Miscellaneous Should I get into painting Star Wars Legion minis? Are they any good?

Upvotes

I’m a big fan of painting stuff from the Warhammer Horus Heresy game (although I don’t actually play the tabletop), but I’ve been a Star Wars fan literally almost my entire life and I think I’d love picking up some clone troopers to make myself a custom unit, but I’m not sure at all on what their quality is like.
So I’d like to know from anyone here on how they are before I end up killing my wallet (more than I already am lol)

3rd Party Product Questions Halo Legion Rules?

Apologies, I ended up stumbling here after seeing a few posts and 3D printed models for a Halo "conversion" for Star Wars Legion ruleset. I found a few of the posts that were made a while back, with links to their rules and stat carss. But none of them work, so I thought I'd inquire if anyone knows what's up with that/what happened with that project? It sounds awesome, and I'd like to look into it, especially with people from my LGS thinking it'd be neat.

The implication is that this will be orderable in some capacity outside of going to the conventions. The price converts to $42 USD.

Rules Question Gunslinger and Fire Control interaction

Am I wrong to think that Fire Control works on every dice pool created by the gunslinger keyword? Up Close and Personal has a similar wording then Fire Control, hence I am questioning if this works.

Example: ISP with Blaster Cannons shoots 3 black dice at two different units. So with Cody in range 1 with Fire Control would bump up the attack pools to 2 red 1 black?

Additional question would be if a Beam weapons additional beam attacks would also count as individual range attacks hence upgrading them too for each attack pool?

This command slot upgrade is utterly hilarious.

Is "Fire Control" the only Command Upgrade in the new Upgrade pack?

Is there a list of new upgrade cards anywhere? I know that TA has them integrated, but there is no way to filter the new ones there.

I figured Out I want to build this Army as soon as I can get my hands in extra Warriors and the leader Box. My Leader ist mostly Just Support and giving suppression Tokens. The Hunter goes key unit hunting with the Vibrosword. The Initiaties and Warriors Just get some Board Control and Models on the Board. My Kryze Veterans got some Upgrade so they are a bit better against Troopers and Suppression. And to the Last my Fire Support Warriors get the Most Upgrades so I have te best possible anti Armour I can get

Product Availability I have been out of the game for about 3-4 years now, have they shifted to only selling all characters in sets, or do they still make individual character expansions?

Basically title, I saw Savage Opress, one of my favorite Star Wars characters, is being released in the "Leaders of the Separatist Alliance" set coming in September. The problem is that I already have Ventress, and the original versions of Grievous and Dooku and don't really care about or even like their resculpts. I also don't really care about Trench either but he's not necessarily a deal breaker. I really don't want to drop $60 just to get Savage. I can say the same about the Armorer in the upcoming Mando set, but I at least don't have the other minis so I don't mind as much.

If this is the case, I definitely understand why, it's more profitable and helps move characters that don't move as well, it just sucks if that is the case.

We're back already because Upgrade Pack 2 was revealed earlier than expected! Mike and Evan start with a deep discussion on Fire Control, a new upgrade that will likely be taken by the majority of Legion lists in the game, and try to figure out what that will mean. We then cover the remaining upgrades, which run the gamut between auto-includes, never-includes, and one that references rules that don't even exist yet! And do we have takes? YOU BET WE DO!

Rules Question Wookiee Changes

Apparently Wookiees are due some form of rework. What that is exactly nobody knows. I'm curious what people think they need to make them viable once again? Personally I think they're about right at the current points but they need pushing into the melee or ranged roles a little more. I don't think they need health or save changes as they should be beefy but low protection. This would be my suggestion but what do you think they need?

Noble Fighters

Kashyyyk Pistol drops to 1 black dice.

Unit gains Agile 1.

Add two Wookiees for 40pts or take a Battle Shield Wookiee.

Battle Shield Wookiee

No longer flippable. Armour 1 and 2 red attack dice. No movement penalty but you lose Agile 1.

Kashyyyk Defenders

Combat Training drops to 1 black dice.

X1 Carbine becomes 1 black 1 white.

Long Gun Wookiee

Unit gains Longshot.

Gnasp Bombardier

Becomes 3 red attack dice.

Tactics Discussion Thoughts on custom jedi and new upgrade cards

So with the new upgrade cards force users in general got a big buff in my opinion. Battlemind alone can increase their dicepools by a lot. For me the custom jedi gave alot of theme to the game and i love creating headcannons for them, but they always were to expensive and apart from the Knight (sometimes), they didnt make sense in competitive listbuilding. Simply being to expensive and not providing good command cards.

Do you think this will change given that they now have access to cheap enhancements?

Apart from that here are some of my thoughts regarding the new upgrades if you are interested:

- Annul: Love the idea and i probably can not aestimate what good players will do with it, but the upgrade being a reactive effect will cause the other player to just play round it. So getting any value out of it for 12 points will be hard. However maybe its denial alone will be worth the pts.

- Battlemind: For 8 pts you receive a flat 0.5 hit increase on average. Say no more. Pushing hit probability is really good.

- Force Absorb: 5pts for blocking a hit every turn without needing to Recover or MOFsing it? Will be tedious to play against and can keep essential units alive like crazy combined with barrier.

- Force Agility: 8pts for one time disengage will probably not be worth it in most scenarios, but in those were it counts it will be very good. Moving your force user into a unit in the vicinity that already played its turn to hide can be so nasty when contesting objectives. For this upgrade a good gameplan needs to be thought out i think.

- Force Enhanced Defense: 5pts for always blocking a hit/crit a turn. Its good, only thought to it is, that now the force slot is hella contested. For making a cheap stat stick however this is excellent. It will do more for your defence then going for block or surge tokens on average. I wished there to be a Surge:Block upgrade too however (maybe a training slot).

- Helping Hand: 5 pts again (love the low balling), for a good setup effect with auto recover. In my games jump helps a ton. From getting around into melee when a lot of space is blocked to getting cover from height. The added dodge brings it over the edge for me. Only thing holding it back imo is that you need to have a plan for it when listbuilding, what unit is pushed and why.

- Despair: I doubt that this will get used a lot because of other more attractive upgrades. Downgrading one die will increase miss chance on the roll from 3/6 to 5/6 which is not bad. Changing defense rolls is always better then attack rolls. If I roll 5 red defense die non surging i block an average of 2.5 hits. When I roll 4 red and 1 white I block 2.17 hits on average. The suppression I dont know about. Half is a very short range and this will only be of affect when there is a lot of contesting in the POI, gamemodes like Close the Pocket.

- Force Drain: Very interesting one. Combined with setup this will be very powerful. Shooting on a unit with suppressive weapons then charging it can trigger this effect consistently i guess. I like the Kotor headknod alot. CIS and Empire have good access to suppression, so this does not look as bad as i thought it would. Which units will be able to spare the 14 pts is more of a question.

- Hatred: Yo what in the holy kitchen was cooked here. Mace windu is crying rn. Not only his hole mastery kinda got copied into a force upgrade, but its now available to every dark side user. Adding a white dice or upgrading another does the same to the average hit probability. For 8 pts you can upgrade a dice for every wound (Maul loves this trick). Closest to compare it too would be tenacity for 6 pts. Being able to choose to go for a do or die turn is very good.

- Strong in the Force: 5 pts for a dodge or an aim every turn. This is value on the right units. Assajj needs to be mentioned. This upgrade will be able to create very cool interactions.

Hope you enjoyed the read, leave any thoughts you want to share regarding the topic in the comments!

Cheers!

Rules Question Best Starter Lists for Learning the Game?

Hey everyone,

My friend and I have just started playing Star Wars: Legion, and we're love it so far

Right now we have the Rebel vs Empire Core Set, a couple of Speeder units, and the Rebel AT-RT. We've read about half of the rulebook, and we'd really like to start putting models on the table instead of trying to understand every rule first.

Would you recommend some simple beginner army lists using just what we have (or with only a small addition)? We're mainly looking to learn the core mechanics and get some games in before worrying about optimization.

One thing that's confusing us is the upgrade cards. There are so many options that it's hard to know what's actually important for learning the game. Would you suggest:

  • playing with no upgrades at first?
  • only using a few essential upgrades?
  • or just building full lists from the start?

Any other beginner tips for making the first few games fun and easy to learn would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Product Availability Good retailer for broken-up hero packs?

Hello!

I just started Mandos and wanted to get a few of the heroes without having to buy a whole hero kit. Specifically would like to get my hands on another Bo Katan mini (to do an alternate build with the dark saber) and the new Sabine mini (without having to buy Lando and Ahsoka)

Thank you for your help!
