Safari keeps opening links in apps. Make it stop! - I saw in another thread to turn on "verify window.open user gesture" in advanced settings but that seems to get overridden half the time.
Duck Duck Go asks if I want to open links in apps. Why isn’t Apple? Can this be stopped?

Devastated! Is there a way to restore a closed window if no option shows under "reopen last closed window"
I'm an idiot and for literally years I've kept hundreds of tabs open in my Safari window to keep up with work and other things. I've rarely accidentally closed the window or had a crash but if I did, every time "reopen all windows from last session" has worked fine.
Today I accentually hit the "x" when I went to minimize the window. When I went to click reopen last closed window, it was grayed out. Reopen all windows from last session was also grayed out. I had no option.
I'm praying there is another option. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm truly devastated here as sad as that sounds

Automating Safari Extension Publishing with GitHub Actions
I've already written two blog posts about Safari extension publishing, and this is my third blog post explaining how to fully automate the publishing process. This came about because I have more than 10 Safari extensions, which made automation a necessity.

Safari Extension to modify Google Search Query?
Hi,
Is there an Safari extension for iOS to modify Google Search query by default?
I need to look up a lot of stuff on Google Images daily, however I get 100s of results from TikTok. I am quite “anti” social medias like that and I prefer to not have them show up in my results. My adblockers don’t even allow me to go to these sites so they get blocked anyway. But I want them completely gone.
I know you can type
-site:tiktok.com
In your query and it will automatically filter out everything coming from that domain. But I am basically looking for some “simple” extension that can modify your search query by default, since I don’t want to add a list of domains manually every time.
Does such thing exist already?
Edit: I actually just learned from the comments you can create your own Safari Extensions in iOS 27 using the Apple AI, so I updated to the iOS 17 Public Beta and gave it a shot and it works beautifully.
I gave it a prompt and now I have a simple extension where I can add a list of domains and all these domains get automatically added with the -site: flag for each search.
Of course my query looks dumb now with every search because I exclude 10+ domains, but the functionality is there and pretty much exactly what I wanted

Will safari ever have vertical tabs
You got me, Arc user here but I am kind of over it and looking to be more safe on the internet. I know lots of people suggest brace but I’m thinking of using safari since it’s in the apple ecosystem and I use it on my phone. It’s been good for privacy.
I really want vertical tabs on desktop though. Is there a way to do this or a plugin ?
PDF not only Renders in Safari with Javascript Console Open
Anyone have any thoughts as to why a PDF preview from a web app (NetSuite) would open and render correctly when the Javascript console is open Safari but not when the console is closed? No changes were made in the console. I literally just turned it on to see what was happening and the content rendered fine.

Tab preview showing on private mode window

Does anyone know why my tab preview is showing when the private-mode browser is locked? Is this a bug? I'm using espn.com as an example, but this also happens for more adult-themed sites.

Website Data question
How long does Safari (advanced settings) retain website data ? And, if it’s deleted, can it come back even if the site isn’t revisited or it would have to be revisited ? Would love a person who is good with tech and isn’t just guessing to respond.

SafariBookmarksSyncAgent" quit unexpectedly.
im on Monterey 12.7.6, ive been running this computer without issues for around 6months and just recently Ive been having this error trigger randomly as im using my computer, it happens even when i dont have any internet browser open, and its even stranger because i dont even use Safari as a browser so i never open it.
The error screen in "details" points a file that should be located in a folder that doesnt even exist in my computer, it points to
Library/Apple/*/Safarisupportbundle/Contents/MacOS/SafariBookmarks Agent
but the folder Safarisuppoert bundle doesnt even exist, if i copy the text string, and go to finder > Go to folder and paste the text string, it doesnt show up at all.

Not Secure Connection Warning Inconsistent
I have the Not Secure Connection Warning enabled in Safari on my iPhone. If I try to load a page using HTTP, sometimes it gives a warning that allows me to proceed and sometimes it just blocks with the message in the image I posted.
I have the latest versions of iOS and safari.
It mainly seems to just block http if I am trying to access something on my local network like my isp router or a local dashboard server but not always. It almost always happens with IP addresses. It also happens sometimes with .local domain names. It all works fine with Firefox but I‘d like to be able to use safari based web apps to access stuff locally.
I’ve tried it with and without the http:// prefix. I’ve also tried the https:// prefix.
I’d like to avoid having to set up a local CA for stuff that is not exposed to the net if I can. I also don’t want to turn off the http warning because that is useful when browsing the web
Has anyone found a workaround for this?

On Mac, how do I retrieve accidentally closed tabs? (Already tried suggestions in body)
Hi, I apparently accidentally pressed the ‘close other tabs’ shortcut while intending the ‘close this tab’ one.
The problem is this was a window with tons and tons of tabs I had pending that I meant to get to and take some type of action (whether filing as a bookmark, printing something, emailing to someone or other, whatever) - like 400+ (believe me I know, it’s terrible management and a backlog resulting from life being complicated recently, but I was aware and had recently made a lot of progress fixing it not only for this but in a way that would ensure I don’t get a backlog again - but if I can’t get them back, I won’t be able to do that as effectively).
I tried Cmd + Z - no reaction. I tried Reopen Last Closed Tab, nothing. Eventually in desperation I tried Reopen All Windows From Last Session, and all it did was reopen my *other* windows, that are safely sitting on my Dock minimized, so I had those in triplicate or something. I had to close those to make sense of things again, but I realize now that might have been a mistake because it pushed the ‘lost’ tabs further back in the computer’s ‘memory’ of closed tabs (I don’t think those are the right terms, but I basically have zero formal education in this stuff, everything I know I picked up myself through use).
Is there any hope at all of retrieving these? Even if it’s not something automated, or if there’s one of those scripts that you write? I’m willing to try, if I have instructions to do it.
They were all in a tab group that was named (‘Pending’) and now when I pull up the Pending tab group, it’s just this one Reddit window I’m writing on.

Weird Password Issue
Hi, for a while now, safari has stopped having the option to autofill passwords on local addresses. Like 192.168.1.4 or host.local. Did a setting get changed that I can change back? I have a nas that requires a password and it's getting lame 😞

Buster for Safari (Captcha solver)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I just ported the popular Captcha solver Buster (https://github.com/dessant/buster) over to Safari. Feel free to check it out: https://github.com/janoschp/buster-safari . You can download it here https://github.com/janoschp/buster-safari/releases/tag/v1.0.0 .
Just like for the original Buster, you first have to configure a speech-to-text provider, for example Google: https://github.com/dessant/buster/wiki/Configuring-Google-Cloud-Speech-to-Text.

Is there an extension to hide AI generated videos in YouTube?
I see them for other browsers, but can't find any for Safari.
Searched for the topic here, but did not find a thread about it. Hopefully this sin't something that gets asked 100x per day.
