My neighbor gets grumpy when people mess with her rocks in her park strip. So I decided to make something cool that also probably annoys her. My son walked out and said “oh, she’s gonna be mad about that!”

She actually loved it and so did a bunch of other neighbors walking by. Chaotic good!

I’ve been feeling lately like life is a bunch of balancing plates. I’ve got this pressure to keep them up but they are on a knife’s edge. It always makes me feel better to express it in nature

"Guillotine"

Hanging around Barry Andrew Ouimet you never quite know what kinda stones you will run into. Found this beautiful hunk of a stone Barry procured from a job site on Day 1 of NEBG to steady myself into place for the rest of the weekend. The stone reminds of the blade of a guillotine, fairly simple balance in ways but its massive weight and funky shape did make for a fun breakfast tease.

"Collosus"

The hardest thing for me to photograph in rock balancing recently has simply been scale. It is so hard for me to show the immense amount of mass some of these single stone balances are. Such as this one here I have dubbed "Collosus" down at MinerDock from NEBG2026. This large piece of stone is quite heavy and a sail in the wind, around 3 feet tall by itself a piece of the broken concretion flagstone found at the edge of the dock.

"Terra"

An opportunity came to me recently to have my work displayed in a gallery in my hometown of Waynesboro, VA. I had been chosen to represent a piece in conjunction with other artists to represent the theme of landscapes. The Landscapes - Art Exhibition at Gallery 518 is located in the back half of The Russell Museum . This building is teeming with rich history and vibrant art. The opening of the showing will be on July 18th, from 4pm to 7pm they will have an artist reception where everyone is invited freely to enter the space, talk with the artists personally, and have amazing food. Wanted to capture a balance standing within the small meadow of flowers beneath the bridge at the Hook. I appreciate the easy going nature of this particular balance. One that doesn't need to scream "look at me" but just lives contently, simply, within it's element.

"Transient"

My first balance at Bearsville was up only long enough for one picture about 15 seconds before a wind gust knocked it over. Reminding me to always have the camera at the ready to capture it as soon as possible. Too bad I forgot my tripod for this trip so no videos of this one being put together. The way that time seems to stand still in moments like this, is one of the reasons I keep at it. Balancing alongside my friends Mark and Barry with Meagan in the distance swinging in the hammock, life doesn't get much better than this, even when you dont get the photo you envisioned it all seems so worth it.

"Bearsville Genie"

A more detailed shot of the "Bearsville Genie". The sphere on the right on the bottom is about 35 lbs and the counter balance bar is around 18 inches, a good 25 to 30 lbs I would estimate. Was a hunk of a sphere to one hand it into position while holding it in place. I really enjoyed the flow that came out of me for this piece, didnt think to long about the execution adter the design started to take shape. The inspiration all came more or less from that longer cantilever and finding some way to adjust it to where I could see the profile the way I envisioned.

"Bearsville Genie"

I had quite a bit of fun pushing the limits of myself with the towers of a Bearsville genie lamp. New location unlocked for future NEBG thanks to a heads up from Mark Lorant to this location with some originals of his in the background. I enjoyed the way the reflections were hitting his balances and tried my best to mimic that reflecting feeling within the pattern of the two towers of the lamp.

"Stasis"

Taking advantage of the beautiful day, low wind, and warm waters, I am gearing up for another NEBG (NorthEastern Balancers Gathering) starting back up this coming weekend June 26-29 in New York. Figured I'd knock off some of the dust and balance in my local VA downstream. I find a certain comfort in making three stones stand upright showing their gorgeous profile. The search for new amazing stones never stops for me, and with the drought we've had I had more opportunity to explore further up the river for uncovered beauties. The bottom stone of this balance was just as exciting to me to show as the topper, in perfect stasis.

Day 165/365 - "Railway Slag"

Occasionally near the railroads you can find bits of iron slag that have fallen off from the bottoms of the cars. It is magnetic and through intense heat and over time the pieces break off into unique shapes this was my first play with them before I made the unity piece exploring the funky shapes. They are hard to handle as they are quite rough on the hands but offer such a unique profile to other stones. Created on 7.24.24

"Murder Ballad"

An unreleased throwback to fun times of the past doing some live collaborative work with Paul Tucker known as Bristol of NY accompanying music and ambience with my live balancing during Mid Mountain Festival.
