Miscellaneous Photo Contest: Celebrate the Beauty of the Algoma & Chippewa Regions!

Hey, Sault Ste. Marie, ON & MI,

After seeing that recent negative post about the area, I thought I might prompt a different type of perspective - let’s shift the focus to what makes our city and region truly special. The Algoma and Chippewa region is full of breathtaking landscapes, hidden gems, and everyday beauty—whether it’s a stunning sunset over the St. Marys River, the lush greenery of Hiawatha Highlands, or the charm of our local streets.

Let’s showcase it!

  4. Prize: The winner receives a $25 gift card to Georgie’s Shawarma—because even winners deserve delicious rewards. (Sorry Michigan Redditors, you'll have to come over and get a delicious Shawarma).

Miscellaneous Paint the road lines!

I just recently completed a nice visit with family in Sault Ste Marie Ontario. As someone from out of town it really drove me crazy to not have clear lines on the road. So many lines were very faint, and I had to rely on how others were driving to determine if my road officially had two lanes.

I recommend painting the lines instead of relying on muscle memory!

Local Business Promotion Looking to Hire Content Creator / Videographer

I am working on behalf of a copper exploration company based just north of Sault Ste. Marie.

We are looking to hire a photographer/videographer to come on site once every 2 weeks to shoot content for corporate materials, social media etc.

Doesn't need to be a pro, just someone with experience taking photos + videos (would be perfect if they can take drone videos).

This would be a recurring engagement starting in August.

Please let me know if you know anyone who would be a good fit!

the Great Outdoors Michigan Side Smoke Timelapse

Timelapse of the last 4 days when we started to smell it on the breeze 4 days ago, 7am every morning.

Power flickered last night and unfortunately all 5 of our purifiers don't save powerstate. Running them on turbo to compensate for the few hours I was sleeping with them off.

Hope everyone is safe, if our Walmart has any available the Winix c545 has been great for this, carbon and air filters included. They are at the back right before lawn and garden.

Hi everyone!

I'll start off by saying thank you to all who came out to the show and supported us. It means so much.

I got to share my comic "Kid Robo" with so many people.

The support that you all showed for my daughter and I was incredible.

I can't wait for SaultCon 2 next year.

SSM Ontario Moving/Living Advice What’s the Sault like?

Moving here for work and the only things I’ve heard are that 1. It’s a small town(which sounds good to me), and 2. That the crime rates are pretty bad.

Also how are the rental places; lots of slumlords or mostly decent?

Any info is appreciated!

Travel/Tourism Advice - Ontario Fall color?

Hey y'all! My fam has a camp outside SSM Ontario and usually we come up in the summer but this year it's gonna be a later trip. In a ideal world we'd get to see a lil bit of trees changing color but also not be too chilly. (Our place is not winterized but I remember being there in late September/early October-ish as a kid and being okay with the stove going.) Suggestions on an ideal time to visit? I also know that leaf timing kinda varies year-to-year so hoping folks might have an idea of what this year specifically is looking like!

Thanks, and see y'all in a couple months! (Also would love some suggestions for fall activities -- like I said, we're usually summer guys and the days are very lake-oriented -- if there's anything super cool happening either side of the border I could see us arranging our timing around that.)

Travel/Tourism Advice - Ontario Hobbies that don’t require money

What are some hobbies you can do in SSM ON that don’t require cash? Doesn’t matter if it’s in nature. There’s nothing really to do here it’s quite depressing ( or maybe I just don’t know where to look).
Any activity would help

Local Politics - Ontario Left Wing Organizing in SSM Ontario

I recently moved from Indianapolis a few months ago. I move around a lot for work and tend to build my social circles around political activism. I was wondering if there are any socialist orgs or even a substantial NDP presence within SSM-ON that would welcome any help from Americans?

Any direction where to find y'all would be appreciated.
