Help decide on capacity V Leader

I am new to the game, I spent more time watching guides then actually playing, but finaly generated planet for proper long game and first thing I do is checking what I am dealing with.

And on the turn 1 I find this absolute unit sitting there as my advisor.

Well, his skills definetly wasted as simple advisor, he perfectly suits my government profile so he will be loyal for sure. A bit shame that he is 65 years, but he has natural strength 40 so he should be able to keep going for 20-30 years or so before game force him to retire.

So now I am trying to decide where to use him. He definetly already can be exelent for Foreign Affairs (and I started at medium world with survival stress, so there should be a lot of factions around), so that would be handy. But it still feels like a waste for him to be used there.

I am thinking between Internal Council or as my starting city governorn - both quite vital in one way or the other to make the ball rolling.

Edit: rechecked manual, his ambition 100 means that he will refuse to retire no matter what, while also he has high endurance, which should prolong his life... so he will only die from natural degradation in... I would guess in 50 years?

How do military units work?

I sent small tanks with 20mm poly armor, duel engines, and 20mm howitzers to fight infantry with combat armor and guass guns. And the small tanks lost with 1/3 losses.

What are the advantages of the different units?

I'm thinking of laser machine gun army to out fire power them. As I think the tanks ran out ammo. As they had 1 big bullet for every 10 men

Focus on armor piercing Tech

Get seige units.

Setting up a new game for twitch/youtube using the Republica DLC which of the following would you like to see played out?

Polls have to be started on phone, Okay body typed up.

I am going to start up my next run of Shadow Empire on stream potentially as soon as the 19th. The plan is that it will take over the slot emptied by Solar Nation 2.

The goal of this poll is to see what sort of government type people would like to see in the next run. Autorcracy or Meritocracy played straight? A Meritocracy trying to be rushed into Aristocracy run? A advanced tech 5 start where I rush for Syndic Computer and Robot troops for the computer? (Going to try to maximize the number of robots in the army. Would likely be a Government-Mind run.) Or attempt to do a run where I have to disband and scrap militia troops asap as and rely on the professional army only as Either a Meritocracy or Autocracy? (Probs Mind for Merit and Heart for Autocracy, with enforcement)

Plan is to play on Hard Difficulty, haven't decided the planet type/size yet.

10 Autocracy
17 Aristocracy
17 Meritocracy (played straight)
34 Computer needs his robot army (Syndic Computer rushing robot troops)
5 No Vigilantes, No Batman (leaning meritocracy here)
1 No Vigilantes for a Dictator (Autocracy)

The Story of Two Fist-Militia Led Democracy runs Xepelus Confederation and Cunningmoonsland

Upfront, sorry for not posting the AAR for the Xepelus Confederation earlier. But as you might guess from having two runs on with the same gimmick the first attempt was spoilers not successful. And I decided almost immediatly that their would be a repeat of the run because well I promised a Fist-Militia led spoiled democracy and I intended to deliver. (only being a spoiled democracy on the last turn doesn't really count.) Both runs were on fairly similar maps and where played with the intent of using the Democracy-Enforcement-Fist profile mix and becoming a spoiled democracy. In hindsight might have been better to do commerce as the middle profile choice. The link URL is the link to the joint playlist, I will put the link to the start of the second game at the end of the post. (For those that want to skip watching the first game.)

Xepelus Confederation, saw the run start in a fairly difficult starting position. Sandwiched between to Minor factions West and East, and between Rogue Ai territories north and south. I opened up the run trying to do interior council to fish for one of the Enforcement cards. (In hindsight this was likely a poor choice.) The short term goal was to stabilize the starting position while enacting the 4 militia laws. In the short term this was mostly successful the laws were enacted and the AI where eventually defeated. However by then both of the original minor nations had been annexed by other major powers. One of which would eventually go on to declare war and take the command bunker. (Technically not game over as I had taken a second city by then, but I decided that was the sign that the run was not to be successful.) I did a bit of save scumming and worked out that I was likely not a good starting seed for a Militia led run as the combination of rouge AI and minor being rapidly engaged by the Major would rapidly lead to game state that wasn't necessarily tenable with militia primacy. (probs still winnable with out the RP just the militia start is fairly slow.)

Cunningmoonsland, was on basically the same map settings with the hope of RNG providing a map more conducive to the desired RP. The start was still fairly tense as I was unable to secure a early peace with one of the 4 nearby minor powers causing first a hot and then eventually cold war to breakout between us. (The Foreign Affairs director had to get a lot better before peace could be negotiated.) In hindsight a enforcement choice made trying to lose virtue a fairly hard thing to achieve, as by default it is about as hard to lose virtue in last as it is to gain it in first. So as a side effect I was a democracy for the first half of the game only being able to become a spoiled democracy for the second half of the game. (As I had just managed to climb onto the podium.) If you want to see game play with large numbers of obsolete Militia this a good run to tune into. (The militia law that makes the upgrade to new models is very slow, so they tended to 2-3 up to date models for every 17-18 game start ones.) Somehow was still effective at light offensive action vs a major, which did surprise me. I guess quality has a quantity all its own. Link to the first video of Cunninmoonsland here: https://youtu.be/zoZ5__3iYW8?si=51JjwCv6c3DDRw8X

If you read this far I hope you enjoyed reading the post, and hope you enjoy the watch. If you have suggestions on what you would like to see on the next poll to replace the Fist-Militia Led Spoiled democracy, feel free to leave it as a comment. Right now I am leaning to replacing it with a "no batman" run (No vigilantes, volunteers, or non professional troops, aka all militia must be disbanded asap.)

Edit: spoilers fixed

Do I use more logistics point when my armies not stationed in cities?

I was wondering whether stationing my armies in cities mean they don't use any or use less logistics points. Intuitively that should be the case, but I remember reading somewhere that even units on a city hex would also drain logistics points.

If that's not true, I guess it doesn't matter where I park my units during peace time, does it?

Are the events random or organically generated from how I play?

The reason why I'm asking is that almost every turn, I would get events about worker strike. But all my cities have very high worker happiness and my workers have very high salary too (not to mention huge amount of money I dump into private credits).

It seems a bit immersion breaking that I'm having strikes so often. Is it just totally random?

Got my first win, some comments + questions

Bought this game a few years ago and bounced right off. I have played a lot of difficult, janky UI type games (aurora 4x/dwarf fortress) before but you have to be in the right kind of mood to get over the learning curve with something like this. Anyway, a couple weeks ago I decided to sit down and force myself to figure out how to play. Watching some playthroughs to get the basics and failing a first run horribly let me get to the point where I could win my second run.

I played on Beginner, small planet, spread out with mediumcore logistics (after the regular logistics ended my game the first time) and no DLCs or air forces to keep it as simple as possible. Spent about 50 turns just fighting minors and building my economy, then went to war with both the other majors who had friendship with each other. Took ages but I killed the first one, cut the second down to size, and captured a large minor regime city which put me over the finish line for victory points. Overall I had a really great time and I think the game is very fun.

So, questions from me:

  • I enjoyed mediumcore a lot. The fact that branching roads is such a major detriment unless you go in and micromanage traffic signs is something I find a bit unenjoyable, especially since it makes having an aesthetically pleasing road network actively painful. I am wondering if any other people continue playing on mediumcore basically forever, or if I am missing out on some strategic depth that I can't appreciate yet by skipping out on the logistics micro?

  • I want to include Oceania for my next game because I think the planet generations are very cool looking. What are the pitfalls I need to be aware of?

  • I still don't really get how I am supposed to scale my logistics points with my empire over time to avoid running out when I need to supply the front with ammo and fuel. Should I be upgrading all my truck stations? Or just the one in the capital with the SHQ, and build additional level 1 stations to extend the reach of that one?

Suddenly no logistical connection, not sure if it's a bug?

Hi, I am encountering an issue today, not sure if it's a bug. But suddenly, I can't transfer any resources from my SHQ to any of my cities (except for the city the SHQ sits on). It tells me there's "No logistical connection". It's been going on for a few turns now, and the issue is not going away.

I checked several logistics overlay and it seems fine.

Was wondering if anyone could please help take a look at my save and share some insights? Thank you!

Here's my saved game:

https://limewire.com/d/J5zQV#TQNWADeBg2

There's a bottleneck immediately to the south of my SHQ.
Here I see 306 logistics points being used
Here's my Initial Logistics Points
Here's the Preview Logistical Points
My SHQ is circled in green, while the 2 cities in the south are circled in yellow, which I can't deliver resources to. Does it help if I nationalize the truck station in those yellow circled cities instead?

Further information per someone who kindly already responded to me:

Question about number of councils vs BP income

If I have about 323 BP (Bureaucratic Points), how many organizations/council should I have? (in addition to the initial Supreme Command Council)

I realize that the correct answer is that it varies game-by-game, but just want to do a sanity check on this. Couldn't find this information in the manual, apart from the fact that max BP allocation to a task without efficiency loss is 100BP.

Would really appreciate any guidance from anyone!

A question about army size.

My experience is somewhat limited (100 hours or so), but I’m wondering about the utility of larger OHQ formations.

I seem to be able to manage with 3 or 4 brigades, plus supporting independent units.

Is it just because I generally play on sparsely populated worlds?

I can’t imagine raising a Corps, let alone a full Army.

Mouse Frustration

Hello,

Heard so many great things about this game and picked it up this week......but when I move the game to my second monitor the mouse won't click on anything. I can move it around but that's it.

I have looked in settings, changed resolutions, etc etc.

This doesn't happen with any other game so I'm thinking I'm missing something.

How do I restore GR Gladius / GR Grenade Inf integrity?

Hi sorry if this is a dumb question, only got this game recently. I'm only in the beginning couple of turns, got a GR Gladius and GR grenade infantry through some events. I used both units in battle, and now they're both at 10% and 20%, respectively.

I tried to use "Replenish Troops", but all I see is just normal soldiers. Is there a way for me to replenish/repair the integrity of these 2 units?

Newbie question about leader appointment

So I finally pulled the trigger, bought the game last night and started playing after having watched 5 hours of tutorial videos.

I immediately encountered something that doesn't seem intuitive.

I have an empty governor slot for my capital city zone, and would like to appointment an unattached advisor to be the governor. He currently has a relationship of about 75.

When i promised him Better Job, he gained a +3 relationship when I fired him from the advisor job, but then lost -25 relationship when I appointment him as a governor?! Isn't governor a better job compared to an advisor?

Then if I promised him Another job, he would lose relationship immediately and then only gained a slight boost when I appointment him as governor.

Either way, his relationship dropped from 75 to about 50ish after I "promote" him to governor.

Am I playing this wrong or missing something?

Question about game's UI and frustration

I just got this game recently. While the game is getting more fun every time I play, one thing that continues to annoy me a lot is when I click on a military unit, the game doesn't automatically open the Unit tab at the bottom.

So a lot of time I'm looking at some terrain or asset, and then when I click on a military unit, I would need to click on the Unit tab to see what the military unit is. But in other games like Civilization or Paradox grand strategy games, clicking on a unit would open the proper contextual military screen.

Do you guys use some kind of hot key to manage this UI frustration, or are there some settings I can adjust or mod I can download to change this?

As an Alpha Centauri fan, should I buy this or Terran Invicta?

I have heard very good things about both games, but it seems like a serious commitment in terms of the learning curve. For those who have played both games, which one would you recommend me buy and play, and why?

Lost control of almost all my zones in a popular uprising. Questions.

I'm a bit confused at what happened here, since this is new Republica mechanics

I had a popular uprising. The vidcom message said it failed in 5 out of 6 zones.

But the one zone it succeeded in was my capitol, along with my SHQ.

Now the only zone I have control over is my capitol, and everything else is controlled by "rebels". But shouldn't it be the other way around?

Why am I playing as the one zone that had a successful uprising instead of the zones that were able to put it down?

Discord link please. Can we also place one here on the sidebar

There's a discord around, I'm looking for it but generally all the invites are dead. Can someone share a working one?

And can we ask the mods to have one added to the sidebar also?

We need more events

I love this game but after over 200 hours and several games, the events are very repetitive. Even in the same save file the same events come up over and over. Can we please get more variety here moving forward? Yes I own both DLCs. Still not enough events for a game this replayable
