Did you hear something loud? Do you think it was fireworks, an exploding transformer, or anything else?

Post it here!

Since there are so many booming noises, please try to include a location and time.

Capitola police identify 73-year-old stabbing victim and 19-year-old suspect

Capitola police have identified the woman killed in Monday’s stabbing as 73-year-old Rachell Summers of Capitola.

Police also identified the suspect as 19-year-old Tyler Leibelt of Santa Cruz. Investigators say Summers was stabbed outside the Capitola Mall near the food-court exit on Clares Street.

Video recorded in the 1400 block of 41st Avenue shows the suspect being taken into custody shortly after the attack. Capitola police confirmed to me that the person shown in the video is the suspect identified in the case.

Police say the attack appears to have been random and that there is no indication the suspect knew the victim.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information, photos or video is asked to contact Capitola police at 831-475-4242.

So i asked the clouds subreddit what the heck these are, as i assume everyones so curious. The answer i got was Supercilium clouds! They form in strong winds near mountains and move fast, but are not officially recognized yet. Another meteorologist said theyre asperitas.

To me they seem more like the first id, but nonetheless, so cool!!

Victim and perpetrator identified in Capitola Mall stabbing

Article from KSBW:

CAPITOLA, Calif. —

A day after a deadly stabbing, Capitola Mall reopened for business on Tuesday.

Capitola police locked down the mall on Monday while investigating a deadly stabbing that authorities now believe was a random act of violence.

Capitola Police Chief Sarah Ryan told KSBW 8 that an older woman was killed in the attack.

The suspect, identified Tuesday as 19-year-old Tyler T. Leibelt of Santa Cruz, was located and taken into custody in the 1400 block of 41st Avenue.

The Capitola Police Department said officers responded at about 12:47 p.m. to reports of a stabbing near the food court exit at Capitola Mall.

Officers arrived within minutes and found a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds on Clares Street, across from the Macy’s west exit.

Officers began life-saving measures until they were relieved by Central Fire personnel and American Medical Response, police said. Despite those efforts, the woman died at the scene.

She was identified by Capitola police as 73-year-old Rachell Summers of Capitola.

He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and committing a felony while on bail, according to the booking portal. Bail was denied.

Based on the investigation so far, detectives believe the stabbing was a random act of violence and said there is no indication the suspect and victim knew one another before the attack.

Authorities said the stabbing was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Capitola Mall was expected to reopen once investigators completed processing the scene.

Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the attack or has photos, video, or other information that could help the investigation to contact the Capitola Police Department at (831) 475-4242.
