Please do not submit posts soliciting participation in studies, job advertisements, your college MineCraft server (I'm looking at you u/TheQuadMC), or other spammy posts, UNLESS it is specifically for SCU. As a rule of thumb, if you are posting it in more than one subreddit, its a no. If you are curious whether a post is allowed, please submit a ModMail ticket. Thanks!

Hi all! I wrote a paper with advice for incoming/current COEN and CS CAS students while I was a senior COEN at SCU last year.
Paper linked here: https://jrandleman.github.io/doc/CoenAdvice.pdf
Some background on myself, I was the lead engineering peer advisor and president of Tau Beta Pi (the engineering honor society), both of which regularly interface with new folks seeking advice. As such, I thought I'd compile it all in a paper while such was fresh in my mind. Designed as a paper I wish I could've read as a Freshman, I hope it brings value to folks :)
Please also keep in mind this is 100% my own personal perspective, and that many others have found great success in the program(s) by following a completely different path. This is just what worked for me, and hence I thought I'd share.
I'm also currently a Master's COEN student at SCU, so feel free to reach me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) if you have any questions!
Last note: I've marked the flair as "listing" given this could be construed as listing advice 🤷

How high do the beds at SCU dorms go, and do you need a stool or something at max height? Will probably be at Campisi or San Fillipo.

I'm a high schooler considering applying, and one of my major factors when looking at schools is if there's things to do and be able to live life outside of campus (i.e. a varied restaurant/shopping strip or something college town-like). Ideally walkable! I did a pre-college at LMU and I wasn't big on how students mostly hang out on campus. So I was curious what the situation was like at SCU. Let me know!

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming transfer student for the fall and currently looking for housing, either on campus, preferably in the Villas, or off campus.
I’m specifically looking for a place where I can have my own bedroom and private bathroom. I have allergies, so sharing a bedroom or bathroom could be difficult for me, but I’m completely fine with having suitemates or housemates.
Please reach out if you have a vacancy or know of any available housing options. Thank you!

Whats the best way to find friends? I'm a new grad that just moved down here for work. Im 21 22 this October and im looking for friends around my age. What are some events or tips for someone like me? Thanks.
P.s. i am aware this is more of a college sub reddit but most other sites ive checked is populated with people usually 10years older than me. So anything helps.

I just got off the waitlist for USC and was committed to SCU originally, and now I'm wondering if I should commit to USC, as it is ranked higher for electrical engineering (my major).
USC -> 0 merit, full pay (92k/yr) 11th on US News Good reputation Nationwide
SCU -> 1/2 Tuition merit (62k/yr), not ranked best for engineering due to not having big grad school, which is half the ranking. 23rd in the US for teaching
Goal is a master/Phd once I find what I enjoy

The registration appointment for Fall 2026 is coming up and I’m currently researching all the classes with their prerequisites—why does it seem like the very few classes available happen to either overlap with another class time or require another class that overlaps?
It feels almost impossible to make a schedule of 12 units to be full-time. If anyone’s already in the program full-time, any advice would be much appreciated!!

I want to sublease between those dates. Budget $2000 but preferably cheaper. Have a potential roommate if needed. Want it to be close to NVDA HQ.

Hello, still on the waitlist as a marketing major for the class of 2030. Has it closed yet? If not, is there anything I could do to boost my chances, or is it just the waiting game from here on out?
Is finding parking on campus an issue during the school year? Or do they limit the number of students who can buy a parking permit?

I'm an incoming freshman and haven't received my language placement results, and I took it more than 2 weeks ago.... Has anyone else faced this problem?? I don't want it to impact my classes eligibility at orientation

Hey everyone! I am an upcoming graduate student in mechanical engineering department. I am looking to connect with other students at the university. Please let me know if there is any WhatsApp group that I can join. I will also be grateful if you have any leads on housing near SCU. My budget is 1500 dollars.

I’m transferring in to Santa Clara next year as a sophomore and want to know what the best dorms would be for sophomore housing. Most social? Most sophomores? I know the Chances that they are full are high but someone let me know!!!

I am taking Math 12 equivalent at Foothill over the summer in order to accelerate but I noticed that my course doesn't cover:
Improper integrals
Parametric and polar curves
Arc length and surface area
Elementary differential equations (separation of variables, slope fields)
Will I be fine to go to Math 13 without these?

I'm an incoming freshman. I got a $25,500 merit scholarship for this upcoming year. Can I expect to renew this scholarship for the following year(s) if my grades are good? Also, if I keep my GPA really high, would it be possible for me to ask the financial aid office for a greater scholarship for my sophomore year?
