Is a 7 minute time good for someone who's only ran a mile twice?

So for reference my local grocery store is a mile away from me so I use it to track my progress. Ive only ran a full mile twice and I'm averaging about 7 minutes on my time.

I'm 30 and I just recently started trying to get into running more. I usually play DDR as my cardio and I just want some advice on how I can shave my time down to 6 minutes.

Advice for nose breathing where my ears aren't popping constantly?

When I run I usually breathe through my mouth. But a trainer of mine said that I should be breathing through my nose if I want more natrual energy. Ive noticed my energy levels boost up when I try running with my nose breathing. But my ears pop like crazy and it drives me nuts.

Any advice? When Im at home I wear a mask covering my nose/ears, and my mouth exposed, and it seems like its helped not pop at all. But it would look ridicolous if I ran with it out in public. Advice is needed.

Severe Thigh Pain when Running

I am training for a marathon. For the last three weeks, I’ve had severe inner thigh pain when running. Some mornings I wake up stiff and just hurt; not my norm. I took one week off to see if it would help. Today I attempted a 5K and had to stop.

I do a pre-run walk and stretch. I’m lost. I got new shoes last week ; thinking it would relieve the pain.

Help. Not sure if I need a chiropractor, doctor, or if I can even run a marathon 😭 I’m only 29, it feels too early to hurt this bad.

I need help with obstacles with my running journey

My age is bringing medical issues. My dad (god rest his soul) passed from heart failure.

Im an Army vet, im used to running but....

Now i have diabetes (so they say, and how its permanent ill never know but whatever) and my mouth gets really really dry when i exert myself. I want to run. But me and my wife recently moved to the middle of nowhere. We dont have a road. There is a road off the property, but its going to be full of rattle snakes.

I know it all sounds like an excuse but i dont wanna get bit or lass out stranded somewherre alone. I planned to take a walkie and a small gun for snakes but still.

TLDR i have developed diabetes that im trying to overcome and my land has no pavement. How should i go about getting back in shape. I cant stand being unable to move quickly on my feet. Id literally rather be dead.

Muscular pain in the right calf

Hey runners, I started to have a little pain in my right calf. It wasn’t to bad so I continued running the following weeks. Slowly and with a very comfortable pace since I’m trying to build myself up for longer distances. I have run multiple half marathons and I’m currently training for my first triathlon and full marathon in 3 months. It’s been 3 weeks since my last run and the muscular pain is just slowly feeling better. If I walk and stand a lot over the day then it feels worse than in the mornings. I’m pain free if I rest my calf and while swimming or cycling I don’t really feel anything bad around that area. Does anyone have a little solution for me? Thank you very much

I want to do more overnight oats as apart of my preworkout but its messing up my stomach, any alternatives?

Before I go on a morning run, I really like overnight oats. They're good. But for some reason I just have a lot of stomach issues after trying it. They seem to give me a lot of stamina, but I dont want to be puking after a run because my stomach is upset.

I've subsituted milk for almond milk, and my yogurt is greek yogurt, but idk if I should subsitute the yogurt or not. The recipie I use is a 1 banana, half a cup of oats, 1 tbl spoon chia seeds, 1 tbl spoon, honey, half cup of milk and half cup of yogurt.

Are there any other recipies I should try with these ingredients that might not make it so overwhelming on my stomach?

Anyone here actually use compression boots regularly?

I've been seeing compression boots everywhere lately, especially with runners. I'm curious if they're actually worth the investment or mostly just hype.

Have they made a noticeable difference in your recovery and do you find yourself using them regularly?

I'm thinking about picking up a pair and have been looking at a few options like hyperice, Cotsco and frostfit. But I'd love to hear some honest experiences before spending the money on this

Runner down!

I've gone hundreds of miles over the last few years, never fallen once. However yesterday I took a spill on some train tracks, my elbow took the most on that fall. Then, today I fell AGAIN this time I did it.. I fell right on my knee and went about a mile more before the adrenaline wore off and I had to have my fiancée come get me. I can barely bend it without pain, walking is hard and for the first time ever I took the elevator to my office!

Okay enough complaining, here's what I am thankful for - I am thankful for my ability to run, I'm thankful I didn't hit my head, I am thankful that my work allows me to wear shorts and I can just rest for a few hours, I am thankful that I have good health insurance and I can go get it x rayed if it comes to that, and I am thankful that my fiancee was available to come get me.

I'll be back better than ever but for now, I'll call it a deload

desperate shin splint help!!

I have been running/playing sports for 10 years and have never been able to shake my shin splint pain. I just ran my first marathon and the shin pain made it super hard to train. I have seen a doctor and they confirmed there was no stress fracture. I have gotten fitted for shoes, foam rolled, iced, and changed form. I only run 3 days a week per my doctors advice. I have taken weeks off and have tried gradually starting back up but the pain is just relentless. They are persistent and come back after every single run. It is in both my shins on the inner and front areas. I am now training for my second marathon and am really trying to get to the bottom of this! Please help!!

Running etiquette

Hi team. Would appreciate your advice on this one. I (F47) was on a long run this morning slow steady pace when I came upon another runner (M around my age) who was marginally slower but seemed to have a tight calf/ cramp, he was still running but with noticeable limp. As I came up alongside I said hi then asked are you ok?
And he yelled at me “ are you having a go at me!?” And something else but I was so taken back I didn’t hear it. He then said I have to stop now because of you and again yelled at me. Thanks a lot you’ve ruined my run.
My intentions were help not hinder and I did pause/ check to ensure he didn’t have a visual disability or other issue. I had extra gels so was going to offer one and possibly even have a joke between us both out there as middle aged runners.
I spent the next 5 kms overthinking it. I meant no insult.
Was I in the wrong - should I have said nothing?

Just getting back into running

In my 40th year and decided it was time to get back in shape and start running. I am slow but a little work at a time will pay off. I went a little over board and through a points system at work I was able to get myself a garmin forerunner 970 more powerful than I need but a big step up from my old 245 from years back.

Any suggestions for getting going would be appreciated.

Stomach problems after running

I’ve been running for around 11 months and over the past month I’ve been having stomach distress after every run whether short or long. It’s like I need to poop or trapped gas. I sometimes feel nauseous. I use Puresport gels which I’ve used previously and had no issues, I’ve tried having and not having energy drinks so see if that was the issue. I’ve got a half marathon in the middle of September, anyone got any suggestions? Thank you!

Is eating too much spinach bad for you?

I genuinely love eating spinach. My favorite foods are asparagus, as well as brussel sprouts. I love all 3 of them as much.

Can eating too much of these be bad for me even if I rotate between the 3?

What other foods are good for me despite beets/spinach/asparagus/brussel sprouts?

How do I build 12km up to 16km (9.94mi) in 5 weeks

Hi everyone. So yesterday I ran 12km (7.45mi) so I know I can get that mileage. My race is in 7 weeks but the last 2 weeks will be taper weeks where I won't run much mileage. How do I build up to race day safely? I was thinking of doing the long runs on a Saturday but then the following week Tuesday is a recovery run and potentially Thursday as well. How do I not over do it but still be ready for race day? I also need to incorporate hills into training where I run up and down hills. I have a 1.6km (1mi) close to home which I'll be using for training. I was thinking of running to the top and walk/run down again. If I can do that 4 times that would be amazing training. Maybe I can start with 2 times then build up? Thanks for any ideas.

Weight is 106kg 233lbs

I need to be careful with my knees as I was out of running due to knee injury a few times

I'm doing strength excercises to improve that

Quick strength training tip for runners

Post image
86 Upvotes

When doing lower body exercises as a runner like Bulgarian squats, RDL’s or single leg exercises I recommend doing them without shoes because this helps with stability by forcing you to use muscles that you don’t normally use. And these muscles are the ones that prevent injury and help your run more efficiently by feeling more stable when you run. When we wear shoes they usually have different bases and so some they don’t force us to use those muscles.

This is what I found to have helped me the most let me know if you found it to be the same for you or if you have a different opinion because I’d love to know if there is maybe another opinion about this that could be better then myn.

Hope this helps some athletes !

How to mentally deal with an injury?

2 nights ago I was biking as part to supplement my training, lost my balance and fell, dislocating my left shoulder in the process. Having dealt with previous dislocations on my right shoulder i popped it back in and went to an orthopedist the next day to get some imaging. Turns out i fractured my humerus and wont be able to run for at least two months as of right now.

I had a couple of races lined up soon as part of marathon training for november but it seems its shot for now. The question is, how to mentally deal with the fact that I won’t be able to go back to running anytime soon. Has anyone had a similar experience with an injury like this?
