⚠️ Local Alert Leash your dogs - coyote sighting Thomson Park

Hey all! Was walking through Thomson Park (Brimley side near ball diamonds) around 9 am this morning. Someone walked by me with two small dogs off leash. A few minutes later, I spotted two coyotes sunning themselves between the baseball diamond fence and bush.

Please keep your dogs on leash!

⚠️ Local Alert ‼️ psa - keep an eye out for your cars/remove valuables and important docs - series of car break ins near brimley and eglinton

hi all! the street at my mom’s home just experienced a series of break-ins last night around 4 am

6 of our neighbours and one of our cars had their windows smashed in - luckily our car was older and out of use so they didn’t get anything but valuables and paperwork were taken from the neighbours.

there have been targets on the neighbouring streets as well! please keep your cars parked in garages if you can and also remove all valuable items and stay safe out there!

📍 Around the Hood What could possible take over the old Hudson’s Bay warehouse on Warden Ave?

Thumbnail realtor.ca
30 Upvotes

With HBC gone, the old warehouse has been sitting empty now for months and is up for lease.

It’s hard to imagine anything would take over this 740,000 sqft space. There’s already 2 Costcos and 2 walmarts nearby.

If anything could take it over, it would be probably be an Amazon warehouse which would be incredible for jobs in the area, but that’s highly unlikely.

Is there anything that could fill the hole left by HBC?

Hi,

I just had my car broken into recently and it had to be that one day when I left my wallet in the arm rest. This happened near the intersection of McCown and Ellesmere road, one of the cards was used at the Burger King on 3495 Lawrence Avenue East and I just wanted to know if someone came across any wallet/IDs around this area then please do contact me. The Ids(Driving licence/Health card)are from ALBERTA and I can provide full information on the cards to prove they’re mine. Thank you.

Good Vibes Just wanted to say…

Going to a Scarborough Shooting Stars game is a damn good time.

Don’t let the fact that it’s in the Pan Am Center steer you away, you’ll feel like you’re in Scarborough at the game, great vibe from beginning to end. I felt like I knew everyone there!

Tix are very affordable. The team is in first place in the CEBL. And frankly, the fact I got home in like 20 mins while thinking about all the Raptors games I’ve been to where I’m stuck in traffic and crowds for over an hour was a very pleasant bonus.

Great night in the endsss.

📍 Around the Hood New public facilities projects underway by St. Mother Teresa Malvern recreation centre

Recently passed by the neighbourhood (used to live there) and saw the construction going on.

Going to miss that beach volleyball court. Carried so many summer memories for me and my friends (cause barely anyone else used it lmao)

And I still remember the day they unveiled the old court, track and soccer field. The new one is going to look amazing from what I’ve heard.

🐾 Lost/Found Pet Found Yorkie

Post image
83 Upvotes

Sharing for someone who can't post ( u/batmanxfilms )

Hi everyone!

My family and I found this sweet Yorkie running on the road right on Finch and Birchmount near the Birchmount Hospital. She flinches when you touch her back/hips a little so she might be hurt but we aren’t sure. She’s very timid and scared but she’s a sweetheart.

We wanted to make sure she was microchipped so we took her to the VCA Emergency Hospital on Rolark Dr and they took her into their care. We were told that we won’t be able to follow up with them as their policy states that once a stray/lost dog is dropped off in their care, our work there is done.

She is currently with them and seems to be happy in their care. If you know who she belongs to or if she is yours, please DM u/batmanxfilms or call the emergency vet clinic on 21 Rolark Dr.

Thanks so much!

⚠️ Local Alert Air Quality - daylight looks weird

It's 11:00 am and I just noticed that up and down the street the outdoor house lights that automatically activate at dusk are already on. This is not good. We definitely need more firefighting planes in Ontario.

📰 Local News Scarborough Southwest Provincial By-Election 2026

I voted liberal many times before but I find this by-election in SSW very clear !

ONDP - Shaban is a life long resident, volunteer, community advocate and parent in the community. Very intelligent with great educational and professional background. Very well spoken.

ONDP Leader: Marit Styles, Leader of the Official opposition. Outspoken, holding the government accountable.

OLP - Hafiz, moved from London ON, lying to residents that he is from here. Questionable nomination (possibly corrupt). Bad presentation. Terrible stuff came out about his Facebook posts.  I don’t really understand what is his deal besides the fact that he has 30 dominos franchises.

OLP leadership: None, party in shambles. Supporters disappointed with nomination meeting

PC - Dr. Tarun is a doctor but his English is limited to his medical practice. He cannot hold a conversation in English which should be a requirement for elected officials in Canada.

PC Leadership: Doug Ford - need I say more ?

Good Vibes Kind guy/stranger helped cut tree branch

Thank you to the kind gentleman who stopped his car on the side of a residential road and offered to help me cut a tree branch that I was struggling to cut through while standing on a ladder. You didn’t have to stop your car and offer to help, but you did because you thought what I was doing was dangerous. My parents were surprised and grateful that a stranger would stop to help. You are one of a kind.

Wishing you only the best in life!

Heads Up Folks: Steer clear (for the time being) of the Birchmount Rd. / Lawrence Ave. intersection. Poor folks who got hit (both in their 60's) because, apparently, a driver ran a red light (according to a post in the r/Toronto sub)

🔒 Locked 'Out of hand': Residents on Scarborough street say they're constantly ticketed, but have nowhere to park

Thumbnail
toronto.citynews.ca

This happens on other streets (not just National St.) as well. There are driveways to park in but, and this is an assumption since it's not listed in the story, the driveways can't accommodate all the vehicles for the occupants of the housing unit. (i.e. multiple tenants in a single family home dwelling - all with vehicles). Should be interesting to see how (or if) this is resolved.

🎭 Local Event Open Data Jam - Celebrating Scarborough: 6pm, Wed, July 22 @ Scarborough Civic Centre

https://luma.com/rb38f1hw?tk=XZuXCy

Learn how open data (open.toronto.ca) works at the City of Toronto, see some impactful projects and use cases from Scarborough residents, and meet the people behind both!

We host monthly events where you can find us (the Open Data team), Open Data users and enthusiasts, and dedicated public servants fostering and bolstering open data projects and usage.

In July, we're coming to Scarborough, and spotlighting its open data champions!

I've been to a couple of these before and it's a great opportunity to see what some folks have done with the City's quite extensive open data sets, as well as brainstorm with others about how it can be used.

And this one's in Scarborough, so more easily accessible given the timing and location.

Good for individuals and orgs who are interested in exploring the city's open data offerings, or have ideas/pain points they think could be helped by Open Data. Don't need to be a technically inclined person at all.
