I'm super curious. Found this sub literally minutes ago, and I'm sold. I just can't eat oranges without my abdomen flaring up in pain. Same with lemons. And it Sucks, because I actually love them but my body doesn't.

Short time lurker, first time poster - it did not take long to do it after first learning about this idea. It intrigued me a lot, therefore it was duly done.

It’s indeed oddly comforting, as the defining feature of eating an orange in shower would be. In fact, it was one of the rare moments when I felt truly relaxed. Really, it’s in the Top 3 for the last stressful year.

It’s odd and unthinkable for many, therefore eating it in secret also adds up the thrill - nobody out of family or friends will know this, and it will only be passed to my future spouse.

Though I am not going to incorporate this into everyday shower, since it would break the essence of this tiny quirky ritual. It will be reserved for special occasions.

Bonus point: chewing on zest after you’re done gives you a very nice finish.

Showering in complete darkness, the green hues of a textured window: the only glimpse of light I saw. Flash photography. Hot water running through my hair, over my face, down my spine… tracing every contour of my body before disappearing into the drain.

My orange, I had to get a taste.

First bite. Glorious. Sucking in its juices. Tingling skin around my lips reacting to its peel. Sweetness chased by bitterness. I kept going back, I had to dig in. There was no stopping, I was in a trance.

Zappa’s Watermelon in Easter Hay on repeat. Time dissolved into it. I was in an altered state where sensation replaces the passage of time.

I could hear my neighbor’s children playing, they were laughing and running around.

Don’t let it bother you.

Concentrate on this moment, this feeling, this taste, this warmth, this darkness. This is all that matters right now. Ripping this fruit apart and savaging it with no regards, make a mess. Juice dripping down my wrists, pooling at my elbows before falling away. Fingernails sinking into flesh, tearing through membranes that gave way with almost no resistance. I am surrendering to sensation.

When squeezing the peels in my hand became ineffective, I resorted to using my feet. Grinding them into the floor. Their texture; what a feeling. Soft pulp collapsing beneath my weight, thick rind refusing until it finally yielded. Citrus filled the room. Intoxicating. Bright. Alive. It clung to the humid air, to my hands, to my skin.

Eventually, I left after a long session. Stepped out. Went into my room, still naked. Laid down, still in darkness. Air drying, my guilty pleasure. Eyes closed, music playing. My skin cooling slowly, tiny currents of air moving across the beads of water that still lingered.

Sudden pressure…

my cat jumped onto my upper back. He settled in, lays down. He is purring heavily. Rubbed his head against mine. Whiskers tickling my cheeks, paws kneading softly into my hand. A thought intrudes. I worry, I am naked. I hesitate…

I stop. I let go. Carry on with this animalistic ritual. After all, this is what it is all about, isn’t it?

Experience it, immerse yourself fully.

Perhaps this is all a ritual. Not to become someone else. Just to remember what it feels like to inhabit a body.

Tomorrow, the orange peels will be dry. The shower will be cold. The music will end. But tonight, in the darkness, I was completely here. I know this feeling won’t last.

That’s why I stay a little longer.
