Holy fuck that comment section is cancer. I was expecting mad people talking shit but it was just full of people praising it, when it looks like complete ass and not even remotely “historically accurate”
Keep in mind that the channel can hide comments whenever they want. So they hide all the comments that are critical and leave only the comments left by the botfarm dedicated fans of historical accuracy.

You are most likely wrong about that. While we don't have direct written narrative historically about the Trojan war, Pliny the Elder and many other pre-Christianity writers speak of it in an historical context. Was it exactly as was written about in the Iliad. Probably not. Did a significant war between Greece and Troy happen, most likely.
Yep, the city was where it was always reported to be, and the digs have shown a strata where the city was burned. The burning is within the timeframe given for the Trojan War. Wooden horses and half-gods? Lol no, but major shit went down at the walls of Troy.

Any movie set in ancient Greece that was truly "historically accurate" would be totally bewildering. Society has changed a lot in 3,000 years, the Klingons and Vulcans on Star Trek are more relatable than our actual ancestors that far back.

That's the thing with people talking about "historical accuracy" in movies... 98% of the time the public has no idea what they are talking about. So what they think is historical accuracy is really just what they've seen in other movies, with no relation to the reality of the time period. Elon could make a bunch of Ancient Greeks / Mediterraneans / North Africans look like pasty white Northern Europeans in Roman armor and half the viewers will go "Yay! Historically accurate!"

There are parts in Odyssey that could improve over that holywood slop. Costumes for example. Ancient Greece wasn't warhanmer and there were no full plate armors. Also the armors were bronze, they didn't waste a shit ton of color to make them black.

If you understand Homer you know this doesn’t make sense. The Odyssey takes place in the Bronze Age long before it was ever written down. By the time the story ended up in the form it’s in now it was hundreds of years later, but small pieces of later times slipped in. The Odyssey itself is not historically accurate. It’s a combination of the period it was written down in, the period it’s about, and pure mythical fabrication.
I work in film, and I'm constantly having to tell EPs "AI can't do that." Don't get me wrong, AI can do a LOT and it can be a really useful tool, especially in things like rotoscoping and tracking.
But when you get to things like shot consistency, photorealistic people and sets, and crowd scenes across a full movie? It isn't there yet, and there are questions about whether or not it ever can without wet quantum computing.

On one hand, we might get Passion of the Christ Mel Gibson and it would all be in actual Greek (or as close as we can get) but it would be a fucking SLOG (because unless you’re a believer, that movie is mid as fuck).
OR, we’d get Braveheart Mel Gibson and get a whole inaccurate depiction of the story but kind of a dope movie tbh
Passion of the Christ isn't mid, it's absolutely awful, and offensively bad. It is literally 90 minutes of graphic violence in a 2 hour movie. This is supposed to somehow reveal authenticity or value in faith?
I remember at the time people expressing it's worth as a religious film, which is utterly insane given that Christianity's central message is to 'love thy neighbour's, not be shocked into some form of trauma addiction with visuals of a man having his skin flayed off of him.
Jim Cavizel developed a messianic complex from making that film, and I can see why people have argued it is anti-Semitic. It's vulgar and just shows Gibson's belief violence has more value than reason as a vehicle for faith. Which, really makes him a massive iece of shit when you think about it.

Who cares about archaic Greek? The Odyssey was not even accurate to the time period when it was invented as a story. From it's origins as an oral tradition, it was anachronistic. It's a fairy tale rather a telling of a real event.
Being more historically grounded isn't a bad thing, but it's also not something that makes a telling inherently any better.
"Historically accurate", as in as it actually happened in real life even though its a mythological heroic epic written in Homeric Greek almost 3000 years ago?
Remember how before this movie came out SipsTea kept getting flooded with posts mocking Lupita Nyong'o and Elliot Page's casting as 'woke DEI historically inaccurate', which included just using racial slurs and complaining Lupita didn't look like an actual white porn actress? And people who pointed out it's not history and the white actors aren't 'historical' either, were downvoted?

I actually really want that to happen, because it will be so awful it'll change a lot of peoples' perception about generative AI replacing actual filmmakers.
