Discussion Baggage Tricks (even though they don't matter)

I'll preface this by saying that bags, in this game, don't matter a whole lot.
I installed the "Airport Stats (TBFlash)" mod that showed all kind of interesting stats from the game. The one that caught my eye was "Lost Bags", of which there were hundreds sometimes, if not thousands. They don't matter, but I wanted to know how to fix it to the lowest number I could figure out.

;tl;dr (here's a picture of what I'm talking about)

https://imgur.com/a/iYcfwF8

There might be other threads that talk about this, I didn't notice so in case, here's what I found.

The lost luggage is not the arrivals luggage, it's the checked bags for departure that is the problem.

There are two problems that cause this:

1> Baggage cars loading the bags do not wait for all bags to arrive at the depot before loading a plane. Bags that arrive at the depot after the baggage car starts its loading at the depot are ignored and left behind.

2> Planes that arrive and use a standby gate will get NO luggage if their original gate and the standby gate are serviced by different baggage depots.

How did I fix this? With the changes below, I went from 600-1000 bags out of a typical day of 15,000 down to 50 or less.

1> Use chains of closely connected hubs instead of long conveyor belts.

Get the luggage to the depot as FAST as possible. Conveyor belts are SLOW. Baggage hubs, when connected together in a chain, will move a baggage nearly 4x faster across your airport. A baggage hub will pass a bag through itself in the same time frame as it takes for it to pass through just 1 conveyor belt "square".

Join your hubs together to span the distance from your check in desk and your depot.

Connect hubs together with ONLY TWO conveyor elements max is the key to this working effectively. Doing it this way means the need for hub "boosters" on any of these hubs are not needed. You may need some at the beginning of your baggage chain if you have multiple tickets booths feeding a hub, but if you connect hubs together with 2 conveyor elements, they will pass right through all the other hubs without modification.

Using 3 or more conveyor elements, then the hub will try to process the bags, requiring boosters and SLOWING your bags down, which is what you want to avoid doing.

2> Feed all your gates to the same luggage depot.

If you have all your bags go to the same depot, standby planes will get their bags, reducing the count considerably. My airport has 42 gates, 250+ flights, all fed from the same hub. NO problems. Looks messy, but it functionally good.

Other things:

You can have as many ticket booths connected to the same conveyor as you want. Typically, you run a conveyor belt to a baggage hub and then add ticket booths to that conveyor belt. The game says 5, but you can connect far more than that, dozens. However, should you wish to modify the conveyor between the ticket booth(s) and the first hub, you'll need to reduce the ticket booth count down to 5 or less. Connections after that hub are unaffected.

What do you guys do with the space under gates that require boarding from the second floor? Im building an airport rn and just expanded to large gates but have a bunch of extra space under the concourse. What do you recommend I put there?

Question Security efficiency

What is your security layout ? I’ve been playing for few years and tried different layout but I didn’t found a good and efficient one.

If you have pictures of it I would appreciate!
Thanks 🙏🏽

Question Passengers take a really weird route through checkin.

Post image

I have a path straight down the middle of my checkin area as you can see, and that allows access to every queue in the room

my passeners are constantly refusing to go down the middle, they squeeze through any gap they can find, walk along the wall or the desks, and then come out at the end. its definitely not the shortest route, and every time i block the path they find another ridiculous one

Got it flowing well. Airlines at 100% satisfaction and passengers at 90%. I will look at kitchens, retail, 1st class, and flight crew next to finish it off.

Question Unable to remove runway

Hi! I'm having a bit of hard time, I want to remove one of my runway so I can extend it. One time I cancel it bc I need the runway but now I want to demolish it so I can build a longer one, all the upgrades were removed but the asphalt part is still there and I'm unavailable to remove it....

Any idea how can I remove the runway?

Question Getting across the street?

My airport is only serviced by light rail. There’s no buses besides one every couple hours.

Cars are also common since I have provided parking

I built an underpass underneath my road, because the passengers frequently going to the light rail platform would constantly clogged up the traffic (I have nearly 20,000 daily passengers)

Well, they literally are just not taking this underpass they keep going across the street even though there’s a viable escalator way down and across the tracks and street

I even put some plants down there and some vending machines but instead they seem to just kind of wander around and complain or just go across the street where there’s no crosswalk and still caused the same issues

Does anyone have any suggestions or do I have to just stick with them clogging up my road?

problems with baggage system

Everything in my systems seems to work fine, but my baggage carts don't pick up the last batch of bags at the depot before the plane leaves. For example, flight 551 is at the gate with 34 out of 40 bags loaded. The other 6 are at the depot assigned to that gate, but the carts go back to the hangar and don't pick them up, and the plane leaves. What am I doing wrong?

Question Better fast forward performance?

Post image
28 Upvotes

I prefer to run the game at high speed, as im always adding more to my airport, and i cant be hanging around waiting for construction at 1x speed. Problem is ive got a lot of gates (image) and running at 12x speed causes a hell of alot of passengers to miss tasks and slow down, so my flights barely board anyone and satifaction drops

This has been a problem for a while i know, are there any less known mods that help improve performance for fast forwarding

Question Passengers wont get on bus to remote gate

i dont know if this is a bug or just me not knowing how to play but my departing passengers wont board the bus to the remote gate, arriving passengers get taken to arrivals easily but they go to a seperate bus dropoff connected to arrivals, my departing passengers get to a small terminal for bus pickups via an underground tunnel but when they get there, they just sit there, even if the plane is boarding, the bus arrives but nobody checks in or boards the bus and just sit there forever. how do i fix this? (the flight crew wont board either)

Or a major update to the first one.

Otherwise how can one explain this job advert posting last month by the games developer?

Bug Baggage hub does not want to work properly

Yellow = Baggage Depot // Pink = Broken Conveyor // Green = Ticketing Desk (it works tho)

Basically, the pink conveyor won't take any baggage but the other side works perfectly fine which means a workman is permanently moving those baggage... I tried saving and loading with no result :(

Underground bus stops

Hey guys,

So I've started playing the game again after a few years.

Noticed that you can put bus stops underground so I put down a bunch of them.

Now that they are up though it says you need access to the terminal?

The bus stops are quite litteraly in the underground terminal. I've tried putting doors between the sections etc. nothing seems to work :(

Is it even possible to have underground remote gate pickup?

I'm trying to maximise the amount of ground floor space I can dedicate to the gates themselves.

Image Maximum negative money in sandbox

Post image

I recently started playing again and am in sandbox mode, but without the infinite money option. However, I noticed that I can go into negative values.

Is this because I'm in sandbox mode?

Is there a limit to negative money?

Given this, it completely eliminates the need to take out loans.

Image Back in the game since 2021

I recently took a trip, and it sparked my desire to play SimAirport since the last time in 2021.

But I loaded a save game and now I remember why I stopped at the time.

Is it “smoother”?

Is it possible to expand the terrain beyond what I show in the image?

Is there any kind of mod I should use besides the airlines and personalized kiosks like Pizza Hut, kebabs, etc?

Thank you

Question Mod for fuel pricing model?

Is there a mod that adds an option for fuel pricing model of "basis +%"

So instead of constantly keeping tabs on it to maintain profitability you could instead just say "whatever the value of the fuel in the reserve is, add x percent to that".
