[SRA2] Drain questions

  1. The rules state that the drain effects adds to the already existing complications effect. I don't understand why the rules say that a catastrophe (getting three 1s on risk dice) generate an incapacitating wound (I don't know the exact name in english, I have french rules). After all, any catastrophe generates incapacitation. Why adding this if it's already there ?
  2. The critical glitch (two 1s on risk dice) generates a light wound. If i understand correctly, drain will then generate a total of 1 light wound from drain and 1 heavy wound from the usual critical glitch. Is this right ?

Questions about Essence loss

In SRA2, the first and third point of essence lost each cancel a hit on magic-related tests. This applies to spells the character casts of course, but what about spells and abilities that affect them? Crucially: Does a heal spell cast on a cyborg suffer both the magic and the healing penalties from essence loss? And if so, does essence loss make it harder to land a manabolt on the same cyborg? Or a buff spell?

i'm a bit torn on what i'd want the rule to be - it feels consistent with other rules that say 'if theres high tech in there, its harder to magic it' and also makes cybered characters feel less defenseless against the dreaded manabolt. On the other hand, it makes it harder to do support magic between players, and i like when players have synergies.

(GM Support) Explaining Risk

Hoi chummers,

I've been running Anarchy 2.0 for a few weeks now and I quite like the system and can appreciate the different direction they went with this version. Where I run into issues is with the Risk/RR system, specifically, how to explain it to others.

For some reason that I can't understand, any way that I try and explain it to somebody isn't successful. I understand how it works, and it makes sense to me, but conveying that information and understanding to others just doesn't work well. Some of my current players are newer to dice pool systems but others have been playing in our usual SR 4e game for around three years and grasp the mechanics easier. The best way that someone in the group has conveyed it was "You're gambling" with the dice which conveys the theme of it fairly well, I feel like. Which is helpful, considering when I try and explain how the Risk system works (you get twice the successes per hit but you have the chance of getting complications) this doesn't seem to be enough information to extrapolate that you use the Risk dice to get more hits when you need them at the cost of potential problems.

Explaining RR results in similar issues, I've found. I get it, but it's been a struggle to help others get it.

What are some ways you all have had success explaining and conveying how the Risk/RR system works in the game since I don't seem to be able to do so effectively without ending up in 5-10 minute conversations that double back on themselves and leave some players more confused and frustrated than clarified. I've gone so far as to consider assigning players to read the Risk/RR section in the book like homework because if it's me and the way that I try and explain it, then maybe reading the actual rules will be of more benefit.

Thanks in advance!

How do you interpret Danger Sense?

Hey there! I had a question about how you've been interpreting the Danger Sense adept power.

The CRB on 191 provides the following:
"Danger Sense: (Rating 1 Adept power Amp, 5,000¥) allows you to sense an imminent threat without any Perception Test; however, no further details are provided."

On the same page, the flavor text provides that of Adept abilities, they can possess "a sixth sense alerting them of danger" and "some of their gifts enhance their mental abilities, giving them an innate sense of danger."

How do you run this/how do you understand this rule? For instance, suppose the team has just met with a contact. The contact is about to be eliminated by a sniper before he can talk. Suppose a sniper is hidden 1000 feet away and is looking through his scope. Which of the following situations would lead to the party's Adept's Danger Sense activating?

  1. No additional facts needed. A sniper being active nearby is enough to constitute an imminent threat.

  2. The sniper draws a bead on the contact. Danger Sense activates because there is an imminent threat, and the power doesn't specify the threat has to be to the Adept; the Adept's contact being threatened is enough.

  3. The sniper draws a bead on the contact. Regardless of the relationship the Adept has to the person being targeted, that person is under imminent threat.

  4. The sniper looks down his scope and swings his crosshair over to the contact. As he swings it over, his crosshair passes over the Adept, but he has no intention of shooting her. Regardless, the power activates because a rifle being pointed at you is an imminent threat.

  5. The sniper looks down his scope and swings his crosshair over to the contact. As he swings it over, his crosshair passes over the Adept and he lets it linger there for a few moments while deciding whether to violate his orders and kill the Adept in addition to the contact, but he decides against it. The power activates the moment he lingers on the Adept and considers shooting.

Personally I think in this situation 1, 2, and 3 should not activate Danger Sense, 4 should probably activate it, and 5 definitely should activate it. My gut says that the Adept's mystically acute powers are protecting the adept, not the people around them; however, I could see a counterargument that the Adept's magically sharp powers of perception and instinct detect danger even unrelated to the Adept themselves.

What do you folks think? How would you run it (or in the alternative, is there already something in the book that answers this question and I've just missed it)? Any ideas and assistance are welcome - thank you!

What should 'ignoring wound mods' cost?

As title, SRA 2.0. How many amp levels would you price the ability to ignore wound mods at? I didn't fnd it in either the core book or the expanded amp catalog, though I might have just missed it.

Judging by the core book drugs that include it - alcohol, bliss and Cram - I'd guess it was 3 levels (assuming that the 'disadvantage on X'-type drawbacks are evaluated at -2 and the 'take a serious wound' one is worth -4.) Does that sound right?

(I'm looking to make a pain editor bioware amp.)

Physical books are coming ! (BBE side)

Not a post with a lot of information, but people may be interested by the fact some backers (in this situation, me) have received the physical CRB and GM screen.

I think it will be a bit longer for USA and south america (since there's an additionnal step with Catalyst), but the long wait is over soon. :)

Greatest differences SRA 2.0 and SR 4/5

Hi,

I want to start a new SR round with a couple of friends, most of them know sr 4/5. I read a bit about SRA 2.0 and it seems intriguing to me. We are still deciding on what system to choose. What would you say are the greatest differences and selling points for sra 2.0?

How many Risk Dice do NPC average hits calculate with in SRA2.0?

It must be just me missing the answer to the question in the title somehow. Could anyone point me to the relevant section in the CRB, please? Or, in case it's not there (I doubt that, but it might happen), does anyone with a better statistical skill than mine (especially on any given Sunday morning, lol) make an educated guess?

Is rolling Risk Dice even a thing for NPCs? (When the GM decides to roll instead of using the pre-calculated average hits.)

Thanks.

Shadowrun Anarchy 2 Character Generator App

Thumbnail

I posted a few months ago about the Character Generator app I created to handle all the rules for for Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0. It handles all the char gen rules from the book and includes nice features like an animated dice roller that handles risk dice, Discord integration, both a digital char sheet (play from your phone or tablet) and a PDF printable character sheet.

Link is https://pedxing.us

Everything from the book and the Extended Amps List document are included in the app. There is easy to use search functionality.

You can also create campaigns and even add your own equipment, spells, and shadow amps for your game or character.

Upload photos and keep notes!

Lots more features, completely free as a give-back to the community.

When you create a login it asks for an email. As I say in the demo, I do not use this email in any way! Its only purpose is so you can reset your password if you forget it. Otherwise, there's no way to get back in. I don't verify this email in anyway so you can totally use a fake one if you don't trust me.

This has been play tested by my group for several months now and seems solid. I have also implemented several requests from people from the previous thread. Feel free to request any additional functionality you'd like to see.

Opinions about Shadowrun Anarchy V2

I started playing SR with the 5th edition, and I was hooked by the setting, but less so by the system. So I tried Anarchy and it was pretty great, aside from the armor rules (which I changed) and the Anarchy points rules (which I don't use because I find it redundant with luck points).

But I see that there is a second edition of SRA and I might be interested. I'm assuling they updated the lore (which I mostly get from the Internet) but I also wanted to know what were the changes in terms of rules, and if buying the book was worth it.

If you tried SRA2, could you give me your feedback so I can decide wether I buy it or stick with SRA ?

Thanks omae

SRA2 Custom character and NPC sheets

Hey chummers,

After spending way too many hours fighting with MS word, I’ve finally packaged and uploaded my Shadowrun Anarchy v2 Custom character and NPC sheets to DriveThruRPG!

While Word layout engines can be an absolute nightmare to tame, I wanted to share the final result with the community.

What’s in the payload?

The PDF Version: Clean, print-ready, and designed à la carte. You can mix and match different front pages (for core stats) and back pages (for amps, additional vehicles, notes, ...) depending on what your runner needs. It also includes NPC sheets and Condition Monitor trackers.

The DOCX Version: Fully editable in Microsoft Word (fonts are embedded) so you can pre-fill your sheets or tweak the layout to your liking.

Examples: A few pre-filled sample sheets to show you how it looks.

A quick heads-up on the DOCX formatting:

Word can be pretty capricious. To save your sanity, I highly recommend editing the main file directly and just printing the specific page numbers you actually need, rather than trying to delete the extra pages (which will probably break the layout).

Along with the sheets, I’ve also updated the Shadow Amps Expanded List to make some fix and add few things. The Denaible Assets (15 new pregens including technmancers) have also been fixed (and wound box have been added).

Let m know what you think, and I hope these help!

u/PinkFohawk reflects on getting SRA2.0.

It's not a review, but still an interesting, short watch.

PS: I've deleted my previous post of this as I thought the video would be a full review, and so I mistitled the post… which was misleading, obviously. As we have more than enough misleading news these days, I'm correcting the mistake here, and reposting this. Sorry. :)

Community Request: SRA2 GM'ing Prep Example

Hi, I'm Bignholy! Some of you may remember me from such hits as "SRA2 is the Best Shadowrun" and "Here is a page long explanation on how I interpret rules, with citations".

I'm here with a request from my fellow SRA2 nerds: What would you do for prep for a game in SRA2?

Thing is, I am the "Heist" kind of GM. Massive sprawling maps, detailed security features, a dozen different types of guards, all that. And with that is the expectation of the players making a plan. This is making it difficult for me to transition to the more loose, low fidelity design and gameplay that SRA2 encourages with the Legwork system. Nothing wrong with my style, but I am trying to get away from that mindset as my group is not nearly as interested in elaborate planning and I'd like to be more accommodating. I think I've done well so far, but I want to do better, and I hit a mental block.

How much, if any, planning do you have the players do ahead of time, and how much info do you give them to get them there? How do you handle surprises (like unexpected security features)?

So I was wondering if anyone would be willing to either a) Share a little of their GM notes so I can see an example of their process, and/or b) give an example of your process here. I am interested in how you organize your prep, because while I may not do it the same way, and example might help me get closer to a hypothetical ideal that really does not exist.

If you go for B, your prompt is a bare minimum "Break into a Corp Market Research Facility Downtown."

Cheers, chummers, thanks for your time.

What are the limits to “interrupting someone else’s narration” with Edge?

The CRB at page 77 provides that you can spend one edge to "Take an extra action at any time, even if it interrupts someone else’s narration." What are the limits of that?

Example 1: Character A runs into a room where Character B is and shoots Character B. Character B's turn now, and B wants to shoot A. As B says "Okay, I want to shoot A back-", can A spend an Edge to shoot B again before B shoots?

Example 2: Character A runs into a room where Character B* is and shoots Character B. Character B's turn now, and B wants to shoot A. As B says "Okay, I want to shoot A back-", A spends an Edge to shoot B again, but as A does that, B also spends an Edge to interrupt the interruption by diving out a window so he's out of sight and can't be shot - can characters spend Edge to interrupt an interruption?

I'm probably missing something obvious and getting too deep in the weeds, but would someone be able to provide some thoughts on the above or examples of how you'd spend an Edge to interrupt?

*By Character I'm presuming either a PC or an NPC that can use Edge; since most NPCs can't to my understanding, that reduces the odds of these questions coming up in play.

Basic question on risk levels and especially the Berserker power (or analogous drugs)

Berserker (Page 150) requires a player activating the power to roll High risk or above on their checks while it’s active. Suppose a character has, e.g., 10 dice with RR2 as their unarmed attack and has this power active. The chart on Page 70 states that for RR2, a High risk roll is defined as a roll with 11 risk dice.

  1. Am I calculating this correctly?

  2. If so, does that mean the character must roll all 10 of their available dice as risk dice if Berserker is active?

Thank you very much!
