Important /r/SJSU is looking for Moderators

It's no surprise that the /r/SJSU subreddit is looking pretty inactive on the moderator end, and in desperate need of cleaning out the spam messages and ongoing college life posts.

Moderating forums is a volunteer experience, but you will strive to create a strong and enjoyable local community!

Moderator Description

  • Checking the new and mod queues to approve valid posts caught by the spam filter and remove content that breaks the rules.

  • Answering questions and responding to feedback in moderator mail.

  • Being pragmatic, polite, and helpful.

You will be welcoming incoming SJSU students and helping them with their inquiries about campus life, applying to classes, finding housing resources, and overall just being a positive role model representative.

What we're looking for:

As of now, there is no set deadline when the application process will end, and responses will be done on a case-by-case basis. With that said, thank you for reading, and we wish the best!

Other Is the student job market really that bad?

I'm an incoming transfer from another major city in CA (albeit smaller than SJ). I applied to probably 50-75ish jobs before landing my most recent position in fast food. I've been applying to places in San Jose, both on & off campus since May & it's definitely been more than 50-75 applications. I don't want to make myself sound stupid, but is it really that bad? I really want an on campus job & I don't plan on giving up on trying to find employment any time soon, but I just want to know if everyone else is struggling as much as I am lol

Other Close by eateries

Hello,

Apologies if this is not on topic enough. I'm going to be staying right off the SJSU campus this week and was wondering if any current and former students/faculty have recommendations for close by eateries. More so mom/pop places or local chains.

Lease Takeover at The Grad San Jose – Spring 2027 – Next to SJSU

Hi everyone! I’m looking for someone to take over my lease at The Grad San Jose for Spring/Summer 2027. It’s located in Downtown San Jose right next to SJSU, so it’s a really convenient option for students.

Rent is $1,869/month, and the lease runs until July 31, 2027. The floor plan is C1, and there are 2 other male roommates in the apartment. Water, gas, sewer, trash, and high-speed internet are included, while electricity is billed separately.

This would be an official lease assignment through The Grad, so the replacement would need to apply and be approved by the leasing office. Message me if you’re interested or want more details!

Housing Searching for housing off campus | ~$1,300 budget

Hello all! I’m in need of a place to rent in the San Jose region for the upcoming SJSU academic year. Ideally, I'd like to move in sometime in the second half of August. I am returning from my study abroad program on August 11th, so any date before that is not viable. 🙇‍♂️

A little about me: I am a 23-year-old male who just got back from studying overseas. I am a clean homebody, considerate and easy to live with—non-smoker, no pets, and hardly any visitors.

Here's what I'm looking for:

  • 📍 San Jose or the surrounding areas (I'm happy to commute by car)
  • 💰 Budget: Up to $1,300/month
  • 🚗 Parking is a must since I have a car
  • 🏠 Open to living with roommates
  • 🧺 In-unit washer and dryer preferred

If you know of any available rooms, apartments, or houses that might be a good fit, I'd really appreciate it if you could reach out. Please DM me here first for my contact information. I primarily use Discord, email, and phone, and I don't have Instagram.

Thanks so much! I appreciate any leads, referrals, or recommendations.

Anyone have experience living at Kennedy Hall Apartments near SJSU?

Hey everyone,

Does anyone have experience living at Kennedy Hall Apartments (555 S. 10th St.) or know someone who has?

I'm curious about what it's actually like living there. How was your overall experience? How's the management and maintenance? Is the area generally safe, especially walking to and from SJSU? Any issues with noise, parking, bugs, or anything else worth knowing?

Would you recommend living there, or are there any red flags I should be aware of?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a great housemate to share a spacious 2-bed, 2-bath apartment close to SJSU. The official lease starts August 1, 2026, but you’re welcome to start moving your things in early!

You’ll get your own private bedroom + private bathroom on a standard 12-month lease.

  • 31-year-old professional male, working from office in Mountain View
  • Chill, easygoing, and respectful of boundaries
  • Non-smoker 🚭 & no pets (don't mind if you have pets)

  • My golden rule: Respect each other’s space and routines, and we’ll get along perfectly! I won’t be in your hair, and I appreciate the same courtesy.

✨ The Vibe We’re Going For

  • Chill & Quiet: This is a peaceful sanctuary, not a party house. Minimal visitors preferred.
  • Respectful: Mindful of noise levels and strong, open communication.
  • Live & Let Live: Mature, drama-free coexistence. We handle shared living like adults!

🏠 Awesome Apartment Features

  • Total Climate Control: Central AC & heating to keep it comfy year-round ❄️🔥
  • Laundry Made Easy: In-unit washer & dryer in a dedicated laundry room (no more laundromats!) 🧺
  • Bright & Airy: Tons of natural light throughout the space ☀️
  • Parking Included: Two garage spaces included (one with EV charging!) 🚗⚡

📍 Walkable & Close To Everything

  • ~2 min to West CA Gym 🏋️
  • ~3 min to Cardenas Grocery 🛒
  • ~12 min to San Pedro Square 🍻
  • ~14 min to San Jose State University (SJSU) 🎓
  • Strolling distance to Japantown, plus tons of amazing restaurants and bars 🍜
  • Short drive to: Target, Trader Joe’s, Costco, and the CA-87 / I-280 intersection 🚗

💰 The Numbers (Rent & Utilities)

  • Total Rent: $3,200/month (Includes HOA, water, gas, and insurance)
    • My share (Master Bedroom): $1,650/month
    • Your share (Private Room + Bath): $1,550/month
  • Deposit: 1 month’s rent (split proportionally based on room share)
  • Utilities (Split 50/50):
    • Electricity: ~$100/month total
    • Internet: $75/month total

📩 Let’s Connect! If this sounds like a good fit, DM me with a little bit about yourself, your typical schedule, and any questions you have. Here are some pics of the unit

Have a great day, and hope to find an awesome new housemate! 🙌

Housing CVB f2026 room swap

Hi! I'm a female student in CVB this fall! I am in a 4 bed room single, and I'm looking to potentially swap w someone in CVA/CVB who is also in a single room as well. One of my main reasons for swapping is that I'm not a fan of heights and would prefer a room on the lower levels (like floors 3-5 would be perfect) but if interested/ applicable/ for more details please DM me!

I’m moving into a svp triple in less than a month. To any one who knows, what’s the process like. Also are air fryers allowed?
