Meta Complaining about race related issues on /r/sheridan

Hi folks! It's me, the one person who moderates the subreddit!

Over the past few years there has been an uptick in posts complaining about international students, specifically students from India. Indeed, as of the 2021 census (and actually since 2011), India makes up the largest nation of immigrants to Ontario! As the largest minority immigrant group, it is disappointing (though unsurprising) that they have been made the most recent target of ridicule.

While I will acknowledge that norms may be different accross cultures, this doesn't give a license to post unoriginal, low-effort put-downs disparaging a group of people based on their background. The topic of "international students are bad and I don't like them" doesn't really create any opportunities for discourse related to Sheridan College and as such, I usually remove these posts under rule 6. If you have problems with Canada's immigration policies, I suggest you direct your comments to your federal member of parliment.

Unfortunately, I'm getting somewhat tired of this task. Moderating an online community is an often thankless (unpaid!) job, and while I'm not asking for praise, I'm also not really having fun! The time for new mods is coming, but until that day arrives here's the deal:

I don't want to police this topic anymore and I will likely lean a little heavier on the ban-hammer going forward. It is much easier for me to ban you than to continue to remove your posts.

Play nice.

Academics Semester 3+4 Course selection/date help

Upvotes

hi! for reference (cause I know the title may be confusing for needing to add semester 3 and 4 classes together in one schedule) I'm in VCA year 2, I was supposed to be finished this year in April but I will be finished in December due to unintentional missing requirements. I didn't know until it was of course way to late that I needed to do 3D, 2D, and Drawing Sem 3, by adding them a certain way on the timetable. I wasn't able to just place them because it would say my schedule is too full. I tried to ask for help, got no response and just thought it wasn't important until ofc I learned it is later on.

so if anyone who also did VCA and added the 3D, 2D and Drawing Sem 3 (including an elective Sem 4) courses the specific way you were supposed to, can you please inform me how, if it's still necessary or if I can just place them this time because it's all I need. Every other semester 3 and 4 class I did. If it's not necessary then and I can just place the date for course selection for 2nd year is July 29 correct? (Also I will still be considered a 2nd year student and not a third when I'm kinda a "second and a half" year student cuz im not done lol.

if u made it this far and can help me, thx! i rlly appreciate it :)

Question Two enrollment appointment windows?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm a returning second year in PBCPDE. I assumed my enrollment period would be 7/29 based on this: https://myotr.sheridancollege.ca/sot.html

Does anyone have any idea why there are two sessions listed and what's going on with the start dates? I tested to see if I could register and it failed.

Admissions Application stuck at incomplete item but no email from Admission

Hello,

I have pending application with Sheridan that has been stuck on pending item English credits since June. I have been waiting for them to email me the invite to complete the English proficiency test but they are not doing it and I have been advised to take online test instead which is more expensive at taking it through Sheridan. Do they not have anyone in the Admissions department anymore?

Academics Bachelors of Experiential Design - grads/current students share your thoughts!

The most recent post I can find regarding this program was from 2 years ago and it had no replies, so I'm shooting my own shot in hopes of getting some more information.

Is anyone in this sub currently enrolled in this program? If so, how do you like it? What are your career prospects and what made you enroll?

I have an ambitious dream of getting into the themed entertainment industry and have a background in graphic design. I've been looking at this program as a possible way to expand my skillset and get my foot in the door of the industry. I am, however, also no longer fresh 18 with a whole life ahead of me, so just wondering if the 4 year commitment is worth it for me.

Any and all information is valued!! TIA

Housing Hi guys Im looking for a roommate to live together

Hi Im 20 years old female and I just got here as an international student. Im from South Korea, and now currently looking for a roommate to live in Etobicoke. My budget is up to 1200$ and it would be fine in other areas except Etobicoke. I just prefer somewhere convenient to reach downtown Toronto. Just feel free to text me if you are looking for a roommate. Im actually flexible for a region as long as the budget and room condition are gonna be fine.
