Term limits in congress would be a good first step. Out with old as they say

174

u/epicgrilledchees 16h ago

I think age limits. Plus candidates have to publicly take a civics/general knowledge test. Because a lot of these politicians would fail based on the idiotic statements they make.

85

u/Ok-Addition1264 15h ago

You have automatic retirement age for airline pilots.. I see no reason not to have the same for people that can take us into a war.

16

u/jfkrfk123 15h ago

Nailed it

12

u/monkwrenv2 14h ago

For that matter, don't high-ranking military officers have mandatory retirement ages, too?

3

u/AffectionateLife4449 6h ago

Yes but any rule can be overridden if needed, however congress should have hard fast cut off date.

I think public televised debates should be required and taken seriously! That’s on us to hold our politicians accountable!

23

u/epicgrilledchees 14h ago

With live fact check.

21

u/Beneficial_Bad_6692 13h ago

And they wear shock collars, if they tell a lie or don’t answer the question they get a shock

10

u/Rat-Bazturd 12h ago

need that for Conressional/Senate hearings for new Cabinet and Supreme Court nominees, and any Epstein hearings.

YES it IS possible to reasonably hold people’s assertions to a level of truth and accuracy. It’s not just all a big matter of opinion.

2

u/Tjam3s 9h ago

Not all, although there are a lot of things that are opinions that too many people confuse as facts

8

u/HombreDelMar247 7h ago edited 7h ago

Debates are good, but they need to be fact checked, and moderated especially for things like logic fallacies. The moderator needs to stop someone from using ad hominem attacks, stawman arguments, false dichotomies, ect.. These debate "tricks" can easily fool an uneducated person and let's face it, the average American is not known for being well educated.

The fact that our current POTUS and VP demanded no fact checking in their debates is just pathetic.

The only thing more pathetic is those who still support and believe theie lies. The number of adults over 65 who believe Trump's big lie that he won in 2020 is alarming.

u/HombreDelMar247 7h ago

All candidates need to demonstrate a basic understanding of civics, the US Government, history and the US Constitution.

It should be a prerequisite before their name is on the ballot.

I really do not think term limits will help given they will just find another marionette candidate that looks good, says the right thing but will ignore the what the people need and serve the oligarchy who propped him up.

This right here is a major problem with our 2 party system, most of the time both candidates are propped up and supporter by the oligarchy. Often the only way to money and the main stream media support needed to make it on the ticket is by being an oligarchy's puppet.

12

u/Dreemsi 16h ago

No one with criminal records, have to release previous 10 years of tax records, no BS excuses about audits.

8

u/CommentHappy7190 14h ago

No criminal records at all? So some dude that got arrested for weed as a youth, or some dude that got a disorderly charge cause he got too hammered with his friends are automatically denied entry to the government that makes the laws?

6

u/monkwrenv2 14h ago

That also makes it easier for a corrupt person in power to deal with their enemies. Just get them imprisoned on trumped up charges, boom, they can't run.

u/Possible-Koala-4752 7h ago

That and hold all politicians accountable for the promises they make during election season.

Whatever they promise needs to have a timeframe, specifics and if they're not upheld then their position is reconsidered and possibly revoked.

Plus the end of citizens united

14

u/OkRelief8451 15h ago

I don't think term limits are a good idea. I don't think that it would help as much as people think but also there is a real benefit to having a stable and well-connected person in international affairs. Plus if the person is a Bernie Sanders-type it'd be a shame to lose them just because.

No I think there's much better solutions. Repealing Citizens United would be my first step. but also try some new things out. For instance, required voting like Australia does. Ranked choice voting. Reducing party influence by removing the R or D from ballots and eliminating party primaries. Requiring each candidate to give a short, easy to understand synopsis of their beliefs fort a pamphlet that is given out before the election freely.

I'd support age limits before I'd support term limits.

9

u/Cowboywizzard 15h ago

Citizens United isn't a law that can be repealed. It was a court decision interpreting existing law. What we need is anti-corruption legislation with teeth.

4

u/Own_Bullfrog_3598 15h ago

You have some good arguments there. I would add make voting in elections an entire weekend holiday with polls open early and late both days, or something similar.

It's amazing to me just how terrible Democratic political consultants decision making is. On their advice they put substantial effort into keeping Hunter out of the spotlight and away from any journalists or public speaking, because there's just no way that people would accept a former drug addict, right.

Dude is pretty good at being a public personality, comes off as surprisingly down to earth. If they'd let Hunter speak for himself from the start Joe Biden's approval numbers would have probably improved by like 5 points.

3

u/tahtahme 15h ago

I thought the same years ago when he did an interview about being in active drug addiction "crawling on the floor trying to snort anything that resembled 'parmesan cheese'". Dems missed an opportunity with him, though admittedly if he was almost anyone else's son, even more people would see his likability with no caveats.

4

u/Zealousideal-Ad-2615 12h ago

These political consultants keep telling their candidates to support Israel and to not support Medicare for all. Both talking points are so toxic for the side they are on. The average dem has almost nothing in common with their representative.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/ArtemisiaOrthia 13h ago

Recovered drug addicts, in my experience, tend to have suffered through hell and have a strong sense of empathy and personal responsibility. They know how tough life can be for people, and how one is responsible for their actions even if the system they're a part of is adversarial. Not sure I necessarily agree with all his politics or takes but he seems like a very decent person.

2 wings of the same bird... let's fight about which wing is better or worse when both are equally essential to keep this illusion of democracy flying right over our heads. An American government worthy of trust hasn't existed in the lifetime of anyone alive today. The blatantly apparent nature of these politicians and lawmakers is to manipulate and deceive the people as they distort the truth as means for their own selfish ends, regardless of the party that's currently backing them... keeping that "good cop/bad cop" scheme alive as a tactic to distract us from noticing that they both wear the same badge

2

u/bethesda_gamer 15h ago edited 15h ago

So close. Remember follow the money to the end. It goes higher. It's not in their best interest for the country to literally fall apart, all their stuff is here.

...but you know who's best interest it would be in... we are in the new cold war and this is how it's being fought. Using our own media and social platforms to tear us apart from within because it can't be done directly.

2

u/metsy73 15h ago

2

u/NanoYohaneTSU 15h ago

2

u/Prize-Analyst-1121 14h ago

He's speaking the truth on that. Corporate America, Wall Street and the billionaires have bought both sides of our politicians. They keep we the people divided and fighting each other. While the politicians and other entities mentioned all get richer, living long stress free lives riding the gilded gravy train. Meanwhile we the people fall farther and farther behind. Breaking our bodies down just trying to afford the minimum basics for survival and dying early.

GET RID OF ANY AND ALL DONATIONS !!! Until politicians can't profit from selling out the people and actively working against we the people's best interest. NOTHING will change and it'll only get worse.

2

u/smithandjones99 14h ago

Yes and we have already remedied this over and over in Congress but the Supreme Court overturns the laws duly passed.  Allowing unlimited corporations and foreign influence in politics is ridiculous but the Supremes ignore the will of the people.  Overturn Citizen’s United already!

2

u/Suspicious_Loss_84 7h ago

This sounds nice, but unfortunately gets a big part of the problem wrong. Yes, Americans are “being divided” because of emphasis by the media on cultural divisions and drama rather than factual or political information. But a little less than half of Americans voted (and continue to vote) for this. They aren’t being duped, they aren’t being deceived or manipulated, the current government is doing exactly what they want it to do. They don’t hate billionaires, they love and worship them. They don’t hate money in politics, they encourage it. They don’t despise corruption, they just don’t like it when their tax dollars are used for things they don’t like or perceive that are going to the “undeserving”. The current climate we have is due to the fact that American’s have continually CHOSEN this path through their political and economic choices. If you have the energy and patience, The Moral Basis of a Backwards Society is a good book on where I think we are at currently.

And yet it was Joe Biden who (back when he was Senator) made it impossible to discharge student loan debt in a bankruptcy. So let’s not pretend the Biden family were the working man’s champion.

I love that Hunter Biden is making his way into American Hearts. ❤️

Isn't this the guy who got paid millions by the Ukraine government in order for them to get access to his father, the President of the United States?

He's complaining about Oligarchy?

I agree Hunter but your family is not innocent.

2

u/Casshern_VIII 6h ago

Ok now someone tell Mark the people he voted for are also part of who Hunter is talking about, the man has first hand experience seeing it happen, also let's get Hunter Biden the presidency.

I don't like the both-sidesism.

"The left" generally still tries to improve workers rights, achieve a fairer distribution of wealth, expand access to healthcare and promote acceptance of others. For the most part, it is still engaged in class politics. It's often half-corrupt, half-disillusioned and frequently does a poor job but those goals are still on its banner and many of its representatives still try to pursue them.

"The right", by contrast, has increasingly become a vehicle for culture war. It advances the interests of the wealthy and powerful and uses cultural conflicts to divert attention away from economic issues that affect the majority.

There's a substantial difference between the two. One side is largely responsible for dragging everyone into the mud, while the other is at least trying to avoid that. Sure, by the nature of a mud fight, everyone involved ends up looking dirty but that doesn't mean there aren't substantial differences.

In the case of the US, the Democrats are such a broad tent that it's difficult to treat it as a single ideological movement. At the end of the day, those in power are usually not the reformers who actually want significant change. But even so, they're at least not actively trying to make things worse.

who better to know than Biden himself.

2

u/funplete_hoy_88 6h ago

isn't he the burisma cunt?

2

u/Expert_Tradition8457 5h ago

Wow, he knows so much about his own family

2

u/BaconReceptacle 5h ago

America is now turning to crackheads for wisdom.

2

u/QuartersWest 5h ago

Lol.

This is the oracle of the left? Scumbag all his life but take his advice, you reddit tards

2

u/generation_fish 5h ago

From the dude that made millions, while being a worthless crack head, because he used his daddy's name and access. Oh...and his daddy helped do it.

2

u/Rameist2 4h ago

Hunter Biden is dropping some serious one liners recently… buuut he is an oligarch and has participated actively in all the elements that he is talking about. I hope he is sincerely turning an important page, but brother you made millions from being an oligarch yourself.

2

u/Tasty_Stress3524 4h ago

Looking to Hunter Biden for knowledge is a sure sign you’re lost

2

u/BootBonks 4h ago

This dude talks about an oligarchy as if he didn’t receive a preemptive presidential pardon.

Mf you ARE the oligarchy.

2

u/gwap1997 4h ago

Hey that crackheads gotta point!

2

u/Inspirationseekr 4h ago

He is a great example of why drugs can be good sometimes.

2

u/Firm_Pirate5532 4h ago

So has hunter switched sides? Is he no longer supporting the democrat party? It looks like he had a lot of scathing real words to say about the party that he has been attached to. Did he see too much? What was happening under his dad's administration? Knowing that obama was in control of his dad.

2

u/Odd-Pipe-5972 2h ago

Bro, you grew up in that oligarchy. You were and are a part of it. Term limits don't matter. The new ones will be bought and paid for before we can even blink. Not to mention you're at least 20 years too late. People have known this for decades

2

u/Stoneman66 1h ago

Wow I never heard a blacker pot calling the kettle black

2

u/Ok-Classroom-6339 1h ago

Says the man who benefitted from this looting.

4

u/Its_a_Stanzo 16h ago

You know we're fuq'd when Hunter Biden is the only adult in the room.

3

u/Mescalito14 11h ago

But he is not. Bet you a $1000 he did not write that.

This is being put out with his picture to see how strongly people will defend the words of an admitted crack addict, brother who slept with his brother’s widow, multiple years of tax evasion, firearms charges, possible Ukraine and China pay offs leading to more tax charges and conflict of interest for his father and the entire Democratic Party.

He is the last person whose words can be trusted.

So says the crack head!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/ACrimeSoClassic 15h ago

I truly can't stand Trump, but are we seriously looking at Hunter fucking Biden for our inspirational quotes?

3

u/Fastballz69 15h ago

Fuck that pedo fuck.

2

u/FirePenguinMaster 14h ago

I too love to get my political perspectives from crack addicts

3

u/Dztrctd 12h ago

The comment isn’t surprising, but coming from one of the most famous nepo-babies who has profited from the same system is ironic to the max (& no I am not one of the Trump minions).

3

u/cottontop_bomber 8h ago

When you look at who looted the tax payer. Does California and Minnesota come to mind? When you think about who profited from the dividing of America. Does Nancy, Ilhan and Bernie come to mind?

3

u/Shinlyle13 8h ago

You're listening to the actor who unzipped his pants on stage at an awards show who is listening to an admitted drug addict. Might want to reevaluate who you guys listen to.

4

u/Morbid_Aversion 7h ago

The prominence of Hunter Biden of late makes me worry that the democrats will once again make the dumbest decision possible when choosing their presidential candidate

Really getting tired of all the political stuff on here
