to credit my account and fix everything which appears to be normal for now.

Despite that experience, I HOPE that the rest of my time with Sling will be smooth sailing, otherwise I'm not above going back to "sailing on the high seas". 6.5/10

Rant Latest update ruined Sling on Samsung TV

The guide is a hot mess. It rearranged the channels. There are 3 options to change the list: Classic, By Category, and A-Z. All of them show the channels alphabetically. Changing the option make NO difference in the list display.

Recent Channels is gone!! If I want to switch between ABC and Vice I have to mash my remote forever. The "suggestions" on the home page don't show what I've watched recently, it's guesses are laughable. I watched a world cup game on Fox, now it recommends Fox News to me every time I open it. Recents is still on the website and my phone app, they just removed it from TV.

Another bug is shows with the same name. "Unsolved Mysteries" with Robert Stack and "Unsolved Mysteries" on the IFC Films Picks channel. IFC's show is a true crime series. I want to record all of the IFC episodes but Sling records all of the original Unsolved that plays 24/7 on it's own channel. The IFC one shows the Robert Stack thumbnail in the DVR, but the show has it's own thumb on IFC. The IFC episode descriptions are Stack descriptions, too. The IFC show is listed under "Extras" under the season list for Stack as well as mixed into the regular seasons. The only way to find the IFC one is to check every single Stack one.

Generally, I love Sling. After a lifetime of being tied to f-ing cable I'm thrilled to have easy streaming anywhere, lots of niche channels, a great price and unlimited DVR. But the Guide is turning into a hemorrhoid. And of course, there's no one to tell about it.

General Question Sling w/Google TV

Hello 👋, Sling TV customer here looking to bypass the sling guide… I read that by using google tv I could bypass the sling guide and just use google guide, but I’ve never used google tv, so I don’t really know what I’m talking about... Has anybody done this? Does it work well? Is google tv fast to load? Are you generally happy with it? Thanks!

Rant Finally ditched Sling - Tired of Injected ads, and malfunction channel flips

This week I finally ditched Sling.

I was happy with Sling when I first moved to them when YouTubeTV raised their prices a couple years back. But Sling followed suit with higher prices, and I started the search to be rid of them.

Now the streaming services are approaching the cost for cable service from years ago! WTF!

Earlier this year, Sling changed their software and the number of injected ads just got out of hand. I would flip between two channels, and they would start the program from some earlier random point. I would FF to where I left off, and stinkin' Sling would inject 5 minutes of ads! It did this on each channel flip. I kind of figured out that if you go through the guide, it would not do that as much, but they still did it.

I have to say they did improve their guide a few weeks ago, and I liked it a lot over their old POS guide. But not enough to put up with the rest of Sling's BS.

So now I am on IPTV, saving a ton of $. And it is more reliable than stinkin' Sling!

General Question Is there any way to change the commercials?

I’ve had Sling TV for about 2 weeks now and I’m tired of seeing the same 3-4 ads play on repeat all day long.(bonus points if it’s ASPCA commercial showing dying dogs for 3 minutes straight) Sometimes the same ad will play 3 times during the same commercial break. Is there any way to just get the regular cable TV commercials? Watching the same paramount ads every break is awful.

So my SlingTV just updated to the new guide layout. It seems they categorized all the channels and there's not an "All Channels" option. Am I missing something?

General Question Can't play DVR shows

For the past few days I can't play my DVR-recorded shows. The error message is "Looks like you are not signed in or the content is not part of your current subscription." Of course I am and it is. My chat with Sling TV yielded nothing and I'm at a loss now. I've paid for this service and they can't deliver, but say they can't refund my payment either. What should I do now? It was working fine until two days ago. They only offer chat support.

General Question Sling constantly cutting and skipping the ending of World Cup games

Is anyone else having this problem? Most of the World Cup games, whether I'm watching on my TV or my computer, cut out right before the ref blows the whistle and then suddenly the broadcast skips ahead a few seconds. In today's Columbia-Switzerland game, it literally cut out before the last player took his kick and then skipped to scenes of the winning team celebrating. I don't recall this happening with any other sporting events I watched on Sling previously, though maybe I wasn't paying close attention. What throws me is that occasionally some games will do the pause and skip after the final whistle blows, which shows this isn't a 100% consistent problem.

Technical Question SlingTV is terrible with sports

Basically, one tv will have the World CUp or the NBA Finals displayed on the cards so it can be selected. For example, the living room tv will have Spain v. Portugal front and center when you start the app, but the office tv does display it, and when you search for Spain v. Portugal or World Cup the only result is for a replay on July 8th on FS2. If I search for WYNW, the station showing it on the living room, it will only show some local news report. Something similar happened with the NBA finals. What is this garbage!? Why is SlingTV search completely worthless and the guide complete trash?

Technical Question Have sling tv to watch World Cup, now we’re traveling and the games aren’t available?

Basically what the title says. Got sling tv to watch the games, we’ve been in a small town for a couple days for the holiday and up until yesterday night everything was fine. Now the games aren’t showing on the app at all. We’ve just been watching on our phones/ipad. Very frustrating to pay for something for a specific purpose and then not have access to it. Anyone know what’s causing this?

Technical Question AirTV 2 + Web Browser = Awful Quality

Has anyone been having issues lately with playing back AirTV 2 channels in a web browser? At least on my end, it tries to pull channels over the internet instead of my local network. No issues getting full quality streams on local video streaming devices (Roku and Android TV). It's always worked fine until recently, so perhaps it's an issue with their web player...

General Question MSNOW on Sling Orange?

I've been subscribed to Blue mostly for MSNOW. This week I switched to Orange to watch Wimbledon on ESPN. I just noticed that MSNOW is still on the Guide, I can watch it, and programs I'd scheduled have been recorded. Settings and the website still say MSNOW is Blue only. I'm wondering whether this is a glitch, or has Sling added MSNOW to Orange? Would someone who has Orange see if you can get MSNOW?

General Question Sling TV Add-On - No more Globoplay?

I have tried unsuccessfully to add TV Globo (Brazilian Package) to my Sling service but no luck. Is this no longer being offered to people in the USA?
https://www.sling.com/international/brazilian - just puts me in a loop and I cannot add it.

Is there any other way to subscribe to TV Globo if Sling is not longer an option?

Thanks

Technical Question AirTv Series Recording Local News Issue

Been using AirTv for well over a year to record local channels and it has worked great.

Recently my local news on NBC is having an issue. I set it up to record the local news which is 5:30 pm every day (note I've done New Episodes Only and also New Episodes/Reruns).

It will record one episode and then won't record anymore. The strange thing is the national news at 6 pm records the series fine.

When I setup the series recording, it shows it will record the news today but not any other day. It acts as if it doesn't understand the news each day at 5:30 pm is a series.

I figured maybe the guide was corrupt so I rescanned local channels. Same issue. I've reset the AIRTV multiple times .. Same issue.

This used to work great so I'm wondering if maybe a software update broke it. Anyway had a similar issue?

Thanks in advance!

Technical Question Sling no longer up-converts to Dolby in my processor

I've had the Sling app for years and my home theater processor has always been able to up-convert it to Dolby with a dedicated center channel.

Yesterday, it stopped and is only playing 5.0 surround with no center channel. Tried a different Apple TV and its the same thing--no dedicated enter channel.

Did something change yesterday within the app that stops it from being able to be up-converted to 5.1?

All other apps have not changed.

EDIT: FIXED it! Make sure Continuous Audio Connection is turned OFF in ATV settings. It will sometimes turn itself on during updates.
