Scalp Routine 6 MONTHS UPDATE: completely seb derm free

I have used chatgpt to arrange and correct my English

My Story:
I have had a flaky scalp ever since I was a child. My mom told me that I had this problem from a very young age. Back then, it was mild, but as I grew older and entered my teenage years, it became much worse. Bloody scalp due to scratches .The last 2–3 years have been especially horrible. It got so bad that I stopped going to barbers and started keeping my hair buzzed all the time. It was extremely embarrassing when my classmates would stare at my hair and point out the flakes, saying, "There's something in your hair." My hair loss increased also like i started losing more and more hair .

Temporary Relief:
I went to a dermatologist and was diagnosed with sebopsoriasis. The doctor prescribed a coal tar shampoo and clobetasol. I used the clobetasol for only a few days before stopping because I was concerned about its potential side effects.
I have also tried ketoconazole and zinc pyrithione, but neither helped much. Only coal tar and salicylic acid have provided temporary relief. Coal tar worked best for reducing inflammation, while salicylic acid was effective at removing dead skin and flakes. However, both treatments only helped to a certain extent, and the relief was always temporary.

Solution:
What I realized was that years of seborrheic dermatitis had severely damaged my scalp's skin barrier. That's when I came across MCT oil on this subreddit (I'm extremely grateful 🥹).
I bought it in February and started applying it to my scalp at night, then washing it off the next morning. I usually soak my entire scalp with MCT oil, although you definitely don't need to use that much. I've been doing this twice a week for the past six months, and since then, I haven't needed to use any medicated shampoos or topical steroids. My scalp is fully cleared and healed . And and i have started to grow out my hair for the first time every .
More recently, I also added a sea salt water rinse to my routine, and it has been a great additon . The only sad part it that you have to be consistent with it otherwise it will come back at least in my case :)

General Your diet is just as, if not, more important than skincare, what I've documented and what helped with my seb derm.

Just wanted to give an update on the diets I've documented over the years, what helped, what didn't make a difference, what I've deducted and the best overall.

Vegetarian - Some positive difference in sleep, my overall alertness felt better, skin improvements, especially the redness helped, but I couldn't stick to the diet long term, I have been a meat enjoyer my whole life.

Carnivorous - I felt fantastic on this diet mentally, I'm someone whose always anxious and thinks ahead, honestly this was the best diet for my mental health overall but I personally didn't see improvements to my skin. It's also hard to sustain as someone who lives alone with a paycheck to paycheck income. Maybe if I had a better budget and could have brought grass fed organic, that may have made all the difference.

Pescetarian - At first I really liked this diet, I noticed skin improvements, especially from all the collagen within seafood, I didn't notice any other differences. Overall pretty good but hard to maintain due to budget, I also got quite tired of eating seafood even though I was eating a variety.

Keto - Nope nope nope, I got something called the keto flu which happens in early keto stages, I couldn't handle the constant headaches as I suffer with migraines too, not for me.

Calorie deficit diet - Easiest to manage as I could eat what I wanted when I wanted, as long as I stayed under the recommended daily calorie count, I didn't notice any changes to my skin but good for weight loss.

Combination of Calorie Deficit & High antioxidant diet - This was the one for me. Not just did my skin clear up but I had a lot less stomach concerns, the brain fog subsided and my skin had a natural glow to it. I've always been on the more oily side and was told that it's genetics, nothing can be done, well a high antioxidant diet fixed all that. It also helped with face bloat. I drink Clove tea 2-3 times daily with a little honey, I eat blueberries and blackberries with a plain yogurt, sometimes I shred some dark chocolate over, and lastly some dried cranberries to snack on. Main meals are whatever my little heart desires on the day, I do try to get some spinach in a couple times a week. It was that easy for me. This diet is so good for me that I haven't felt the need to deduct any food groups at all!

As for my skin now, all I do is a Sulfur/Sulphur soap bar every other day on my face, head and neck and then apply a Ceramide serum, once my skin was healed, I also added a vitamin C serum to the routine once I let my skins barrier heal.

I know this might be quite a long read, I just want to help others the best I can, have a great day all.

Scalp Routine Red light therapy

I bought one of those helmets that have the red laser/led diodes that target hairloss. I am 54yo woman, post menopausal. So my hair is starting to thin. I also developed seb derm THIS year. I've been using this helmet for 12 minutes a day and I have had zero seb derm on my scalp. My scalp feels healthy and normal like it used to, before I developed seb derm. I'm not going to say that I fixed it but I am happy to not suffer the symptoms even for a little bit.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Face Routine Zinc cream helped my flare up

Hi everyone! I’ve been having the worst seb derm flare up for the last 2 weeks - constant peeling and flaking at work and skin constantly feeling tight and super red.

I stopped using my old sunscreen and bought a new one - Eucerin Sun Tinted Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 35, UVA-UVB, Zinc Oxide

I also started using this with Zinc Oxide (diaper rash cream) all over my face at night and so far the results have been amazing. My peeling has drastically gone down during the day (little to no flakes) and my skin is not red and tight anymore!

Wanted to share hoping this can help someone, I’ve had the absolute worst flare up of my life recently and have felt so hopeless. The zinc cream is pretty cheap ($10 for a tub) and worked quickly - definitely worth a try :)

New or Need Help Misdiagnosed seb derm

Hello, I have been diagnosed with type 2 rosacea on my cheeks and seb derm on my forehead a month ago.

It is rough and dry, very inflamed and bumpy in texture. It gets severely itchy throughout the day and flakes if I do not moisturize.

I think it started out as contact dermatitis, since I have mixed two different topicals that I should not have.

I have applied prescription strength hydrocortisone and while it helped for a few days, it stopped working even after about 2 weeks of use. It actually came back worse as it started out the size of the tip of a pencil eraser to its current size.

I was diagnosed with seb derm and I have tried ketoconazole washes and cream. At first I thought it was working because it would minimize the bumps but it does not response like that anymore.
I have even tried MCT oil. I feel like it helped the first day- to the point where it almost completely flattened and there was just residual redness but something has caused it to flare again and it did not respond like that again after repeated use.

After 2 weeks of that, the derm put me on Zoryve. Which did not help but helped alleviate the itching.

Now the derm thinks it's rosacea but he is not too sure and I'm entirely convinced because it does not present like my typical rosacea on my cheeks.

Any thoughts?
