One on the left is 15.65 grams and the one on the right is 5.4 grams

These look like just like a Gold Tael and are probably the same size... but at 31.1grams each, they weight less (a Tael is typically a Chinese weight of 37.5 grams). I'm going to store a volume of these for jewellery and related melt purposes ...for projects a little further down the track. I'm anticipating a surge in Silver pricing later this year and that's going to make it harder to buy or locate these inedible silver treats when it becomes scarcer. I got into Silver way back in 2004 when it was about AUD $7 a Troy ounce... so I'm finding the current price (of almost AUD $100 an ounce for most 1oz coins etc) to be a little abrasive.

First time silver stacker

So far I've gathered $10.75 of .999 US coinage. Sat here thinking to myself its a shame they took this from us.

Can someone tell me if there is a good Reddit to help identify silver hallmarks?

The chain in the first picture isn’t the one I found, that’s in my drawer. (It’s a place holder lol) But I found a 925 broken chain. I don’t know what the Coach is, maybe brass? It’s not magnetic… 🤷🏼 and it’s Coach.

I found the cross ring a couple days ago and it looks like someone was constantly bending it and threw it out (in the parking lot… for me to clean up… along with some candy wrappers all silver is 925 except the coins, 2 1950 Canadian dimes and a 53 quarter.

My favorite ring that I never take off of cracked down the center and I’m bummed about that but adding it to the stack!
Imma post it in a second for recommendations on whether to get it repaired or just stop wearing it.

The second picture is like 90% of my stack I’m either wearing the rest of its in my drawer. It’s starting to feel like a pretty respectable stack though.

This was back in October 2025. I decided to melt 2 partial sterling silver flatware sets that I bought long ago off ebay.  IIRC they were pretty much spot at the time and I paid roughly $1200 for one and $800 for the other.

Sterling flatware is really nice but you really only use it maybe twice a year and the kids don't want it so I figured might as well take advantage of better prices.  I calculated roughly 122 oz. at $48 silver would be in the $5000 area.  

Called 2 local sterling buyers, one a pretty big outfit that seems to buy a lot and they bid $1500.

On the phone with the smelter, the deal is $75 fee and then 95% of silver content.
Knives are $1 each extra charge.  They grab the blade, bash the handle with a chisel hammer on an anvil until it is loose, shake out the glue/cement and add it to the crucible.  This place had a few different sized smelters to handle even larger amounts.  They did wire brush the bar to make it look pretty.  While x-raying, he said sterling always says 925 but that has never happened with an assay.

X-ray 90.02% Ag
3264.94 gms or 105 oz Ag. You get 95% of this, so {(3264.94 x .95)/31.1] x 49 spot = $4886 - $91 = $4785

I traded the bar for a krugerrand and $710 cash.

We found antique serving spoons in my mother in laws closet. She recently passed so we are trying to organize everything. Can anyone help identify these?

Was asked from an uncle for help with this box. Anything of significance here? Potentially silver‑gilt? I can't make out distinguishing marks. "1862," "84," and "BC" look to be repeated on the inside top and bottom, the number 84 is repeated on the front lip next to maybe ∅ 15 or something. It's approx 2.9" x 1.8" x .65" (74mm x 45mm x 17mm) Anyone have any ideas?

So sure, I may have paid a little premium for the “Dune” coin but I’ve been a fan since I watched the very first movie in the 80’s, and I’m a fan of Chinese panda coins but this one was a SGB exclusive so I bought it, anyway I hope you guys like the coins as much as I do

So I bought 4 culled silver American eagles for 280 bucks. Not the best deal but heard not a complete rip off. Wondered how you do this you just buy a little every year? Is it just me or the price kinda high right now?

What do you reckon I should get from someone like a jewler or collected for my sterling saxophone (alto)
