Tiny whiteheads from soolantra - purge or incompatible?

I've seen sooo many posts on the die-off but usually they involve lots of red nodes and inflammation. Has anyone experienced tiny whiteheads?

Confused about Doxycycline

Hiya! Happy to be joining this Sub as I have really appreciated the support provided here. I have always struggled with acne since I was a teenager but I’m now in my late 40’s and have apparently developed Type 2 Rosacea (yay Perimenopause!). I was recently prescribed Doxycycline 100 mg, once daily and Metrogel 0.75%, twice daily. The dermatologist I saw told me that 100 mg would be considered an anti-inflammatory dose of the medication rather than antibiotic dose when I expressed concern about taking an antibiotic. I am just really confused because many of the other websites and even research studies I’ve read online cite that 100 mg of Doxycycline would be considered antibiotic dose. The dr said not to be concerned because it would only be taken for 3 months, but again I worry about rebound effects when stopping and concern this could alter the microbiome. I wonder if others have any experience with this or may have had similar recommendations from their Dermatologist? I know it may sound funny, but I decided to only take 1/2 pill at 50 mg a day for now until I figure this all out.

Anyone in the Philippines here dealing with rosacea and using skinoren 15%?

I am dealing with rosacea for about 3 years now and the redness is on and off. At first, I was prescribed some topical steroid as they're figuringout if it's rosacea or not. I've been to 2 dermatologist already and the most recent one confirmed I have rosacea.

I was prescribed doxycycline and azaleic acid 15%. I have GERD so I couldn't take the doxycycline.

Now my problem is the azaleic acid 15% (Skinoren). Eversince I use it (1 week) it feels like my rosacea is getting worse. My face feels itchy, burning, and became more sensitive.

I've read in other forums and reviews (which are mostly in other countries )that it gets worse before it gets better but I'd like to know if anyone here in the Philippines experienced the same and that it "actually" gets better. Since weather and other stuff may also be affecting it.

Anyone else’s biggest trigger skincare and makeup?

I have crazy sensitive skin as of a year ago, and used to be a skincare / makeup enthusiast.

My rosacea is pretty much under control as long as I don’t use anything on face except LRP toleraine cream, Avene Cicalfate, and Trader Joe’s mineral SPF. The SPF is matte and makes me skin look dull and flat. I honestly hate it.

I can’t wear any skin tint, foundation, or concealer products and get flairs from trying to incorporate them. Itching, burning, bumps, etc that can last for weeks

I cannot exfoliate or use any actives, including AA

I know these are first world problems, and a lot of people on this sub have it worse. Just venting and bummed out. Feels like I’m the only one sometimes 🥲

Thinking of stopping doxy

Im on around day 10 of doxy but i feel like even tho my skin looks a bit better my skin is starting to itch quite badly. I put cerave oil control moisturizer and it instantly burned and flared.

Idk if i should just stop doxy or find a moisturizer that works.

Ive had very little success with many moisturizers in the past. I always somehow wake up with more bumps and acne. I cant sleep because of this.

Ive been diagnosed with rosacea.

Skincare diagnosed with rosacea type 2 + acne. questions about ivermectin 0.5% and what helped you? Spoiler

hi, im new here and im hoping to get some advice from people who have experience with rosacea.

i recently went to a facial ive been dealing with persistent breakouts since summer started. she told me I likely have papulopastular rosacea (type 2 rosacea) plus some acne. she also recommended that I get tested for H.Pylori because she thinks there could potentially be a connection with my skin.

she recommended me
soolantra (ivermectin 1%) and eidel

the problem is that I live in the US and I don’t have insurance, so Soolantra seems extremely expensive. my sister is coming from kazakhstan in about a month, so I might be able to get it there, but im trying to figure out what I can do in the meantime.

ive seen a lot of people talking about using ivermectin 0.5% from walmart because its much cheaper. anyone who tried this, did it help?

what helped your papulopustular rosacea the most?

i would really appreciate any experiences or advice!

I'm visiting family in Florida and it is very hot. And the place that I was staying with in-laws they do not want to turn the air conditioning up. My rosacea pustules have been flaring really bad it's getting painful. Is there anything you guys who live down here do to try to keep that at bay?

ETR Ducray Sensinol 400ml - review as face moisturiser for neurogenic rosacea Spoiler

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello all,

I posted this earlier in Euro Skincare but duplicating here so that it can be seen by the rosacea community as well, because struggle to find moisturiser for this condition is real.

No guarantee this will work for everyone at all of course, but I think it will for some like it did for me!

I have neurogenic rosacea with flushing, which means my skin overreacts to even the most innocent ingredients and stimuli. For years I've had great success with Avène's Tolerance Hydra range and a handful of other products, but most skincare hurts and burns and is off limits. But I was getting tired of paying Avène prices for 40ml of face cream every month. My goal was to find something in a body-sized bottle that I could happily use on my face - enter Ducray Sensinol!

The ingredients are:

Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Laureth-9, 1,2-Hexanediol, 4-Butylcyclohexanol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Caprylyl Glycol, Carbomer, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Pentylene Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Sorbitan Stearate, Tropolone.

As you can see, there's almost nothing in here. Nothing exciting, anyway which for me is a good thing.

I expected a thin, watery lotion, but that couldn't be further from the truth. "Lotion" is technically accurate, but it's surprisingly substantial. It's not quite a cream, yet it feels thick while remaining lightweight. The texture is difficult to describe: there's a lot of density to it, and you can feel some resistance as you spread it across the skin. Then it seems to melt away almost completely.

I suspect the formula contains a very high percentage of glycerin (above standard 3-5%), which may explain this "density". The trade-off is that it leaves a slightly sticky sheen on the skin. Personally, I don't mind it, but oilier skin types may prefer it as a night cream. Dry or dehydrated skin, on the other hand, will probably love it.

The hydration is where this product really delivers. After a few days of use, my skin genuinely felt like it had finally had a drink of water. It looked calmer, felt more comfortable, and seemed less stressed overall.

I'm also prone to clogged pores, but this causes me no issues at all, even when I apply it generously at night. The main emollient here is Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, an ingredient my skin loves and one that is generally considered quite friendly for acne-prone skin.

There are also a couple of interesting ingredients that may be doing some heavy lifting for sensitive, reactive skin:

Laureth-9 – primarily an emulsifier, but also used for its anti-itch properties.

4-Butylcyclohexanol – a soothing ingredient that helps reduce the skin's sensory response to irritation. It works by calming TRPV1 receptors, sometimes called the skin's "heat and sting" receptors, which are often overactive in conditions such as rosacea and sensitive skin. Until relatively recently, this ingredient was best known from Eucerin's UltraSensitive range. I believe it was patented by Eucerin, but the patent recently expired and it started to appear in more products.

If you're currently using Eucerin UltraSensitive for Oily and Combination Skin, I'd definitely recommend giving Sensinol a try. The formulas aren't identical, but they feel surprisingly similar in use, and Sensinol offers much better value per millilitre.

Overall, this is a very boring moisturiser—and I mean that as a compliment. It's simple, effective, and doesn't try to do too much. It won't be for everyone, but if your skin is hypersensitive like mine, if "boring skincare" is your happy place, or if you're dealing with temporary irritation or barrier damage, it's well worth exploring. I also think it would make an excellent after-sun treatment for the body.

Personally, I'm over the moon I no longer have to spend £16+ for Avene Tolerance or Eucerin UltraSensitive creams (although I love them too and will keep them in occasional rotation).

This comes in 400ml for around £20 ⭐️

Hope this helps someone else out there 🙏

Newbie help

Hi gang. Newly diagnosed here 👋🏻

For years I’ve thought I just had acne prone skin so was using quite harsh cleansers and serums on my skin. The doctor has just put me on soolantra (ivermectin) to see if that helps but I need to revisit my general skincare and try to strip it back. The internet is awash (scuse the pun) with suggestions but I want to hear from actual people.

I’ve switched to a cerave hydrating wash and am currently using Avene spray, and the sunscreen from the Ordinary. That’s all at the moment. What moisturisers do people recommend as I’m aware I’ll need it when the weather cools! I’m based in the UK so will only be able to access products here.

I can have quite oily zones so have never liked anything heavy, and the sunscreen from the Ordinary is the only one I’ve tried that I can tolerate the feel of (previously tried various La Roche Posay and Clinique but hated the feel- just felt greasy/claggy).

Many thanks in advance if you’re able to share 💕

Support Derm just Prescribed Doxycycline

I am to start Doxycycline in a few days and take it for 2 months for Rosacea. She is also concerned I have Lupus & not Rosacea but we’re treating this First (I am hoping she is just thinking some Pcos symptoms are lupus idk I don’t need that) but I have been FREAKING out tbh because a quick search of the medication online is definitely not great! So many scary side effects & some people saying it altered their life in a bad way? Is this common? I just want help from those who have actually been on it atp because it’s making me scared to try it. I am hoping to get some advice from ppl who have actually been on it so I don’t feel as freaked out rn. The pain & burning from the Rosacea is so unbearable I want to give this a shot but now I am getting freaked lol

Skincare If your rosacea is stable, how do you exfoliate?

TLDR: My rosacea is now stable after a couple years, I am using tretinoin 3x a week, and feel like I need to incorporate 1-2x weekly exfoliation, but wondering how and what to use.

Long: My rosacea has been stable (basically gone) for almost a year and I've been able to tolerate tretinoin again for nearly as long. I use tretinoin 3 times a week, and azelaic acid every day in the AM, but especially with this very humid sweaty summer we're having and my increased exercise level (getting back in shape!) my skin is expressing a need for more specific exfoliation.

I don't tolerate benzoyl peroxide (gives me contact dermatitis) and salicycylic acid (BHA) was drying for me even before rosacea, so exploring more AHAs/PHAs/LHAs but wondering if anyone here has any specific ones they'd recommend, what method (toner vs pads vs serum vs cleanser) and MOST IMPORTANTLY products.

We all know finding products for rosacea safe skin can be really hard so this sub is one of the only places I would trust to ask for recommendations for an actual specific product for exfoliation.

Thanks!!

Support Scared to go on antibiotics (again) for potential type 2 rosacea

I am a 27F that has had acne pretty much since the age of 12. I have been on everything from oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics, creams, roaccutane, etc etc. I have had good years and bad years when it comes to my skin, but my latest diagnosis from a NHS dermatologist is rosacea type 2. I have been prescribed soolantra cream and oral antibiotics (doxycycline). I am feeling very sceptical about everything because I’ve seen so many doctors and been on so many different things over the years. I have only recently come off of a 3month course of lymecycline, which helped my skin during the course but made me flare up straight after. I’m scared to go on a new course of antibiotics when I read a lot about disrupting the gut and fungal acne and the like… I guess I am looking for any similar experiences or success stories. Thank you.

Skincare Be honest: Has Sulfur soap helped you in any way?

I've had the Joesoef soap bar on my Amazon Wishlist forever. Where I'm at is having a cooldown in the weather after just having two back-to-back heatwaves. This is probably my chance to order the soap without it melting in transit. The Joesoef brand is $13 though and that's expensive for a bar of soap, in my personal opinion. So, before I buy it, I am curious if it's worth it? What's your experience with it? How long does it have to be used to be effective?

Is this demodex Spoiler

Hi all, what does this look like to you? I have a bit of itching as well I’ve been reading about demodex but not sure if this is that. Any thought? It’s not super visible from afar but my skin has visible texture up close. It’s only on my cheek area. My eyebrows look normal but itch a little. I’ve had issues with fungus (tinea versicolor) on my face before but not sure if this is that. Would love your thoughts

Reaction between Finacea (Azelaic Acid 15%) and sunscreen

Like the title says, I noticed when I wear Finacea with the Skin Aqua UV Gel sunscreen I get a very intense burning sensation on my face and I’d like opinions on what could be the cause.

I’ve already done the work of slowly incorporating Finacea into my routine, and am at the point where I can use it twice a day, every day with no problems! But whenever I try to layer it with that particular sunscreen, whether I use a barrier (like a serum or moisturizer) or not, there is still intense irritation.

I should also point out that I’ve tried other sunscreens (the Ordinary and Trader Joes) with Finacea and have had no issues, and I’ve worn Skin Aqua UV Gel on its own with no issues. But it seems like there is some ingredient interaction when the two come together, which I’m trying to figure out so I can avoid it in the future, or try to come up with a work-around because that unfortunately is my absolute favourite sunscreen that I’ve tried.

Any advice?

Do you avoid Phenoxyethanol in skincare with rosacea, ocular rosacea/mgd/ded?

I have reacted to products with **Phenoxyethanol in them. (I have also read that its really bad for our meiobian glands & neurogenic & etr rosacea which i have.) i have removed all skin & hair care products that contain this head to toe and my eyes aren’t constantly watering all day and my face feels better - not so much burning feeling all the time, not cured by any means but i do notice a difference. Anyone else? Or is this a placebo effect with my brain!**

Doxycycline timeline? (40mg) Spoiler

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi guys, started taking doxycycline exactly 2 weeks ago (40 mg a day). I’m not noticing much improvement if any at all. My skin still feels itchy a lot of the time. Initially this started a few months ago at the end of March as what looked like a small rash. Went to the dermatologist and began treating it as eczema. Recently started treating it as Rosacea hence the switch to doxy. Was just curious when you started seeing results/relief? Never really had many issues with my skin before this so this is kind of driving me crazy. Thanks for any insight!

Skincare Experience with the Prequel Redness Reform Serum

Type 1 verging into Type 2 rosacea and just bought the sulphur cleanser and serum duo from Prequel. The cleanser seems great, but the serum was excruciating.

I’ve never had such a strong reaction to skincare, and I tolerate retinols/acids just fine. I stopped using any actives for about 3 weeks so I could narrow things down and find things that worked for my rosacea specifically. The serum burned so severely and persisted for 10 minutes before I had to rinse off.

I tried using the sulphur cleanser and then the serum the first time, burned. Waited a few days. Then last night I tried my regular cerave hydrating face wash and then the serum, major burn. I used the sulphur cleanser again tonight with no issues and no burning at all.

I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with this product? I compared ingredients in all of my other skincare and the only unique one is arnica. Wondering if that may be my issue.

Recently diagnosed

I was diagnosed about a month ago after trying a new Moisturiser that completely damaged my skin barrier and brought on Rosacea (that was 6 weeks ago now). Ironically I was trying a new Moisturiser to save money, but this has made me spend way more.

I was diagnosed but the derm gave me antibiotics and sent me on my way without any information. I then had my euro summer trip booked and went overseas while taking the meds, they gave me shit side effects but worked to reduce the constant burning sensation. I ended up having to stop taking them after 6 days though.

I went to a new derm yesterday who told me I have type 1 and type 2 rosacea. She gave me a prescription for Soolantra 1% cream which ill get in the next few days. She also recommended i get the La Posay toleriane cleanser and moisturiser, but they both contain niacinamide which my face no longer likes. Ive been using Avene Tolerance control soothing skin recovery cream for the last month as my moisturiser as that hasn't caused any burning sensation and has helped my skin from when I initially damaged it to now. It was soooo dry because I literally couldn't even handle water when it first happened. Now my routine is wet my face with lukewarm water, pat dry and put the recovery cream on morning and night.

Im thinking about trying the Avene Tolerance Extremely Gentle Cleanser, but im quite nervous to bring in a new product.

Im sad as my skin used to be nice without any issues and now I have this condition 😭

What do you use for cleanser and moisturiser?

And how did you go grieving what your skin was like before the diagnosis?

TIA x

Horse paste ???? Help

I’m UK based and recently went to the states so thought while I was there let me get some horse paste and trial it. I got the one you see all over reddit, the apple flavoured one.

I used UK prescribed ivermectin before but it made my skin the worse it’s ever been and my rosacea was not that bad before it. I had to go on doxy to get back to normal and now left with what feels like skin that needs skincare. I dont know if I was party to blame as I would smoothering it on my face then would go out in the sun the first time I trialed it.

I wanted to know how to apply this. I’m going to do it on a test patch first but any advice to those who have successfully used it would be amazing.

Morning or night?
If morning, before or after spf?
Do I avoid sun?
Only apply on red areas? Bumps?

I have 0 skincare other than washing my face with water and spf. So pls feel free to explain like i’m a 5 year old
