Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 Indoor Booties? Arizona? Dimwitted parents

Hey team, so my parents got a puppy that basically I take care of and my mom likes as a sleeping stuffed animal and thats about it. Hes a ball of energy and recently they got hardwood floors. Obviously his energy is still full tilt, but hes like bambi on the hardwood. Do yall suggest anything for when he gets the zoomies that he doesnt just get stressed out and start crying?

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 Size differences in the breed are so extreme

I have a new puppy and was comparing her growth chart to my purebred Shih Tzu from 15 years ago. My previous dog was 7.5 lbs at 11 weeks old and ended up a whopping 24lbs. My new baby is 2.8 lbs at the same age. Breeder thinks she will land between 7.5-8.5 full grown.

You ask Bubbles what she's doing, and boom—instant freeze. Just her tiny paws, leaning right into the planter, looking as guilty and adorable as ever. ❤️🫧

It’s time I post the little knight who has championed my heart. Little Wallace, also known as Wally. The 25th will mark my first month with him. I got him for my 35th birthday and I could not be happier. The last puppy I had, well over 10 years ago, was such a challenge. She made me wonder if I ever wanted a puppy again.
Wallace has shown me a love and light I cannot get enough of. My first two days with him I just cried 😂 I could not believe what a wonderful little dog I got. He also gets along amazingly with my cat Bigby. He is so sweet and brave and curious. And now, I’m obsessed with the Shih Tzu breed. I have been loving my lurking here and seeing all the beautiful babies.

Bird Dog (front) and Joe Dog (back) share a sire but are polar opposites. She's sweet and docile, while he's dramatic and bossy. She's big-bodied while he's a slight and small guy. Bird has a longer snout and does not snort but Joe has a squashed face and had to have a nose-job *flavectomy* bc he couldn't breathe well and snorted theatrically. Birdie is giving me the eyes because I had to take a picture before I gave her the treat in my hand. 😅

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 1st backwards sneeze …

My baby, 8 months, just had his first backwards sneeze spasm a little bit ago. I rubbed his throat and put up his head so he can swallow and it’ll stop but I now think he’s traumatized :(
He got really meek and quiet immediately after and i had him sit in my lap. He’s now running into his crate and sulking whenever he even snorts a little (which is common for him every now and then).

Is this normal to have this type of reaction? Do we think maybe his throat is sore or something ? I just hope this reaction and him being afraid won’t last … I feel really bad. Not sure what to do.

We took my stinker to the vet and apparently they saw a very full belly. He started throwing up last night so he needs another x ray. Wish my little trouble maker luck because the vet may be going in.

Dolly’s had a few beach trips now and loves it! Not so much the deep water, but goes for a paddle! Also taken to stealing my spot on the sofa 🥲

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 skin tag tips please

Thumbnail

Have you dealt with similar skin tag irritations or skin tags in general on your tzu? Any tips you can share? What kind of cream or meds were prescribed or given?

I noticed this skin tag on my tzu months ago, and I didn't really worry about it because my tzu doesn't seem to mind it. He simply doesn't care. When I touch it to check, he isn't in pain at all. Earlier today, I noticed it flared up a bit. I took photos and sent them to our vet. He suspects it flared up because of an irritation or abrasion (see that tiny red dot on the first photo), probably brought about by friction from the harness or the floor.

The vet will be coming over tomorrow to do a physical exam (the clinic is just nearby, and the vet insisted on doing the home service option).

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 He needs a name

I have had this little guy for about 3-4 weeks now and I cannot pick a name for him.. He is incredibly mischievous, so my dad affectionately calls him "monster" and jokingly says that should be his name. I have gravitated towards names like Benny, Bino and Charlie, but none feels right for him.. I would love some suggestions as I'm getting tired of reading lists online..

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 What is your shih tzu's personality like? If you had multiple over the years, did their behavior differ a lot?

My shih tzu that I love very much turned 14 recently and it's been really hard to accept. I'm aware we probably don't have that much time left and I've been thinking about what to do next. He is my first dog and is the most loving, interactive, yet smart dog I've ever met. He understands a lot of words, sits down on my lap whenever I sit down on the couch, and always comes when called or asked to do something (for example when asked to stop while walking.) He never had any behavior issues, is always very gentle and friendly. He's also quiet, and only barks when he's very excited about something.

Most other dogs I've met (non shih tzus) weren't like this. I'd really love to get another one, but I'm worried he was a "special case" and I won't love the next one as much, maybe it sounds ridiculous, I just can't imagine my life without him. How is your dog's personality? If you had multiple shih tzus, did their behavior differ a lot? Do you think my worry is irrational?
